Just arrived this morning off QF 12 from LAX to SYD.
Had an excellent sleep in the bulkhead on the 380, and staff was just "good enough" to neither rave nor complain.
Food was a letdown.
For dinner I opted for "grilled salmon with fregola, braised lettuce, green peas, broccolini and gremolata."
The salmon was delivered as "Chilean sea bass" without mention of the switch, but I didn't really care. However, this was the most tasteless dish I've ever had on an airplane. The bass was cooked well but literally just a piece of bass with no flavouring -- not even salt. The fregola / pearl couscous required half my butter and the full sachet of salt and pepper and still didn't taste like much. The broccolini was cooked well but again, lacked flavour, and the braised lettuce was a bit grainy -- as if not washed properly, and if that was meant to be gremolata it was in, then I need not have gremolata again (it was not gremolata). On the plus side, I suppose it was healthy.
Served alongside Neil's sad salad and one piece of white sliced bread, and then a tiny tub of lemon sorbet for dessert. I was given a cheese plate after a split second of hesitation when I asked for it with the lemon sorbet, and it was decent.
Breakfast had a little flavour but nothing impressive. A ciabatta sandwich with egg, halloumi and a relatively tasty herbed tahini. Of note: neither the yogurt nor granola I indicated on the breakfast card was served. Perhaps they made an executive decision without further notice to me that I'd ordered enough having also asked for fruit and a muffin?
I slept through the mid-flight snack, if it was proactively offered, but didn't mind given I got a good sleep.
No proactive refills of wine or coffee at either meal respectively. Crew actually asked me if I was happy with the bottled water when I was served dinner or if I "still wanted a glass."
Good flight because I got a good rest. Otherwise, absolutely nothing remarkable, and the food was a letdown.
