lol. I’d assumed MrK was a kiwi and the OP was being very funny! Not if you were a Kiwi.![]()
I'd put my money on breakfast, even if 0830 is sort of just on the cusp.I'm travelling BNE to PER next month and have the choice of the 0830 vs the 1320 departure .
I'm interested in what the meal will be on the 0835 service.
Will it be breakfast - my experiences with a QF domestic have not been positive .
I enjoy the hot meals on domestic longer distance flights .
I would prefer the earlier flight but not if it was the classic breakfast offering.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Any readers got an idea of what the BNE-PER J bfast looks like ?I'd put my money on breakfast, even if 0830 is sort of just on the cusp.

As you alluded to, it probably won't be anything very different to what you would be used to seeing. Some egg dish, probably a cold dish (muesli), maybe a wild card like pancakes or some sort of toasted cafe sandwich.Any readers got an idea of what the BNE-PER J bfast looks like ?
Just did a search again - there is an older post on AFF of someone flying BNE-PER, but it's a 0900ish departure.I'm travelling BNE to PER next month and have the choice of the 0830 vs the 1320 departure .

Right now.
QF935 BNE-PER 0900 departure.
‘Lunch’ at 1030 EST/0830 WST. Three options. A standard chicken/veg, moussaka and a prosciutto salad.
I went for the latter as a lighter option at this time of day. Very acceptable. Again, not a bowl of NP Rabbit Food in sight.
Red was a Vic shiraz. Can’t recall from whom, but it was fine.

Oh! That’s the french toast I was raving about up-thread.QF512 SYD-BNE, 10 am departure.
Full J cabin - 3 options - frittata, french toast, or a French-style salad with vinaigrette dressing.
I was in 3C, Mr Katie (who has an Aussie accent and was born here in Qld) was in 3D.
The FA served 1AC then 1DF, 2AC and 2 DF, but then 3FD and 3CA.
3F declined a “schnack” as the FA was calling them - Mr Katie in 3D got the second-last French toast.
It was then up toe and Mr 3A to dexide who wanted the last French Toast or last Salad.
He let me choose, and I chose the French Toast.

I was surprised to see bacon, spinach and beans …
The “toast” was eggy on the bottom and bready on the top.
Overall a very confusing concoction.
Just pronouncing it in the accent of the destination.Fat fingered typo, should have been “big”.
When I ordered it the other day the flight attendant warned me that she thought it tasted too sweet...and she was right!the margarita was decent but too sweet for my taste
Tommy's got a sweet tooth then! When I ordered it the other day the flight attendant warned me that she thought it tasted too sweet...and she was right!
It was like someone put twice as much syrup in as you’d normally expect. I prefer my margaritas a little more fresh, less sugar. When I ordered it the other day the flight attendant warned me that she thought it tasted too sweet...and she was right!
From all the correspondence so far, I'm guessing that most of those flying out of Hobart in the early morning are totally unconcerned about the fact that there are often no meals on offer. Anyone from Qantas reading this will think it is OK to not offer meals in business class. I have always thought it was very cheeky on the part of Qantas. "Leaving too early for catering" is absolutely no excuse. Whether the passenger wants the meal or not isn't the point. If there is not going to be any meal service, we should be forewarned well ahead of the flight and an appropriate refund should be offered. After all, it is advertised as a full service flight.
I guess the 6am departures miss out as there is no catering at HBA. Never do those flights anymore so don’t notice but I’ve said a couple of times that I think the mid morning flights are over-catered!
Why would HBA have no catering? Seems odd... even VA would need to stock up on all their buy on board items at a minimum (not all of them can be maintained at ambient temperature overnight). Where does the QP get its catering from - some of that stuff in the lounge must be hot.I agree its pretty pathetic. What do they offer? Cheese and crackers?
If they actually wanted to (service $$ paying customers, not just saving money) I'm sure there would be some type of vacuum-packed meal not requiring refrigeration they could heat and offer.

But hey, that's not too early at all for catering to load up proper full meals. Get your act together, Hobart.......
So VA must be the same for their first flights of the morning (for J anyway)... so what do they serve? No commercial airline kitchen at HBA or Tasmania; the flights ex HBA (and the others, I think) get double catered out of wherever they came from but not the first flight out, where the plane sits at HBA overnight.
That would make some sense, but I still did wonder how all that extra catering fits in 737 galleys (keeping in mind that PER flights would have three choices of mains for J and carrying full catering for Y, i.e. the "tucker boxes").I did the HBA-PER-HBA a couple of times. I THINK for HBA-PER the catering came on the plane the inbound to HBA from MEL, SYD etc.
I thought they would put out some eggs (scrambled or boiled), and/or some baked beans. And no, nothing hot in the HBA QP - just the salad and deli type stuff prepared in a kitchenette out the side, and the much vaunted sandwich maker!![]()
Visited HBA QP a couple of times... and it's not as below par compared to other QPs as such. Food selection quite comparable, but I've never seen it in the morning. (The last time I flew from HBA in the early morning I didn't have status and I was in Y... very long time ago). When Jetstar started, Qantas wanted to eliminate all QF flights from Tas - it was only the pollies that saved us from that fate (so its said). If you've ever had the dubious pleasure of a stay in the QP at HBA, you'll be able to see how much the airline cares about Hobart pax ... (Virgin of course have no lounge but that's due to zero space, I'm sure.)
