It was off a TPE-HKG-SYD-AKL flight on my way back to BNE (the check-in ladies in TPE couldn't understand why I didn't fly direct)... I remember arriving after the long journey and looking for a bench in the check-in hall I could lie down on for the rest of the night, but I wasn't the only one sleeping at the airport!
Enlighten me, I'm seriously considering it :)
The best bet is to transit if doing from Oz. I'm not sure if there was checked luggage coming from taipei... which would need check in hall.

On an over nighter you check in for the return flight, no checked luggage. used to be: follow the transit pax directions, get to a closed door, press a buzzer. A NZ Border Farce person opens the door, takes you up to redo security check. Then you go find a bench to sleep on.
there used to be a good area, straight through security, straight ahead up the escalator and then about half way along the concourse a bar on the right had side. kinda private benches and you could lay flat.

Is it definitely PNR creation date that is used for qualification, or is it the ticketed date?

I booked Easter flights yesterday but chose to pay by bpay so it was ticketed today. All payment/issue dates in the eticket say 25 Mar.

Past experience from those on this community would be PNR creation date and at that PNR creation in GMT.

Bookings made earlier today before midnight GMT would likely need chasing up manually with QF.

I registered this afternoon for the promo and will likely start booking from tomorrow at the earliest.

So will we still be able to use the "buy a gift voucher before 1 April to generate a PNR and later redeem it on a flight within the travel period to get the DSCs" technique?

Of course, purchasing a bunch of gift vouchers a couple of years ago in order to get DSCs backfired spectacularly because the pandemic hit and there was no travel allowed during the DSC offer travel period. I still have an unused gift voucher or two as a result.

But, assuming there won't be another disruption of such global scale, it would be good to get a PNR and then have more time to figure out travel plans rather than rushing to get everything sorted in the next few days.

Thanks for that. I checked the flights and they now cost more. Guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and cancel for credit and rebook if the cheaper fares reappear.

Evidently there are some traps with that approach. There's a thread on here somewhere regarding how Credits and Fare Codes work.

It's definitely Booking creation date and not payment date. In the case above, the booking was made outside of the promotion period even if payment processed within it:

If you book your eligible flight during the promotion period, you will earn the bonus reward regardless of payment date. You will not earn double Qantas Points or double Status Credits if you do not complete your payment on the advised payment due date. If you book your eligible flight outside the promotion period and pay for your booking within the promotion period, your booking will not be eligible to earn the double Qantas Points or double Status Credits.

What does it say about status chasing that I am sitting here in London recovering from covid and registering for double status credits to get me to Platinum for the first time in a few months!? P.S. I am only visiting, not resident here.

Please post a suitable “resting” area at AKL, I have booked this flight for July.
SYD/MEL/AKL/MEL/SYD in J

Anyone choosing the double points? 😝
I may choose points even if the earn rate is at the base or minimum guarantee. At the moment SCs are of little or no value, if I take 1 flight before the end of Jul that locks in P1 for another year. My days of P1 are numbered and will fall to WP which sees me through to 2024, already have LTG and no chance of hitting LTP. At best I may buy a few vouchers for future use.

bugger the status. Hope you recover well and no longer term effects. best wishes!

As best I can make out that is irrelevant to this promo. I still havn't found which part of the page that condition applies but if you look at the three steps at the top of the page and click on the footnote marker, none of them direct to that condition.

Yep, see post #54 :)

AMEX $450 flight credit(creates new booking),
Been trying that all afternoon. The “use travel credit” button has disappeared from AMEX travel website. CSO patched me through to Amex travel after the usual extended wait time and walkthrough to confirm it’s awry. Told 2 hour wait time for AMEX travel (I wonder why?), duly waited till I got a message 20 minutes after knockoff time that AMEX.Travel have “evacuated the building”. And of course they reopen Monday…

Evacuated the building. That’s a new one. Take a deep breath and ready to spend money.

Anyone choosing the double points? 😝
Mrs Pineapple is another. She is LTG, never came anywhere near WP, so has no need for SCs. She has a shiny new double points booking though. :)

cheers skip

I just redeemed a $450 Ultimate Card TC 15 mins ago - no issues. Maybe try again?

Lovely to see the "I Still Call Australia Home", but obviously comes hours after I book flights to London haha. Would explain why the price surged for my dates in the past 24 hours.

Even if Qantas did change "Rio" to "Rome" #cheeky.

That game may be up:

Are Qantas Flight vouchers eligible for this offer?

Flight Vouchers purchased and redeemed for an eligible flight booking made during the promotion period will be eligible for the bonus reward. Flight Vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking (for flights that are not booked or travelled within the booking or travel period dates), will not earn the bonus reward.

That said, the real question is whether Qantas's backend is smart enough to make the distinction. My guess is no. Also, I'm not sure what a "flight voucher" is. Gift vouchers, sure, but flight vouchers?

(And since when is "Flight" a proper noun?)

Hmmm on the rough dates I need to travel mid year the return J flights are very expensive on QF metal. Going EK metal wouldn't get the DSC to justify the cost. Looking for about ~$8-9k for return J to LHR from MEL (possibly indirect via SYD) on QF metal.
If you do not trust the GV booking option and just want to make the cheapest booking possible that is a real flight that will tick all the conditions book BCI-LRE one way, it can only be booked in Y flex for around $150-$160 cheaper with QBR. This can be changed to the UK or any other domestic or international flight if the prices come down or turned back into a credit to use for anything else. As the original booking is in Y flex it can be changed for free even after the blanket free change period is lifted. I also suspect the GV system will still work.
