Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Sometimes buildings may be the reason (in the way) but I can't see that the 12 hours delayed QF11 from SYD to LAX has pushed back in Sydney as at 2241 AEST. Perhaps it will magically do so in five minutes! Not visible on FR24.

VH-ZNA with the delayed QF11 eventually pushed back at 23:13 & took off at 23:23. Approx. 13 hours depending on which figure one uses.

Pushing back in SYD after 2245 hours (if not an approved freighter flight) requires a dispensation issued by 'the delegate' of the Federal Minister for Transport. A report to Parliament is regularly produced showing dispensations approved or rejected.

On Wednesday 7 September 2022, QF151 (A332 VH_EBP), the early morning 0710 hours MEL-AKL took off at 0805 hours, arriving at 1319, 34 late.

Earlier, A388 VH-OQD arrived as QF2 ex SIN and before that LHR at 0543, 33 minutes tardy.

A388 VH-OQD on the 1015 hours SYD-LAX was at runway's end by 1129 awaiting takeoff, and took of at 1130. Same day arrival at 0746, 46 minutes late is the suggestion.

B789 VH-ZNF should shortly arrive at 0943 hours (58 minutes tardy) in PER as QF6 ex FCO. SYD arrival this afternoon is claimed as approximately 1700, so with this aircraft doing the usual third consective 'yoyo' between SYD and FCO, the very late afternoon QF5 at 1755 ex SYD will be delayed by a similar, or perhaps longer, amount. No time for proper cleaning!

QF6 eventually pushed back at 11:37, 92 minutes late. This further delay forced B789 VH-ZNB to sit on the taxiway, after touching down with QF10 from London early at 11:20.
The "temporary" Qantas International Terminal [T3] is apparently only using one gate.

It's not only in PER that there are B789 delays on Wednesday 7 September.

QF9, the 1515 hours mid afternoon MEL-PER-LHR has just taken off at 1615 with B789 VH-ZNJ. It had been in MEL since 0531 this morning, arriving 29 minutes ahead of schedule as QF94 from LAX. Arrival at gate should be at around the 1755 hours mark, 40 late. It's still possible to be timely into London Heathrow tomorrow morning UK time.

QF6 from FCO and PER should arrive Sydney at around 1715, 70 late.

A388 VH-OQH on the 1555 hours 7 September QF1 from SYD to SIN and later LHR was displaying as on time, but has altered to a projected 1750 hours pushback from Sydney. Goodness knows why.

OQK is on last night's QF2 that should arrive SIN in a couple of hours at about 1804 hours, 39 minutes behind schedule.

QF157 (7 September, the 1855 hours MEL-AKL with B738 VH-XZA) pointed skywards at 1956 so expected arrival is 0110 hours, 40 minutes behind the schedule.

QF1 was airborne at 1824 so SIN arrival on Thursday 7 September should be 0024 hours, 129 minutes late. Unlikely to arrive LHR at anything close to time.

As expected, B789 VH-ZNF turned around at Sydney and operated the Wednesday 7th QF5 back to Perth and Rome, with however the delay out to 92 minutes.
After arriving in Perth just 74 minutes late, the timetabled 90 minute stop ran over, with gate departure a short while ago at 23:58 AWST, out to 98 minutes late.
FlightAware shows an arrival in Rome 81 minutes late at 10:06 CEST, while Qantas Flight Status shows the correct departure time, and a seemingly over optimistic arrival delay of just 60 minutes.

On Thursday 8 September, QF8 from DFW to SYD has B789 VH-ZNC with at gate arrival expected at 0730 hours, 55 minutes late.

B738 VH-XZB is on QF44, the 2225 hours redeye on Wednesday 7 from DPS down to SYD, so arrival should be shortly at 0709 hours, 44 late as last night takeoff was at 2345.

Still on Thursday 8, QF1 was airborne from SIN this morning at 0227 hours so LHR arrival for A388 VH-OQH should be 124 minutes late at 0839 hours. In the opposite direction, 'the 2' arrived in SYD at 0552 hours, 42 late with VH-OQK.

B789 VH-ZNJ arrived LHR with QF10 (ex PER and MEL yesterday) at 0548 hours, 43 minutes behind schedule.

The frequently delayed QF151 this morning (0710 hours MEL-AKL) had B738 VH-VZY. It was airborne at 0759 making gate arrival 1318, 33 late.

B789 VH-ZND on long haul QF7 for DFW is predicted to depart SYD an hour late at 1640 mid to late afternoon.

QF5 (B789 VH-ZNF) is on Thursday 8 September expected to arrive at its FCO gate at 1001 hours, 76 minutes late, among the latest it's been since this seasonal flight commenced. 789nerd's suggestion three posts above that QF's flight status page on its website was optimistic has been proven correct.

This will inevitably delay QF6 back to PER and eventually on Friday afternoon Sydney.

On Friday 9 September, QF11 (1015 hours SYD-LAX, A388 VH-OQD) is expected to depart at 1150 hours.

On balance, the LAX route for QFi is more punctual than the LHR route, but it's not free of delays or less frequently, cancellations.

QF145 (1115 hours SYD up to AKL) is delayed to an expected 1200 'high noon'.

QF6 eventually arrived in Perth 87 minutes late, and was delayed further, departing 134 minutes late. Arrival in Sydney has varying estimates from 95 minutes late upwards.

The normal continuation of QF17 to LAX at 20:25 may be affected.

This mornings QF63 SYD-JNB (B789 VH-ZNH) left 58 minutes late, after the previous ZNH flight (QF76 YVR-SYD) arrived on time.

Meanwhile B789 VH-ZND cleared the Dallas gate on time with QF8, after arriving 113 minutes late with QF7.

There appear to be issues with QF94 (B789 VH-ZNB) as after briefly starting it's take-off roll at LAX, it appears to have turned back onto the taxiway and stopped.

Update: the aircraft has now returned to the head of the runway and taken off 50 minutes late.

QF11 on 9 September was airborne at 1230 from Sydney with expected arrival on the same day in the City of Angels becoming 0835, 95 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday's QF1 from SYD arrived SIN at 2152 hours, 23 early with A388 VH-OQK, but then did not take off until 0135 this morning with the likely result of LHR at gate arrival becoming 0750 hours, 75 minutes late. QFi seems to have great difficulty in operating timely planes on this route.

Continuing with Friday 9, QF1 (1555 hours SYD-SIN-LHR) took off at 1719 with arrival estimated as 58 minutes behind at 2313 hours in sultry SIN.

Earlier, QF41 (1350 hours SYD-CGK, unusually an A332 in the shape of VH-EBL) was airborne at 1648 hours with suggested at gate arrival of 2107 hours, 142 minutes behind schedule. Inevitably, southeast bound QF42 tonight will be tardy.

A388 VH-OQH as QF2 from London Heathrow should very shortly arrive in SIN at about 1810, 45 behind.

Friday nights can be bad for late running, even if weather is largely OK.

On 9 September 2022, QF1456, the 2110 hours mid evening CBR up the short hop to SYD did not take off until 2237 hours, so arrival post-curfew is estimated as 2322 (i.e. landing at 2317 hours). Aircraft is Q200 VH-TQG.

QF561 (B738 VH-VYI, the 2040 hours from BNE down to SYD) was airborne at 2132 with at gate arrival becoming 2249 hours, 34 minutes late.

The 1955 hours SYD-ADL wasn't in the sky until 2135 hours with B738 VH-VZX, so its gate time is suggested as 2257, just before the 2300 hours curfew, and 87 minutes behind schedule.

Friday 9's QF1 should arrive LHR on Saturday 10 at 0722 hours, 47 minutes late with A388 VH-OQB.

B789 VH-ZNG on 'the 10' from Friday 9 took off at 1244 ex LHR, with PER Saturday 10 arrival estimated as 1227, 47 minute slate, making on-time arrival in Melbourne tonight most unlikely.

VH-OQK on QF2 was airborne from LHR last night at 2219, so SIN arrival early this evening is suggested as 56 late at 1821 hours.

A332 VH-EBE on QF72, the 1840 hours Friday evening SIN down to PER arrived the latter this morning at 0026 hours, 36 late.

QF91 (0740 hours Saturday 10 SYD-NOU) is showing as delayed until 0830 in pushback, but by 0842 the aircraft had not done so.

Q300 VH-TQK arrived LST as flight 2287 from MEL at 2119, 64 minutes late last night. This morning it's operating as QF2280, the 0630 hours back to MEL, yet to depart as at 0845 hours.

QF63 (0930 hours SYD-JNB) is expected to depart an hour late.

This flight eventually departed at 12:25 (B789 VH-ZND), 5 minutes short of 3 hours late.
As yet there has been no update to the departure time from Jo'burg of QF64, however the estimated arrival time of QF63 is already 3 minutes after timetabled departure time.

This will likely delay departure time of tomorrow's QF7 SYF -DFW, as a 3 hour delay swallows up all the ground time at Sydney.
