Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

We're all thinking of and praying for your connection, Flying mermaid, but one reason I suggest that the website times are unrealistic is that while there is no doubt on many occasions that QF1 can make up some time on the schedule to DXB (including reducing the time on the ground at DXB), history shows that often when it is running late that it then loses time between DXB and LHR, presumably largely because of 'traffic' ahead of it upon approach to LHR. So I will quite surprised if you touch down before 0930 London time but I'm happy to be proven incorrect.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

In Dubai at the moment still haven't boarded. We have been rebooked on the flight for Gatwick to Venice at 13:30, so no more worrying about connections. We have been promised that a First Host will meet us at the aircraft in London, our luggage extracted and we will be sent by car to Gatwick, so no complaints really.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

AFF's Flying mermaid is just pulling up at LHR - or more correctly VH-OQE is - at about 0938, as suggested after 0930 - and not far shy of three hours late. She'll soon be in First Host hands. QF10 should be unaffected by QF1's late arrival.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Friday night's QF94 A380 has been delayed overnight to a forecast 1430 hours on Saturday 11 April 2015 departure from LAX. If this turns out to be so, it will arrive in MEL at 2250 tomorrow night (Sunday 12) instead of 0735, so presumably many passengers are being put up by QF in hotels, difficult as rooms can sometimes (often?) be to find en masse in Los Angeles.

Sunday 12 April's QF93 is expected to incur a two hour departure delay: 0950 becomes 1150. Will this be a case of QF ferrying down an A388 from SYD on Sunday morning to form QF93?

I have a good friend on this flight - would appreciate any insight you all might have!

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The delayed departure time for Friday night's QF94 has been further put back to 1500 ex LAX - in about 20 minutes' time. QF suggests MEL arrival tonight at 2330.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

A388 VH-OQC is well on its way from SYD to MEL as a ferry flight QF6007 to operate the delayed QF93 and should be at the MEL gate at a little before 1000. This makes departure for QF93 around 1200 likely as one assumes that catering is loaded in MEL not SYD as per normal.

Once more, the departure time in LAX of Friday night's QF94 has been put back further to 1615 on Saturday 11 April. However it is already almost 15 minutes past that time. Much further delay and the flight may again be significantly delayed due to crew hours being exceeded.

UPDATE: QF94 is now supposedly departing LAX in under five minutes, at a claimed 1700 hours. QF suggests MEL arrival will be 0105 tomorrow morning (Monday 13 April 2015.)

QF94D (D for 'delayed') (VH-OQB) finally departed LAX at 1728 on Saturday for a forecast arrival in MEL of 0155 on Monday morning. Meanwhile this morning's delayed QF93 left MEL at 1155, VH-OQC being the aircraft.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Hours late? Immaculate service? Interesting concept F m
I gave up expecting planes to be on time probably 20 years ago. If they make it work when it goes wrong then I am happy. Yesterday was wonderful service - no stress, no worries. Of course in an ideal world it would all run on time, but it doesn't and I accept that as part of the traveling experience.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Seriously? Do you always fly QF?
Hmm, last time (4 times) I flew EK they were ALL delayed. All on A380's. I have the exact thoughts as FM. It's is IME that A380's struggle to run on time. I will add also, that it wasn't the weather that delayed these aircrafts.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Airlines that I have flown on over the years that were delayed include, air New Zealand, Etihad, Crimean, Virgin, United , American Airlines, BA, Olympic, Thai, Cathay, Comair, Kenyan and more. Sometimes you go years without a delay, but sometimes you get a bad run. I have had 3 international flights with Qantas in 6 weeks, all with really bad delays. I hope my bad run is coming to an end., as in the previous couple of years I hadn't had a single international delay with them.

I should add that I don't "Expect" planes to be late - I am a naturally optimistic person! However I am also not surprised when they are and as long as service recovery is good, it doesn't bother me. I also spend quite a few nights at airport hotels, to avoid stress over potential connection problems.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Got a text about an hour ago saying QF511 was cancelled for tomorrow morning. Im flying BNE to SYD with the girlfriend and then onto MNL at midday.

Rescheduled us on QF509, means I have to get up half an hour early but all is well. Plane looks pretty full with that reshuffling, would love a bump as now Ive got seats all the way up the back due to the reassign. Can always dream :)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

A388 VH-OQB has ferried back up to SYD ex MEL as a result of the problems with QF94 in the last day or so and the previous necessity to send a spare A388 down from SYD to operate yesterday's more than two hour delayed QF93. This may the cheapest way to keep passengers on the move (so well done QF) but it must be a reasonably expensive exercise for an airline.

The much delayed QF94 from Friday night ex LAX (that eventually departed LAX at 1728 on Saturday) finally arrived MEL at 0158 this morning. I feel for those passengers who got home to a Melbourne bed at 0330 - 0430 and found it hard to get a bit of a kip before fronting for work or other Monday activities, irrespective of what class they'd travelled from LAX in on the A388.

QF127 (B744 VH-OJI) is slightly more than an hour and a half late today but should be at HKG ex SYD at about 1900 tonight. QF128 is not shown as delayed yet on the QF website but I suggest that it will depart after its timetabled 2015 hours scheduled pushback. QF127 has a quite good punctuality record: it has not recently suffered extensive delays like those incurred by some MEL - LHR - MEL, SYD - LHR - SYD or MEL- LAX - MEL A388 operated flights.

While our Flying mermaid is no doubt a compassionate and forgiving soul (like all mermaids) and notwithstanding the very complex equipment that A380s are and the obvious requirement for safety first to override everything else, I would not be too impressed with a three and a half hour initial delay (slightly less than three hours late into LHR) as she experienced. True, things can and will go wrong (and airlines cannot control weather or sometimes passenger behaviour such as turning up late at a gate) but airlines trade on their punctuality performance (admittedly more so domestically than internationally) and three hours late is nowhere near punctual. That said, the exact cause of the delay our mermaid experienced has not been published.

I'll definitely report back when I hear from them. Interestingly I discovered after I submitted my claim that EC 261/2004 is actually covered in some depth in the QF Conditions of Carriage.

Just had a message from QF Customer Care that they are paying out the compensation as per their conditions of carriage. €600 converted into AUD and going onto my credit card.
Pretty happy with that outcome and also happy with the speed that it was dealt with :)

Does that mean you'll lose some points if payments to your credit card reduce the points paid at statement time?

Anyway it's good to see that you've received the appropriate compensation,

Possibly will but in the scheme of things I'm not too fussed. I honestly thought I'd have to put quite a bit of effort into following this up so I'm amazed and pleased that it wasn't difficult at all.
