Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Agree, not good enough. What the heck is this even- they should call it 'Selection of five assorted salad leaves with a sliver of salami' or something along these lines...
I can’t recall what Jessica called it (she had to double-check her list). It was fresh, but looked and felt like the leftovers from 3 salad bowls. Maybe 4 chickpeas, 2 jalapeño slices, random radish and tomato. Bizarre.

FWIW I’m going to raise it with the P1 team. I only ever fly this sector in J if I’m on an international flight in J or F before or after, and I’ve had a couple of free P1upgrades on this route. If I paid full fare J or even blew my points I’d be extremely upset. That’s got to be a less than $1 meal. The Y sandwiches would be more expensive.

Perhaps the appropriate forum is to send these pics direct to Neil Perry? I'd be surprised if he actually knows these dishes are going out in his name. I know he says he does spot checks (flying), but with his name on the manifest it would hardly be an accurate reflection.
Actually post it to Rockpool Facebook page

SYD-MEL, dinner flight on A330-200:
Don't like the A330 on international routes as I believe it's a way inferior product to A380 or the 747 even but was delighted to fly on it for this one hour leg. The entire crew was very fun but professional at the same time on this flight so exactly how I like it on Qantas. I was in 5A which was a window seat and still got selection between the two meal types, one was a hot lamb dish and the other a cold salad as per usual. The salad sounded really scary me and my partner agreed (I think it was green been with artichoke, yikes, I really wonder who comes up with weird ideas like that!) so happily chose the lamb. Lamb is always a bit of a hit and miss but this one was actually really nice while a bit too fatty (which is better than dried out on an airplane if you ask me!). It was served with some steamed broccoli (which had a healthy serving of pure stalks in there, again yikes, those parts usually go into the bin or a soup if I'm in the kitchen...) and other steamed veggie which had the effect that the entire lamb was sitting in a lake of veggie steam juice. I guess the latter is hard to avoid if you heat them both up in the same container as they do on domestic flights so what can you do. The lamb came with a super nice Aioli sauce which matched very nicely and enhanced the flavor of this meal. All in all not too shabby at all, I enjoyed it and the Aussie Shiraz that was served with it was a perfect match (sorry, don't remember the exact brand but it had an unusually colorful label on the bottle).

MEL-SYD, dinner flight on 737-800:
Compared to the inbound, the flight on a standard 737 was inevitably a bit of a downer in terms of equipment but it doesn't really matter than much for a short hop like this. Unfortunately, the crew was also not quite as chirpy and nice than on the flight in but still professional and friendly so good enough I'd say. The food however, oh dear, one of those disasters! We had the choice between a tomato soup and a "Sri Lankan Lamb curry" and we both opted for the latter. Boy, what a mistake! Usually, curries on airplanes are a pretty safe bet as the sauce keeps the dish and meat moist and juicy and I had some excellent examples of that on various airlines, including Qantas. In this case however, they've managed to obtain the very worst cuts of the oldest sheep to be found anywhere and it tasted exactly like that. Far from being 'lamb', we both left most of the dish untouched, so gross it all was. We saw that other people in the cabin did the same so we weren't some strange exception here. Wish I had selected the tomato soup which I continued to think of for the rest of this (rather hungry) evening!

That sounds absolutely revolting lol

Its broccolini, youre meant to eat the stalks otherwise there would pretty much be nothing left.

If that is the case, then hereby yet another vegetable ends up on my 'Do not touch' list, right alongside spinach, Bok Choy and Kale. Bah, bah, bah. I love normal Broccoli though :-)

It shouldnt be steamed within an inch of its life though. Much nicer lightly cooked in a stiry fry. QF are just using it in the wrong manner.

If what you are referring to is the green bean, artichoke, walnuts and feta the salad was delicious as the combination of texture, acid from the dressing, salt from the feta made a tasty salad that I have tried to replicate at home as well.

Oh dear, walnuts even- glad I didn't have it then as this is one of the few ingredients I am seriously allergic to :-0

Besides that, I could have really not imagined those ingredients to go together. But the way you describe it, I'd be intrigued enough to try (sans the Walnuts of course)!

OK @Berlin I'll bite(this is a food thread after all :) ) - why don't you like the A330 J suites on international? And if you hate them you'll hate the 787-9!

20171018_151212.jpg MEL-BNE Afternoon refreshment.
Just about everyone went the carrot soup(or cheese box) and seemed scared of the hot option. So I decided to be different and went for the "Pork Balls in tomato sauce" - really rissoles in a quite zesty sauce and it was really very nice.

Koko Black White Chocolate which was quite nice but the cabin was quite warm so it was a bit melty by the time I got to it.

So so Adelaide Hills Sauv Blanc

I had this discussion with my better half even just recently who loves the A330 product. It's not about the seat actually, more about the old airplanes themselves with the rattling doors and the toilets from yesteryear. I could very well imagine enjoying the 787, liked it on other airlines so I am full of excitement about it! :-)

Now back to topic...

Amusingly the 330's are younger than some of those 744's :D

you may find the 787 lav's newer but probably smaller if most of the other ones I've used are anything to go by (depending what options QF picked, but I can't imagine they'd have picked the super huge model! :) ).

anyhoo back to food :D

On average, aren't the A330's younger than the 747 fleet?

Hardly old.

QF 926 SYD-CNS Lunch

I had the lamb with aioli and steamed greens, which was tasty though not a recognisable cut of lamb to me.
There was a nice Teusner shiraz to accompany (The Wark Family, I believe).
Post meal a small tub of chocolate ice cream was offered.

I had the same lamb dish a few days ago for dinner on a SYD-DRW flight. Three very large, tender, non-fatty pieces of lamb. Aioli was a disappointing accompaniment (for me) - I'd have preferred good old mint sauce or jelly. Veggies were ok but seemed slightly pickled which did not go well with aioli.

Also encountered the excessive liquid but I had thought that was due to our meals being in the oven an extra 30 minutes as we had some severe turbulence which prevented the service from commencing (pilots got their meals in time, fortuitously..). But seems it is a feature of the dish.

Given the extra time in oven I was overall impressed with the meal.
