Qantas Delays/Cancellations

ZNC [LAX] & ZNH [SYD] seem to have possible maintenance issues. Of the other eight only two are dealing with delayed flights : ZNB (QF7) and ZND (QF9 PER-LHR sector)
Seems we can add ZNF to the list of delayed flights, with today's QF10 delayed 6½ hours at London. FR24 seems to think the aircraft is ZND, but that is definitely in Perth waiting for a 20:50 AWST departure with QF9 (delayed a further 45 minutes, since my earlier advice).

So then, as of 0020am SYD time:

- VH-ZNA: QF96 on-time
- VH-ZNB: QF7, delayed by about 5 hours
- VH-ZNC: In LAX, planned for QF93 but delayed, maintenance issue?; eventually cancelled
- VH-ZND: In PER, planned for QF9, delayed by 2+ hours
- VH-ZNE: QF22 largely on time
- VH-ZNF: In LHR, planned for QF but delayed 6 1/2 hours
- VH-ZNG: QF94 largely on time
- VH-ZNH: SYD, maintenance issue?
- VH-ZNJ: SIN, planned maintenance, out for another 10 days possibly
- VH-ZNK: QF27 on time

QF9 PER-LHR (B789 VH-ZND) eventually got away from Perth at 21:18 AWST, 2 minutes short of 2 hours late. Expected arrival in London is 07:34 GMT/Z Wednesday morning, which means a loss of another 31 minutes, to be 2 hrs 29 minutes late.

This delay should be able to be absorbed within the timetabled stop over with out impacting on Wednesday's QF10, however there may be remnant crew time issues, such those which seem to have affected today's QF10.

Meanwhile QF11 SYD-LAX (A380 VH-OQB) was 103 minutes late departing Sydney this morning, and is now due in Los Angeles at 07:20 PST Tuesday, 75 minutes late.

In the opposite direction QF12 LAX-SYD (A380 VH-OQK) pushed back 67 minutes late, but is estimated to make up time to be 35 minutes late into Sydney at 09:10 AEDT Wednesday.

Certainly will help that there is no QF93 on Wednesdays to allow some time to sort ZNC and get the US services back humming.

FWIW, ZNC is currently visible on FR24 at the Qantas LAX Maintenance facility, same stall as pre the QF94 cancellation.
ZNG repositioning for QF7 / QF75 maybe?

With my luck ill be on united in a fortnights time, after originally booking an A380 before they got pulled off the QF93/94 run!

Would this flight go empty?
When repositioning, yes. I wouldn't even expect they would take any freight boxes with them in the underbelly.

The gurus on here would know more, maybe some crew repositioning as well, but highly like its an empty movement for time, ease of coordination, costs etc.

Repositioned under a generic 4 digit flight number.

Under the revised timetable, this B789 MEL-SYD repositioning seems to be a regular weekly event mid morning (AEDT) on Wednesdays, & as noted above, to then operate QF7.

Thursday : this mornings QF63 SYD-JNB (B789 VH-ZNB) was 62 minutes late departing Sydney this morning, and is shown as making up a little time to arrive in Jo'burg at 15:23 SAST, 48 minutes late.

Missed a timetable change with B789 VH-ZNH operating QF11 SYD-LAX yesterday - departing about 20 minutes late, but arriving 20 minutes early - operating to A380 timings.

Meanwhile today's A380 operated QF11 is shown as delayed 130 minutes until 13:30 AEDT, with a similar delay for the revised Los Angeles arrival.

Wednesday's QF76 YVR-SYD has been delayed 9 hrs 35 minutes to an 06:00 PST Thursday departure - new ETA into Sydney of 15:45 AEDT Friday 9 hrs 10 minutes late.

The flow on from this, is that QF63 SYD-JNB on Friday is delayed 7 hrs 40 minutes for a 17:15 AEDT Sydney departure. With a 22:15 SAST Jo'burg arrival, the return QF64 will also be delayed beyond the scheduled 16:45 SAST Friday departure, however that isn't showing up yet.

Strom creating havoc today for Qantas & others:

A couple of inbound examples which will create a headache in the OpsCentre:
- QF2222 WGA - SYD cancelled
- QF436 MEL - SYD cancelled
- QF68 BLR - SYD diverted to CBR (fun to get that fixed!, will the A332 be missing somewhwere else today as it only just left CBR now)
- QF738 ADL - SYD diverted to MEL
- QF527 BNE - CBR diverted to CBR
- QF1534 HBA to SYD diverted to CBR
- QF1741 MCY to SYD diverted to NTL
- QF1410 BXG to SYD diverted to CBR
- QF2624 OOM (did not even know this airport) to SYD diverted to NTL
- QF595 OOL to SYD cancelled
- QF1438 CBR to SYD cancelled
- QF2178 MIM to SYD cancelled
- QF144 AKL to SYD delayed (but in the air)
- QF644 PER to SYD diverted to MEL
- QF2016 BHQ to SYD cancelled
- QF2067 BNK to SYD cancelled
- QF2167 PQQ to SYD cancelled
- QF1460 CBR to SYD cancelled
- QF2007 TMW to SYD cancelled
- QF2031 WGA to SYD cancelled
- lots of flights scheduled to land between 1430 and 1500 landed about 2 hours late, and flights between 1500 and 1700 are landing now or in the next 1 - 2 hours.

Notable intl. outbound delays out of SYD:
- QF19 SYD to MNL, left 4 hours late
- QF81 SYD to SIN, left almost 5 hours late
- QF41 SYD to CGK seem cancelled?
- QF43 SYD to DPS, delayed to 1750
- QF1 SYD to SIN and then onwards to LHR, delayed to 1915

Looks stressful! I hope that the lounges had enough stock, and that the CBR newsagent had a good sales day!

Thursday : QF7 SYD-DFW (B789 VH-ZNA) departed Sydney at 21:01 AEDT, 141 minutes late. Expected arrival in Dallas has been amended to 17:37 CST, 112 minutes late. The return QF8 is currently shown as delayed 150 minutes.

Looks like QF552 (VH-VDY) SYD to BNE might have gotten a curfew dispensation, seems to be rolling slowly to runway. I don't think that this is a cargo flight?

QF486 (VH-VXP) MEL to SYD just landing now, and QF1454 (VH-TQZ) CBR to SYD also still out.

I am not there but presumably there has been fog in MEL on Friday 10 February 2023's morning as two NZ flights looks to be diverting to SYD.

QF401, first of the morning at 0600 hours from SYD down to MEL took off at 0701, about 45 minutes late, with A332 VH-EBM. It held in the usual positrion above Mt Buller with arrival suggested at gate at about 0841 hours, 66 minutes late, so even with the padded timetable, it will have lost further time en route.

Class leader A332 VH-EBA is on the 0700 hours SYD-MEL (QF409) that was in the sky at 0742, about 25 late, and has a revised gate arrival time of 0908 hours, 33 minutes late.

On top of yesterday's diversions and cancellations, it'll make for another 'fun' day although not quite travellers' definition of that word.

A332 VH-EBM on yesterday's QF68 that was meant to arrive in SYD at 1040 hours finally arrived at 1746 hours, 426 minutes late after (as noted above) diverting to CBR. Aircraft was A332 VH-EBM.

Probably at least partly due to yesterday's SYD storms, A332 VH-EBQ on Thursday 9's 1225 hours SYD-MNL did not become airborne until 1628 hours, arriving at gate at 2059 hours, 269 minutes behind schedule. QF20, the 1920 hours, took off from MNL at 2255 so this morning SYD at gate time becomes an estimated 0939 hours, 204 late. QF19/QF20 have had shocking unpunctuality in the last few weeks: far too often, at least an hour late with weather not always the cause it would seem.

Long flight, the B789-operated QF63 (0935 hours SYD-JNB) is badly delayed today with pushback not expected until 1715 hours, 460 minutes late. This is the unfortunate length of delay where in JNB it's probably not worth QAN popping passengers into hotels as by the time the buses transport them, and coming back pick them up hours before the revised later departure, there's not much time that could be spent in a room.

Also yesterday (Thursday 9), the 1230 hours SYD-SIN (A332 VH-EBP) was not in the sky until 1717, so even worse than QF19. 'The 81' arrived SIN at 2150 hours, 240 minutes late and formed the 1`920 hours from SIN back down to BNE, QF52, taking off at 2352 hours ()252 AEDT 10 February).
BNE arrival is suggested at gate at 0913 hours, 248 minutes tardy.

A333 VH-QPJ on QF42 from CGK to SYD is predicted to arrive this morning at 0909 hours, 179 minutes late as yesterday the 1355 hours from SYD (QF41) was not airborne until 1732, arriving Jakarta at 2021 hours local time, 171 late.

One further delay on Thursday 9 was QF1, the 1705 hours SYD-SIN-LHR long haul that saw A388 VH-OQK airborne at 2038 hours, about 185 minutes late. It arrived SIN at 0103 hours this morning, 173 minutes behind schedule and took off at 0305 hours. LHR arrival is still hours off but the estimate is 0845, 150 minutes behind schedule.

On Friday 10, VH-OQD on QF2 from SIN and LHR arrived at its SYD gate at 0705, 55 late.

The next QF2 has OQH that should arrive SIN early this evening bang on 1800 hours, half an hour late, again making a SYD arrival within the 15 minutes 'on time' definition unlikely.
