Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Due to late running yesterday, QF130 from PVG to SYD (VH-QPH) is 40 minutes late this morning. It is expected to arrive at 0910. It is shown as using gate 27 which means that the 0945 departure of QF23 from SYD to BKK will similarly be delayed unless the gate information posted on the QF website changes or is incorrect.

Even if half of the pax were destined to SYD, assuming full loads, that might be 200 pax. The rest are put on other domestic flights direct. It appeared quite fortuitous that given it was a Monday, there were half-hourly flights BNE-SYD - which weren't full due to the public holiday, and which quickly turned into Y0.

Much cheaper to put pax on direct domestic flights which are essentially a sunk cost (assuming there's enough capacity) - than fully crewing an A380 for only 2 hours.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The Monday late night (2355 hours) LAX departure of QF18 (VH-OEI) for SYD was put back to 0350 on Tuesday morning LAX time. It is now 0420 in LAX and QF18 has just begun to move off blocks. If the crew lacked advance notice, surely this must have come within the proverbial hair of being cancelled due to over time on permitted hours? QF18 therefore will not be in SYD until after 1100 tomorrow morning.

They would have known over a day ago.. This was flow on effect from delayed QF11 out of SYD yesterday due to fog. QF11 didn't arrive in JFK until 9.30pm, which is over 4 hours late.

In this case, I believe crew hours are not brought into contention, as they will simply 'sign on' a few hours later than originally planned. Crew hours become an issue with unplanned delays - often they become 'active' as soon as they leave the hotel or arrive at the airport, and then the clock starts counting down!

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

VH-QPD operating QF35 has just taken off from MEL to SIN about three and a half hours late and is not forecast to arrive the latter until 2045 in lieu of the timetabled 1755, being able to make up some time as the northbound timetable is arguably rather generous.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Qf82 has been delayed 13 hours overnight and will now depart SIN at 9.15am this morning.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Flyerqf, the QF82 lateness may be a contributing factor to how today's QF5 is forecast to be delayed from 1605 to 2015 departing SYD for SIN. QF81 on the same route today is delayed, but by much less, from 1020 to an expected 1105 ex SYD, while QF23 that should have departed a few minutes ago at 0945 for BKK is delayed in SYD until a suggested 1020.

Tonight's QF6 ex SIN for SYD will presumably be delayed but is so far not shown as being so.

Would it be easier to list the non-Tasman International fights which are running to time?? :)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The overnight delayed QF82 (VH-QPG) is about to touch down in SYD about 13 hours late, so it should be at Gate 30 at 1910. It is forming QF5 (meaning that there was no suitably configured spare A330 in SYD, or perhaps no spare A330 of whatever configuration) that is still shown as departing at 2015 for a forecast 0210 arrival in SIN on Friday 10 April 2015, three hours and 40 minutes late. 70 minutes seems to be about the minimum turnaround for an international flight operated by an A330, which is reasonable considering the more complex catering, baggage, passenger logistical and crewing arrangements than for a domestic A330 flight.

In turn, QF now estimates QF6 to depart SIN at the unpleasant hour of 0330 for an arrival tomorrow in SYD at 1310 instead of the timetabled 0945. It is then rostered to form QF5, the 1605 Friday departure so touch wood, that should be on time.

Tell me you're getting paid for this sort of analysis...

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Overnight the gate allocations for some of today's A330 SYD departures have altered. Last night's QF24 from BKK to SYD that should have departed at 1825 on Thursday 9 April did not leave until 0156 this morning BKK time, so is not due in SYD until 1410 today instead of 0645. QF6 departed SIN at 0330 this morning and should be in SYD at 1330 this afternoon in lieu of its usual 0945.

QF23 to BKK is delayed from 0945 to 1045, so QF24 tonight from BKK back to SYD will be late if there's much of a further delay on top of the forecast.

QF19 from SYD to MNL is suggested as delayed from 1210 to 1440, meaning a predicted MNL arrival of 2040, only 10 minutes before the normal 2050 departure of QF20, so although not yet shown on the QF website, expect QF20 to be at least an hour late departing MNL tonight.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Hi FM thought you were in the Melbourne F Lounge awaiting QF9?
Yeah I know I shouldn't have posted on the Mel F RSA thread, but I had never seen self serve in Syd either, so I took a photo..... So no - bored in the Syd lounge waiting for QF1, and probably no chance of making our connection to Venice :(

Bummer

lets hope they keep the champers flowing and offer a second Spa Treatment to help pass away the time.

Happy flying and good luck with the Connection.

they have promised the First Host will meet us in London and sort it all out - looks like we might have to go Gatwick!

Yep definitely flying from Gatwick as it is now a 3.5 hour delay. :)

Do they have a first Lounge at Gatwick?

Good question - according to their website - yes! On the plus side at least I will have time for a shower and will be able to immediately check in to our hotel in Venice. :)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Today's QF23 was delayed longer than anticipated, departing SYD at 1123 (98 minutes late) with forecast arrival at BKK at 1755, 80 minutes late. THe QF website is still showing tonight's QF24 back from BKK as departing on time at 1825, which is impossible if QF23 is forming QF24 as normal.

The Manila, flight, QF19 was also delayed far longer than anticipated, leaving SYD 242 minutes late at 1612 for what QF suggests is a MNL arrival at 2215, three hours and 45 minutes late. Due to the recently introduced longer turnaround time in MNL of two hours and 20 minutes, the southbound will not be as late with QF forecasting a departure at 2325 instead of 2050 with a SYD arrival in the morning of 0920, two and a quarter hours late.

Flying mermaid's advice of a three and a half hour delay in the 1600 hours QF1 departure tonight remains correct, but the QF website unrealistically suggests that the A380 can spend just 45 minutes in DXB and therefore arrive LHR only two hours late tomorrow (Saturday 11 April 2015.) This once again appears optimistic. Perhaps the website needs a little bit of human intervention from a colleague of the famous Red Roo.
