Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF512 (see my post above) took off at 1108 hours so SYD must have 'reopened'.

QF63 was airborne at 1117 hours for JNB from SYD.

The Sydney storms have also badly affected some international flights.

QF23, the 1030 hours SYD-BKK took off at 1301 this afternoon with A333 VH-QPF, so arrival is suggested tonight at 1819 hours, 129 minutes late.

Earlier this morning (pre storms), the 1225 hours SYD-MNL QF19 was displaying as a 1400 hours projected pushback, but this has altered to 1430 mid afternoon.

A388 VH-OQD on QF11, the 1120 hours SYD-LAX was in the sky at 1315 so same day suggested at gate arrival becomes 0713 hours, 68 minutes tardy.

QF21 MEL-DFW currently showing a delay of 3.5 hours until 17:30

QF35 also delayed from 1pm to 8pm so far

QF9 also delayed by 3 hours. Not a good day for QF

QF61 BNE-HND has also had an almost 18-hour delay from 11.50 today, to 6am tomorrow morning, resulting in the return QF62 HND-BNE being postponed to tomorrow afternoon from tonight.

And to show that sometimes MEL and BNE can be similar despite rivalry, as a 'balance', QF35, the 1250 hours lunchtime MEL-SIN is delayed to an estimated 2000 hours tonight. If that stays true, then perhaps QF36 could depart SIN at 0330 hours on Tuesday 13. This delay is not long enough to book passengers into an hotel for a decent sleep, and it's an unplesant amended departure time, especially for senior citizens and young children. Doubly sub optimal.

B789 VH-ZNC took off from SYD at 1551 hours as empty working QF6001 with arrival in MEL suggested as 1703 hours, although aircraft ahead of it are in some cases having to hold. I can't see at a quick glance that it's required for a QFi departure from Melbourne this afternoon or tonight.

Many (though not all) QFd flights are very unpunctual with QF879, the 1215 hours OOL-MEL airborne at 1331 due to arrive at its gate 73 minutes behind at 1643 on what is rapidly turning into a thundery, unpleasant afternoon except for ducks in Melbourne. However Sydney has had far more rain, and heavy to boot.

I think ZNC will operate the delayed QF21

FR24 agrees, with a departure time for this 1400 hours scheduled MEL up to DFW estimated as an optimistic 1855 hours.

Funny that you typed that, as I just had another quiz and realised QF9 from MEL to PER/LHR is also delayed in its Melbourne pushback by three hours to 1950 hours mid evening.

Continuing with Monday 12 December, QF41 (1355 hours SYD-CGK, A333 VH-QPJ) was not in the sky until 2026 tonight, so arrival is predicted as 2341 hours, 371 minutes late.

Earlier, QF19 (1225 hours SYD-MNL) took off at 1457 hours with QPI, so its arrival should be 1938 hours, 128 minutes behind schedule.

QF21 (MEL up to DFW) was earlier showing as badly delayed but has been cancelled.

QF9, earlier showing a delay of three hours from Melbourne became an A332, VH-EBC, to Perth with takeoff at 2054 meaning likely arrival at 2137 hours, 227 minutes late. There, passengers will transfer to B789 VH-ZND.

QF10 between PER and MEL still has VH-ZNE. It took off at 1624 for claimed arrival tonight at 2225 hours, an even two hours behind the timetable.

On Monday 12 December, return working (QF88, A333 VH-QPH) was supposedly arriving SYD at about 1005 hours, 110 minutes late but at 0959 the plane appears to have had a missed approach. IIRC these are not uncommon with sometimes a small number per day. There is substantial rain approaching Greater Sydney but while I'm not there so can't be definitive, it looks as if weather at the airport for the moment is benign.
My office is under the missed approach path off 34R. Let’s say there was a few concerned looks from staff not familiar with what a A330 on full engines sounds like.

As at 2259 hours on Monday 12 December, QF499 (2200 hours last of the night SYD-MEL, B738 VH-VYC) and QF25 (2135 hours SYD up to HND, A333 VH-QPH) had yet to take off.

If needed, I assume they have exemptions from the 2300 hours curfew. From memory an important aspect is that they must normally be off blocks by 2245 hours.

QF103 (A333 VH-QPB, the 2040 hours SYD-HNL) was airborne at 2256 hours so QF104 will be delayed arriving SYD tomorrow evening.

There are currently 10 aircraft, including QF25, QR909, EY455, QF655 and QF499, waiting for JQ987 and VA891 to land. As it is after 11pm, they can only operate over Botany Bay, so once the two have landed toward the north, the 10 queued planes will take off to the South.

On Tuesday 13 December 2022, QF20, the redeye from MNL to SYD (A333 VH-QPI) is arriving at 0815 hours, two hours behind schedule.

Presumably because the base is in Sydney, QFi keeps having to operate expensive empty flights to/from BNE and MEL. QF6002 has B789 VH-ZNE that was in the sky from MEL at 0736 hours with suggested SYD arrival 0837.

Showing the knock-on effect of yesterday's significant SYD (and to some extent MEL) storms, QF654 (A332 VH-EBG, the 2255 hours Monday 12 December PER-SYD) did not take off until 0235 hours on Tuesday 13 so arrival should be 0909 hours, 184 minutes behind schedule.

The BKK-SYD QF24 has A333 VH-QPE and should arrive at 0852 hours, 82 minutes late.

Looks like QF9 left PER before the arrival of the QF9 from MEL, presumably pax transferred to earlier domestic flights

We were due to fly on QF16 on Sat 10/12. I received an update in the app that I saw on Fri 9/12 local time telling us the flight had been cancelled. We'd been rebooked on QF12 and QF512. I was not optimistic about making that 90min connection, and we didn't after QF12 landed late. We were able to get onto QF516, and I was able to sit next to our 16yo (original seats had the three of us all over the plane apparently).

Mr Katie apparently received some alerts/emails from QF, and I found an SMS from them about the cancellation when I turned my Aus mobile sim on. I understand Saturday's QF15 (55?) was cancelled, which meant we had no operating aircraft for QF16.

Continuing with Tuesday 13 December, QF42 from CGK arrived SYD this morning at 1154 hours, 344 minutes tardy as QF41 was badly late yesterday.

The aircraft, A333 VH-QPJ, is forming the 1225 hours SYD-MNL QF19 with a claimed departure time of 1350 hours but by 1417 it had yet to become airborne.

QF25 tonight (2135 hours SYD-HND) is estimated to depart 50 minutes late as QF104 that is likely to form it is significantly delayed, given QF103 last night from SYD to HNL was similar.

The 1635 hours from SYD to DPS, normally an A332 is estimated to depart 160 minutes late at 1915 in the early evening.

VH-ZND operated a weather delayed (& B789 timetabled) QF641 domestic flight from Sydney to Perth, prior to taking the thus delayed QF9 on to London. The A332 (VH-EBC) was also timetabled for the MEL-PER QF9 sector, and as noted above was delayed, however ...

Either that or if on EBC, are spending 20 hrs in Perth before this (Tuesday) evenings flight.

ZND together with ZNH will operate the truncated QF9/QF10 PER-LHR services this week.

B789 VH-ZNG has returned to service (after having its rudder replaced in Los Angeles), operating a delayed QF94 LAX-MEL, pushing back at 21:56 PST (Monday), 51 minutes late. Qantas Flight Status shows its arrival time Wednesday morning into Melbourne as being just 17 minutes late at 08:17 AEDT.

Continuing with Tuesday 13 December 2022, QF19, the 1225 hours SYD-MNL took off at 1429 hours with A333 VH-QPJ: arrival should be at about 1910 hours, 100 minutes late, guaranteeing that QF20 (the redeye) will be at least 70 minutes late tomorrow morning back in Sydney.

A333 VH-QPF is on QF35 (1250 hours lunchtime MEL-SIN up up and away at 1338) for projected at gate arrival of 1817 hours, 32 minutes late.

B789 VH-ZND on as 789nerd suggests a truncated QF9 should arrive LHR at about 0651 hours, 106 minutes later than the unpleasant winter schedule of 0505 hours.
