Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

It appears that QF94 LAX > MEL is going to be landing in Sydney shortly, no idea why though.

The ATIS has cloud at 600 feet. So, if everyone is on instrument approaches, it will most likely slow things down, and it's quite likely that ATC have increased their holding requirements. The position he's turned back at is basically the last point to decide on that sector, so if he doesn't have the fuel requirements, and the weather/ATC issues haven't gone away, then you turn back.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

With a severe storm around MEL airport and other cells approaching from the west, some flights such as QF625 (scheduled 1500 ex BNE) and QF692 (1640 ex ADL) have been or are in a holding pattern north of MEL in the Goornong area. Delays at this stage are not severe (at least for arrivals) but with more 'activity' weatherwise on the way, this may change a little.

Departures ex MEL may be being held on the ground, among other reasons perhaps due to delays in loading luggage and freight.

These evening storms must truly be loved by airline operations staff. A high pressure job given that the Bureau of Meteorology has difficulty forecasting with 100 per cent accuracy the geographical coverage, severity and length of such storms.

Great, storms in MEL now and expected in SYD later tonight

Tipping I don't get home tonight

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Monday's QF7 & QF8 rotation SYD-DFW-SYD delayed overnight. Anyone know why? (I am supposed to be on QF8... Have been given a new departure time of 09:30 on Tuesday.)

Have they put you up for the night?

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Flying this route regularly, I find it common that a 2 hour turnaround time is hard.

Tonight's QF10 arrival departed LHR 72 minutes late on Tuesday 17 February (fairly unusual as both it and QF2 have a pretty good record of on or close to time departures ex LHR) and is shown as due into MEL at 2245, 70 minutes late. Lately it has been common for QF10 to arrive MEL more than 15 minutes late but '70 minutes' is relatively unusual.

Once again, QF9 will be late as QF is unable to turn around the A380 in much less than two hours. On this occasion the QF website acknowledges this and shows tonight's 2335 timetabled departure as delayed until 0045 on Thursday 19 February 2015. It then enters into the world of fiction, suggesting that if QF10 arrives DXB at 0735 tomorrow (50 minutes late) it can depart that busy airport at its scheduled 0830 after a stop of 55 minutes. Not likely.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF19 from SYD to MNL departed late yesterday, Friday 20 February 2015 and arrived MNL at 1823, 23 minutes late. However it spent overtime there and did not depart until 2353 local time. Hence it is not due in SYD this morning (21 February) until 1043, four hours and 13 minutes late.

In turn this morning this is expected to delay QF81 from SYD from its usual 1115 departure to a suggested 1245 this afternoon. I would have thought that QF could turn around an A330 in SYD in 90 minutes so allowing two hours gives a bit more leeway than perhaps necessary. QF suggests that QF81 will arrive SIN at 1750 in lieu of the timetabled 1630 as a result. No doubt some AFFers have (fond?) memories of QF81 when it was a mini milk run stopping in ADL en route in both directions.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF155 has been delayed this evening in departing MEL from 1840 to an estimated 2250, making for a most pleasant time of the morning in AKL to arrive on Monday 23 February 2015 around 0430 - just time to get to one's hotel and grab an hour's shut eye before rising for that all important 0900 meeting.

QF however should not feel 'lonesome' as NZ726 is forecast to be delayed by a net 20 minutes more, from 1830 timetabled ex MEL to an amended 2300, making for a similarly almost dawn arrival in AKL tomorrow.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Today's QF598 PER-BNE was delayed by 3 hours. First the plane was to be an A330 with normal Q seating, then it was changed to one of the old configuration Jetstar planes, but that was the cause for the delay so we got the new 330.....WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a great layout and the cabin crew are still excited it...got great service all the way. My Emirates J class from PER-DXB_DUB next Sunday is going to be a real backward step.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I was just checking on the loadings for QF12 tomorrow from LAX (26/2) and noticed at some point today it switched to a 747. A quick check of today's QF11 heading to LAX in an hour or so shows it has changed to a 747. Anyone know why?

Still showing 32K on my booking (which would be upgraded to Y+) but assuming that will change. I am guessing I won't get such a good seat either... and any change of an upgrade to J is definitely over with current availability showing 0 on all classes.. might change to the QF16 direct flight.

QF8 is diverting to BNE tomorrow morning.

QF5 appears to have been cancelled this evening. It seems it was delayed due to weather and then later cancelled. So it must be a tech issue with the aircraft, an A333.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The QF8 is going to BNE but it is not a diversion, as the decision was made prior to departure from DFW. There was de-icing issues and this put the crew near their maximum hours, so the decision was made to go to BNE instead. The aircraft will ferry back from BNE to SYD with passengers placed on domestic flights (or international if continuing else where)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Our QF11 to LAX got switched from an A380 to a quite old 747 on 28th February so it was goodbye First Class and hello Business Class. That means there would be a return flight out of LAX to get that old bird back to Sydney.

A weather delay leading to cancellation does not mean it must an issue with the aircraft.

What kind of recompense did they offer? Sure, it is different to the paid J, SG downgrade debacle that was mentioned here not too long ago. Booked F and F not available at the last minute... not quite the same as QF127/128 being scheduled permanently to a 747 from an A380 and given some notice..

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Hmmm ... what aircraft operated qf11/qf12? Was it a 4 class with the old lay First seats?

On the 28th it was operated by a reconfigured 747, but I noticed the next day it was operated by an old 4 class.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I won't be able to answer the compensation question as I don't have it in the bank. We both received 200 status credits and the seats were the Mark1 not quite flat ones that are very easy to adjust. The service was pretty good and 13 hours from Sydney to Los Angeles. There was business and economy and I didn't walk to see if there was premium economy.
The ice age has just started here in Los Angeles with hail stones mixed with rain.
At the urging of Mrscove I bought the two tickets.......

Same thing happened on the 26th. The a380 QF11 changed to a 747 and obviously the QF12 I was on changed to the same 747. I think that was the first day it seemed to happen - it has been exclusively 747s since then - but they knew ~24 hrs before as the seatmaps changed then the a380 was not going to be available so I wonder what has happened.

No idea why. Staff on the ground weren't sure why either.
