Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Certainly a lot of aircraft in a holding patterns north, south and east of Dubai ... round and round we go

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The QF website is now suggesting that QF2 will arrive DXB at 0950, 100 minutes late which is a significant amount of time to spend in a holding pattern.

Amusingly, the same site claims that departure will be at 0955. I heard of 'efficiency' but that's almost suburban train alighting and boarding speed!

The incessant buildup of planes trying to get into and out of DXB may cause further delays to the diverted QF9 that is presently sitting on the ground at BAH.

UPDATE: QF2 landed at DXB at 0921 local time, 71 minutes late.

QF9 has not long departed BAH at 0803 for a further amended arrival time in DXB of 1030. Again too optimistic, the QF website claims that the delayed QF9 will depart for LHR at 1130 with a 1500 hours arrival in LHR. I'd back it in that it won't be at LHR by that time.

With the diverted and hence delayed QF9 now having arrived in DXB after its second holding pattern for the day (must be fun for the pilots I don't think), the Qantas website has now put back departure for LHR to a more likely 1200 with arrival in LHR forecast (again a bit optimistically) at 1540, three and a quarter hours late.

UPDATE: The delayed QF2 has departed DXB at 1113, 78 minutes late.

The delayed QF2 is shown as due in SYD at 0800 tomorrow morning (Wednesday 31 December 2014) 70 minutes late.

Meanwhile, having completed its unscheduled tour of part of the Middle East, the diverted and delayed QF9 has finally left DXB at 1313, almost five hours late, with QF claiming it will arrive LHR at 1650, four hours and 25 minutes behind time, but still more than four hours before the return working - QF2 - is timetabled to depart LHR for DXB and SYD.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

..... but there is no indication that it will be diverted, though it may well have a wait to get into DXB.

What would be an indication to you that it might be diverted?

Looks like QF94 diverted to Syd this morning.
It is now close to arriving at MEL, a touch over 2 hours late.
Therefore has caused a delay for QF93, which will no doubt be departing approx 3 hours late.

If it's 2 hours late, why will that make the subsequent departure 3 hours late?

It was more or less a guess. Flying this route regularly, I find it common that a 2 hour turnaround time is hard.
Be interesting to see what time it departs MEL today. Looks as though it arrived from Syd at 1207.
JB, would you be aware of a reason for this SYD stop?

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Current departure eta 1430

Not specifically, but carrying any sort of weather/diversion/ATC holding for Melbourne can be problematic, especially if it isn't notified until after departure. On one of my recent flights, ATC changed their holding requirement from 20 minutes to 40, well after we had departed. We used some Star Trek 'tech', and had some more gas beamed up.

I have two tickets for the same flight, one booked with CX and one booked with QF.

QF has emailed me to say one of the legs has changed time... but CX have said nothing.

When i checked CX site it shows no change

Not worried about it.... still have time for it to change......

Offloaded sick passenger on Syd- Adl flight then had to locate luggage. At least an hour late now. Pax was sitting next to MrP. :(

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I have friends on QF11 today.
Flight was scheduled to depart at 15:00 but got away over half an hour late.
It's now back in SYD apparently with air conditioning problems.

At least they are on an A380...yesterday QF12 was substituted with an old config non-refurb 744 (VH-OJI http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744-56J40PY275Y.pdf). I was in Y so not much difference, but people in J must have been p**ssed. I know there can be changes for operational reasons, but I guess now most people expect the LAX-SYD/MEL route to be served by A380 and refurbished 744.
Funny thing is that QF8 made a stop at LAX to pick up some extra QF12 PAX (I guess some F PAX too).

MrP finally arrived home late. Several passengers were on loading to EK Emirates flight to Dubai with less than 30 minutes to get through immigration and board. All were told to go immediately thru immigration and board. They can't delay EK too much because of Adelaide's curfew.

No idea what the health issue was. Pax was travelling with a child having flown from Vanuatu. Crew asked the pax next to her to move to Business. Then checked the pax a few minutes later and decided to offload. Her illness wasn't obvious.

MrP said the Captain and crew were excellent at keeping everyone informed.
