Qantas Delays/Cancellations

not ideal but JQ would have at least connected pax onto QF1 in time
Yeah there were a heap of options that would have got pax to London much closer to schedule (or straight to their other EU destination if travelling beyond LHR) but instead they’ve all been stuck in SIN.

On Tuesday 27 June 2023, although A332 VH-EBO on the SYD-MNL QF19 arrived only five minutes late at 1835, the return redeye, QF20, did not take off until 0016 this morning (Wednesday 28), so arrival in SYD should be 0933 hours, 173 minutes late. whughes3 (frequent traveller on this route) mentioned a couple of days ago there'd been electrical storms at night, and a media report said whenever there's a threat of lightning, operations at MNL NAIA (airport) cease, so this "may" be the cause.

Also on Wednesday, B789 VH-ZNB on the Tuesday FCO down to PER seasonal flight should arrive at about 0904 hours, 34 minutes late. The 1000 hours schedule second sector across to SYD is predicted to depart at 1050.

Some updates

Some pax got hotel at SIN, some didnt (Assume based on CIP/status)

Most are on either QF tonight or EK via DXB to final destination this evening (so effectively 24hrs late arriving)

A very few got put on SQ meaning a ~4pm London arrival instead of 6am. But at least they get to arrive same day.

Provided there are empty hotel rooms (hard to imagine every establishment is full), every traveller delayed more than eight hours ought have been given an hotel room. Very poor. High fares add to the rationale to provide this.

On Wednesday 28 June 2023, flagship QF1, the 1510 hours SYD-SIN-LHR A388 is delayed to an expected 1900 hours in its initial pushback. SIN departure on early Thursday 29 morning is proposed for 0250 hours.

Earlier, QF67 (A332 VH-EBP), the 0905 hours SYD-BLR was in the sky at 0958 with predicted gate arrival as 1716 hours, 56 minutes late.

Sister VH-EBR (the 2015 hours mid evening SIN down to MEL) took off this morning at 0657 hours, so arrival should be shortly at 1520, 580 minutes late. This was because 'the 35' was extremely delayed yesterday, as noted above.

B738 VH-VZX on the 0850 hours morning SYD-AKL took off at 0958 hours, arriving at 1503 hours, 68 behind.

B789 VH-ZNA on the 1540 hours Wednesday 28 June QF7 from SYD to DFW just took off at 1725 hours, so estimated same day gate arrival becomes 1646 hours, 41 late.

ZNC on the 27 June QF10 didn't take off from London Heathrow until 1306 hours, 71 minutes after timetabled departure, so today it was in PER from 1225 hours (45 minutes tardy) to takeoff at 1429, meaning arrival in MEL at 1936 hours, 56 minutes past what the timetable suggests.

QF2 (A388 VH-OQG) should arrive in SIN tonight 38 minutes late at 1808 hours, but may still be punctual arriving in SYD tomorrow morning if all goes well.

QF1 on 28 June took off at 1915, just under four hours late. Given that QFi was able to forecast departure at 1900, it may have been a lack of qualified crew problem.

SIN gate arrival should be about 0117 hours, 227 minutes behind schedule. This may mean a (local time) LHR arrival tomorrow at around 1000 hours.

28 June's MEL-LAX QF93 is estimated to depart 45 late at 2105 hours mid evening due to the late QF10.

Ironic given delay yesterday as the QF35 pax would have made the connection if QF1 had been similarly delayed yesterday.

I imagine those connecting onto todays QF1 after missing yesterdays in SIN won’t be amused with another delay….

The nbadly delayed QF1 (A388 VH-OQJ) was in SIN on Thursday 29 June from 0115 hours (225 minutes late) until takeoff at the uncomfortable hour of 0337. LHR arrival at this stage is suggested as 0949 hours, 194 minutes late, but observation of similar late flights has sometimes seen a last minute holding pattern, with a small further delay in LHR airspace.

A388 VH-OQL arrived as QF94 from LAX in MEL this morning at 0736 hours, 51 minutes late. 'The 12' on the LAX to SYD long route has OQB with an 0858 hours arrival at gate indicated, which would be 73 minutes behind schedule.

The LHR-PER QF10 (B789 VH-ZNE) is again late, being predicted to arrive in PER today at 1225 hours, 45 behind as yesterday, it took off 61 minutes after the timetabled pushback of 1155 hours. Last night, colleague ZNC on the second '10' sectopr arrived in MEL at 1944, 64 behind; today, unusually, the PER-MEL run is cancelled. Normally QFi uses an A332 or similar when the B789 is to be sent straight back to LHR from Perth.

A333 VH-QPG was tardy on yesterday's SYD-BKK QF23, arriving at 1833 hours, 113 minutes late, so its return as the 1810 hours ex BKK QF24 saw lift off at 2101 hours mid evening, with the objective being SYD gate arrival at around 0814 hours, 109 late on Thursday 29.

A332 VH-EBP is on QF68, the BLR down to SYD redeye that should pull in to its gate this morning 36 late at 1041 hours.

As a result of QF8 being cancelled, tomorrow’s QF7 is cancelled too.
Yes - there were some very disgruntled pax at the check-in earlier today who did apparently not know about it.

Lounge dragon just announced that QF19 to MNL has engineering issues and boarding is delayed to unknown time.

On Thursday 29 June 2023, QF1 (1510 hours ex SYD) is again delayed, this time to an expected 1700 hours pushback.

Yesterday it was four hours late.

Shambolic, yet this is the company's "flagship" offering.

Lounge dragon just announced that QF19 to MNL has engineering issues and boarding is delayed to unknown time.

It was airborne at 1336 hours on 29 June, with MNL gate arrival suggested as 48 minutes late at 1938 hours. This will in turn delay 'the 20, the scheduled 2035 hours redeye back down to Sydney.

Earlier today (Thursday 29 June 2023), QF69 (0925 hours day flight MEL-DEL, A332 VH-EBS) was delayed (as this flight often is), taking off at 1050 hours with arrival at gate likely at 1850, 70 late. The return (redeye) flight may gain time due to favourable winds, but will definitely depart late.

EBS had been in Melbourne for the night, so unsure why the delay. Was it crew related, or waiting connecting passengers (and their luggage)?

Indeed.

They don't seem to be getting any better, either.

To be fair, it varies by day, but as a general comment, at present 'the 1' seems worse than the return '2', as the latter recently has often arrived in SYD around its 0510 hours scheduled time.

If you went back through these pages, it's not as if QF1 has been a star performer since COVID finished being of concern to we non nursing-home residents.

Amazingly, foreign-domiciled competitors on their local version of the Kangaroo Route can frequently or consistently be on time or extremely close to that. QFi cannot achieve this.

Pilots and other staff are used to delays, but it must be frustrating for them, and hardly ideal given their bodies deal constantly with time zone changes (albeit not as bad as on USA and Canada routes,).

Continuing with 29 June 2023, A333 VH-QPA came in to DSYD tonight as QF104 (ex HNL) at 1922 hours, 42 minute sbehind schedule.

It formed QF25, the 2020 hours to HND that was airborne at 2137 hours. Predicted at gate arrival on Friday 30 is 0610 hours, 45 late.

QF have cancelled at least 4 CBR-SYD flights this morning. (At least one VA as well).
The screens are saying air congestion in SYD.

Lounge staff also just offered to move me to an earlier flight. 🤷‍♀️

Staff just gave me new boarding pass (717 instead of dash8 😁), said SYD is on 1 runway

They put me on 1502, which was meant to depart before I got to the airport

Himeno, it's our old friend the east-west runway as the sole one in use. NSW TrainLink's comfortable XPlorer railcars would have been quicker!

In SYD, being school hols already in Victoria and starting in NSW this weekend IIRC, it'll be busy. QF2038, the 0845 hours SYD up to DBO is as at 0935 not far from taking off, so Q400 VH-QOD should be more than half an hour late arriving.

QF591 (0700 hours OOL down to SYD, B738 VH-VYF) did not take off until 0814, possibly due to the runway situation, and is arriving at 0941 hours, 71 minutes late.
