Many of us think we know the answer to that...I was supposed to be on QF37 today MEL-SIN, the second daily flight between the two airports. It's been cancelled today, about 7 hrs out from departure.
Saturday: QF37 cancelled
Sunday: only ever had QF35 scheduled
Monday: QF35 cancelled
Tuesday: QF37 cancelled
Hmmm ... bad luck or bad management?
Many of us think we know the answer to that...
As has been well documented, they have too few aircraft for the flying schedule, much of the fleet is elderly, there's a lack of engineering manpower in Australia and there's also the sticky rumour that they drew down their spare parts inventory too aggressively during covid to make the financials look better.
Anecdotally, international seems to be getting worse, not better.
I think your experience probably isn’t that different to many of us! If I were to hazard a guess, fewer than 10% of my QF flights in the last two years have been on time but I’ve been luckier with cancellations than you.Since COVID, I've actually only booked 4 QF flights. Have had a 75 % cancellation rate! First was QF 35, Apr 2022, cancelled a few weeks in advance, but thanks to ExpertFlyer and seeing flight was zeroed out, I had already rebooked on SQ, SYD-SIN with a QF award flight from MEL-SYD, which in turn was cancelled and I was rebooked 30 mins later, turned out OK. Then today. The only one that went ahead was part of an award ticket 3K-QF-JQ, SIN-DPS-SYD-MEL.
My partner has fared better out of 3 bookings, only 2 were cancelled.
Over the same period I've taken about 20 SQ flights, none cancelled and only 1 that was late - by about 45 mins.
Me and QF just don't get along.
I am due to fly on the QF35 on Sunday, fingers crossed whatever is going on is sorted soon!I was supposed to be on QF37 today MEL-SIN, the second daily flight between the two airports. It's been cancelled today, about 7 hrs out from departure.

It is the same aircraft, so the QF36 will be delayed.Anyone have any idea what the incoming plane is for the QF36 from SIN to MEL ? I see the QF35 MEL to SIN is delayed and fear this may impact the QF36?
Still no notification of any delay so maybe they have another aircraft. Fingers crossedIt is the same aircraft, so the QF36 will be delayed.
According to FR24, EBB, which is arriving in 1/2 hour as QF83 from SYD, will be operating QF36 tonight, so looks like you will be right.Still no notification of any delay so maybe they have another aircraft. Fingers crossed
Makes you wonder if it was less work to move the QF37 pax as opposed to the QF35 which was the actual problem but was kept alive and depart at the QF37 time. How far out was the 5hr delay known?Today's QF37 cancelled, pax rebooked onto QF35 which has been delayed by 5 hours (essentially making it leave and arrive at the same time as 37 would've).
I think the delay & cancellation both happened around the same time, at midnight. I agree it seems like it'd make more sense to cancel QF35 instead.Makes you wonder if it was less work to move the QF37 pax as opposed to the QF35 which was the actual problem but was kept alive and depart at the QF37 time.
