Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I just completed a couple of domestic legs and the headphones were the same ones as in economy, those that you pick up from the bin at the gate except in business they were pre-placed in the seatback pocket. The trans-Tasman flights offered the better headphones that you get on longer international flights though.
Seems like a cost reduction.

Over the last decade, Qantas have offerred three styles of premium headsets.

The silver ear cup ones which do indeed have active noise cancelling

The black ear cup ones which have no active noise cancelliing.

More recently the black ear pad ones (no cups) which if they have active noise cancelling it is not very effective.

This was an afternoon refreshment from early August on an ADL-SYD. Roasted red capsicum stuffed with spiced lamb mince and served with wilted spinach and tzatziki. If this has been reported already then apologies as I haven't browsed this thread for a while, since early August in fact!

I was VERY impressed this meal, even more so that it was for the afternoon [-]cost reduction[/-] light refreshment service. The other choices were soup and a cheese plate.

I'd have no issue with this one receiving a promotion to the dinner rotation.

That looks impressive.

quick poll: Who prefers the change for PDB from a choice of water and some sort of juice to water - still or sparkling?
I do not like the change myself.

I find both woefully inadequate. American Airlines has this right, if the crew does as they should. And if on AA you can get a beer/wine/simple long drink, then Qantas should be ashamed to only offer water.

It can be a bit tricky, but I find that on AA and similar airlines, there seems to be a lot more time for boarding, which allows the crew to offer an enhanced beverage service before takeoff. Also, in the flight attendants aren't required to check boarding passes, which means that there is an extra pair of hands at the front to assist (assuming there is two crew at the front).

Given boarding in Australia is generally quite quick, and one crew is dedicated to checking boarding passes, it would not be practical to offer a full beverage service to the passengers in J. Also, I know on QF that once boarding has commenced, any galley preparation needs to be ceased. This means that the crew should be focused on their safety duties (apart from delivering the drinks once able to) therefore reducing the time available to delivering anything more than a pre-poured drink.

I also know that QF have different liquor licensing agreements in varying states and therefore are unable to offer alcoholic beverages before takeoff on a domestic sector. This may different from other Australian airlines, however QF are unable to.

.............

In terms of headphones available in the business class cabin. On most sectors, it'll be the same kind of headphone for both economy and business class. On certain flights to Perth (from east coast capital cities), an enhanced black headphone (two-pin) will be offered in J Class. On certain international flights, the three-pin noise cancelling headphones will be offered.

With the introduction of the new suites on the A330. All domestic sectors on the A330 regardless of length will have the black two pin over ear headphones (not active noise cancellation). This means that on a SYD-MEL sector operated by A332 will have over-ear black headphones, but the B737 will have normal, simplified headphones. The reason being that the upgraded headphone will accompany the upgraded business class suite.

So basically, in terms of domestic flying, the headphones will be the same through the whole aircraft, the simple small headphones, unless flying on A332, or east coast capitals to Perth where it'll be the larger black over ear ones. International will always have some form of upgraded headphone.

VA currently offer Champagne/Sparkling as a pre departure option on Coast to Coast services at least (and QF did also a long time ago), so it is therefore still possible in Australia on domestic services. It is purely cost cutting why QF does not offer Sparkling (or anything except water) pre departure now.

QF1546 CBR-bne departure 11:35 so a lunchtime flight. Options were the ubiquitous prawn salad, beef and cheese toasted sandwich and soup. Dessert a piece of Koko Black chocolate. Lovely FA and service. I have to admit I am really tired of noodles, quinoa and barley being called salads. What is wrong with lettuce, tomato and cucumber etc Anyway here's a picture although I am sure everyone knows this one

As far as I'm aware the crew have been told it's due to liquor licensing differences around Australia, despite VA being able to offer it, I'm guessing QF have some different licensing agreement/arrangement. On QFs version of coast to coast there will be an option other than water, and on breakfast flights I believe the juice is still offered.

QF had sparkling grape juice SYD-PER the other day; cranberry juice on the return breakfast flight. Better than water or water, but still inadequate in my opinion. Agree full service is probably over the top, but pre-poured wine or champagne not such a stretch.

qf961 bne-cbr depart 15:40 cheese box, cauliflower soup and lamb pie. Pie was good - light, flaky pastry and nice filling. CSM Umberto was amazing. Chatted to everyone as they boarded Y pax as well. Went out of his way to look after people the whole flight - he must have been exhausted.

QF649 CNS-BNE 15/9 12:55 departure

CSM Umberto was on this flight. (As above).

Choices were chicken / bacon toasted focaccia, lentil soup or a salad.

QF1734 (B717) MEL-BNE

REALLY downmarket effort on this one. Choices were the "Carrot and Thyme" soup and a "Korean Beef Salad".. had soup. The pretzel mix was already plated - I guess they had no bread loaded(?!). Wine was a non S+S Sauv Blanc

but really.. no bread with soup? Just seemed so ... downmarket20170917_121320.jpg

A+ for innovation for the pretzels and almonds!! (Probably opened two packets of those a Santos snacks) Even if the choices were sub standard!

"Carrot and Thyme"? Really, who comes up with those strange combinations... o_O

Can I say later flight had "Carrot and Coriander" soup (I did not try but sounds Thai and more reasonable). For the record whatever the hell I had it was bland

Yes, I'd agree, with the coriander it sounds like an Asian-style dish which makes more sense. Haha, but all these fanzy names they call it won't make a difference if the actual product turns out to be... bland! ;)o_O:rolleyes:

The weird thing was no mention was made of it. As in "Sorry we had no bread loaded so would you like some pretzel mix?" and it appeared all that all the trays had the plates loaded with the mix (prob done in the galley earlier) regardless of meal choice.

Just seemed odd. Think they could have either asked or at least apologised for the lack of bread.

so that added to the overly cheap feel to the whole thing
