Started off with a G&T then the arancini ball came around.

The bread offerings were the usual sourdough and what I thought they said was some sort of garlic loaf so I went with one of each. The sourdough (on the bottom) was standard however the garlic bread option was more like a lump of concrete masquerading as something edible. Served with a side of turbulence of course.

The chicken skewer was surprisingly moist and tasty, as long as you had a little of each element with every bite.

The beef was average which is exactly what I expected. Loved the mushroom butter once it melted and oozed all around.

Standard breakfast a couple of hours prior to landing.

Options Cauliflower soup, salon salad and chicken thighs in sauce. Opted for the salad, which was not too bad included some spuds and egg with a pesto sauce.

Belgian choc crunch for dessert, saved for miss Mort.

No wine as I was driving after, but was the Bethany Chardonnay and a Shiraz .

Options: cauliflower soup, Rueben sandwich and plowman’s plate. I had the ploughman’s but just picked at it and opted for no bread as it was a bit late, for a big meal, enjoyed though. Did not catch the wines as I was not drinking and neither was the gentleman next to me.

Kiki black milk choc for dessert, saved for Mrs Mort

They had the night lights on so the pic is a bit blue :)

There's starters on the menu, but we were advised by cabin crew that the starters weren't loaded! Thankfully I wasn't planning on having it anyway since I had eaten in the new Oneworld Lounge prior to this 10pm departure.

This Korean Braised beef was excellent

Not that it stopped you partaking in a cheeky sparkling! :D

not having a go.. just found it ironic given the comment. :)
To clarify, I’m usually around a 5 or 6pm service with multiple topups whereas this was a bit early so only one sparkling. I found the crew a bit lost as to what to do as usually they’re willingly topping up wine glasses. It wasn’t a criticism at all. One day we will cross paths and share a beverage Richard

Food and crew very good. Photocopied menu as the new menu cards has not been loaded.

Prawn salad, fish for main and passionfruit tart for desert (weakest element of the meal). Mushroom and tomatoes on toast for breakfast.

Food and service in the Hong Kong lounge really demonstrates how good Qantas could be with a bit of investment in their Melbourne and Sydney international lounges.

I noticed the dreaded arancini was not on my last flight... had smoked nuts instead which was a nice change. I always found the arancini to be lukewarm and soggy.

The first time I had it, it seemed ok. Most recent trip - yes, lukewarm...

Bannockburn becoming the new Humpy Doo based on the number of times it's written on that menu!

In all seriousness though, I reckon that's one of the better looking menus and always like the more regional style / inspired dishes on the way to places like India over the usual garb served on the US / UK routes. Plus the fact you actually get time appropriate meals (two mains) also makes more sense than something like the LHR-SIN leg where you're being served breakfast into SIN at ~5pm.

Great minds 😁

Neil must have got a bloody sharp deal on Bannockburn chicken - seems to appear on almost every international flight ex Australia. The new Humpty Doo Barramundi.
