Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Friday : While QF9 PER_LHR (B789 VH-ZNJ) left Perth on time last night, head winds through the Persian Gulf will see it arrive in London at least 60 minutes late (FlightAware). Qantas flight status shows 79 minutes late.

In the opposite direction QF10 (B789 VH-ZNH) is shown as making up time after taking off 50 minutes late. FlightAware 16 minutes late into Perth, Qantas flight status early.

QF27 SYD-SCL (B789 VH-ZNC) has been delayed, pushing back at 17:15 AEST, 4 hrs 40 late. It is expected to make up time, arriving in Santiago at 15:00 CLST, 4 hrs 5 minutes late. As this is 80 minutes after the return QF28 is due to depart, that flight will eventually show some delay.

The shocking unpunctuality of QF19 continues, with A333 VH-QPA working down from BNE this morning as empty flight QF6005, arriving SYD at 1147 hours for the impossible task of departing on time as the 1225 hours to MNL.

It turned around fairly promptly so arrival in the Philippine capital was at 1835, 65 minutes late.

Qantas flight status is now showing the return QF28 as departing at 16:45 CLST Friday, 3 hrs 5 minutes late, with revised arrival in Sydney of 20:20 AEDT Saturday, 2 hrs 30 minutes late.

QF28 eventually got away at 17:37 CLST, 3 minutes shy of 4 hours late. The further revised ETA into Sydney is now 21:58 AEDT this evening, 4 hours 8 minutes late.

Saturday : Found the flow on for the QF27/28 delays - due to the Sydney curfew, today's QF75 SYD-YVR is delayed 9 Hrs 35 minutes for a 06:00 AEDT departure tomorrow morning, resulting in an un-appealing 01:00 PST arrival into Vancouver on Sunday morning!

An equally un-appealing 03:00 PST (Sunday) departure is now posted for the return QF76, with estimated arrival in Sydney now 13:10 AEDT Monday afternoon, 6 hours 35 minutes late.

On Saturday 10 December 2022, QF19 continued with its dismal timeliness, taking off bang on 1400 nhours with A333 VH-QPJ, so expected arrival tonight is 1842 hours, 72 minutes tardy. The aircraft had been in SYD since 0606 hours (four minutes ahead of time) as QF42 from CGK, so perhaps 'the 19's' lateness can be ascribed to waiting for connecting passengers in Sydney, or security checking delays.

QF67, the 0930 hours SYD-BLR with A332 VH-EBN was not up up and away until 1353 hours this afternoon, so gate arrival looks to be at around the 2001 hours mark, 256 late.

QF81 (SYD-SIN), the 1230 hours departure that is due to arrive at 1750 was badly late on 1 December (104 minutes tardy) and 3 December (189 minutes behind schedule arriving) while on 4 December the deficit was 38 minutes.

QF19, the now daily 1225 hours SYD-MNL however has taken the cake, with today's expected to depart at 1500 hours. In the last nine or ten days it's only been on time arriving on 5 and 6 December, but up to three hours late on other days. A shocker.

Occasionally an A332 appears to be substituted for these flights, presumably when A333s are unavailable.

That recent turnback of CGK-bound QF41 to Sydney probably didn't help timekeeping.

QF23 (1030 hours SYD-BKK, usually an A333) is expected to depart an hour late this morning.

B789 VH-ZNA should arrive on QF28 (ex SCL) in SYD at 1843 hours, 53 minutes late this evening.

A332 VH-EBV is on QF69, the 0920 hours MEL-DEL that should arrive at 1706, 36 minutes tardy.

A388 VH-OQD is on QF1 that should be on blocks at LHR at 0709 hours, 54 minutes behind schedule. It had arrived SIN last night 36 late at 2246 hours.
Good to have you back, hope everything is okay!

Sunday 11 December 2022 sees QF75, the overnight delayed Saturday 10 2025 hours SYD-YVR airborne at 0626 hours with B789 VH-ZNC so as 789nerd mentioned above, an unattractive arrival in YVR looms at a predicted 0049 hours today, 564 minutes late.

This B789 had arrived in SYD last night from SCL as QF28 at 2135 hours mid evening, 225 minutes late but presumably QFi was unable to obtain permission from 'the delegate' for a pushback beyond the supposed final approval of 2245 hours. So even if crews were available, they were snookered.

A333 VH-QPJ on QF20 continues the very poor timekeeping of the MNL run with SYD arrival this morning expected at 0816 hours, 121 late.

A332 VH-EBS from DEL to MEL (QF70) looks to be arriving 36 late at 1241 hours. VH-EBN on QF68 from BLR to SYD is worse, as it should pull in at 1423, 223 late.

A friend travelling from SYD to BNE says that route is seeing many passengers travelling this morning being reallocated at short notice as at least one flight, the 1005 hours has been cancelled.

After having flights changed, passengers allegedly receive messages from QFd asking them to call it, but when patrons do this, the call centre staff ask them why they've made the call!

Inept, and with if booked on-the-day $900 one way economy fares being charged, one would think better service might be the result.

I am informed that some passengers travelling from SYD up to BNE on Sunday morning 11 December have been arbitrarily changed to the 1155 hours to CFS, wait an hour on the ground then to BNE, so without checking exact times, arrival there should be at about 1400.

Delightful for aircraft enthusiasts to know that the days of a two-sector intercapital trip with QFd haven't ceased. But one doubts that regular passengers would be impressed, especially if they have made prior arrangements re being picked up, or bookings on surface transport.

Chaotic.

Good to have you back, hope everything is okay!

Thanks, all is fine: was overseas on a lengthy trip, and also decided not to contribute for a while.

One much liked aviator on 'AFF' commented a while back 'it might be easier to report the flights that were punctual' or similar. At least domesticall;y and for some QFi flights, that's true. Less true for international non-QF group as many of these competitors manage operating with hardly any cancellations and not much late running. So I may not contribute every day.

The first QF88 from ICN back down to SYD on Saturday night, 10 December 2022 was A333 VH-QPF. This 1950 hours flight took off an hour late, arriving SYD this morning (Sunday 11) at 0901 hours, 46 minutes behind schedule.

QF87, the 0935 hours SYD-ICN today is VH-QPH. It looks to have pushed back at about 1048, but is yet to take off.

Sunday : both B789 flights out of Dallas overnight have been delayed ...
QF22 DFW-MEL (VH-ZNI) pushed back 56 minutes late at 20:06 CST, and is expected in Melbourne at 06:32 AEDT Monday, 47 minutes late.
QF8 DFW-SYD (VH-ZNA) pushed back 49 minutes late at 22:14 CST, and is expected in Sydney at 08:15 AEDT Monday, 45 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBE arrived PER as QF72 ex SIN at 0036 hours on Monday 12 December, 11 minutes late.

It must be substituting for another aircraft as it's now on QF654, the 2255 hours redeye from PER across to SYD that took off at 0241 hours for a suggested 0924 hours arrival, 199 minutes late. If this aircraft is rostered on other flights today with close to minimum turnarounds, it'll run late all day.

It's heavy lobbying week in Canberra with the extremely contentious proposed gas and coal tax major changes.

All the more important that Sydney to Canberra flights are timely. But QF1427 (Q300 - VH-TQY) as the 0805 hours was not airborne until 0920, so expected arrival becomes 69 late at 1009 hours.

On Monday 12 December, return working (QF88, A333 VH-QPH) was supposedly arriving SYD at about 1005 hours, 110 minutes late but at 0959 the plane appears to have had a missed approach. IIRC these are not uncommon with sometimes a small number per day. There is substantial rain approaching Greater Sydney but while I'm not there so can't be definitive, it looks as if weather at the airport for the moment is benign.

With the big storms passing over SYD, it looks like from about 1050 hours the airport has been closed to flights.

QF512 (B738 VH-VZH, the 1005 hours SYD-BNE) has been sitting at the end of a runway at least 10 minutes if not longer.

QF63 (0935 hours SYD-JNB, B789 VH-ZNA) has also been marooned at the end of a runway for many minutes.

One would expect the storms will cause delays all day, especially given that SYD like MEL and BNE is a major connecting hub.
