Qantas domestic economy meals

My friends Shepard’s pie. Greasy but not bad. Later in the flight he also got cheese and crackers and a Kit Kat.

My vegan meal - Channa Masala and beans Foogath. The beans were flavourless but the chickpeas were delicious, very spicy though.

Aswell as (below) about an hour before landing.

I should note the vegan meal was considerably bigger then the other meal. The cardboard box was about the size of my iPhone 14 while the vegan was the “standard,” size.

Funny thing is if you combine the length of those three rolls, you'd get a roll that beats quite a few sold in convenience stores, petrol stations and even some bakeries.
Fair enough except for the bite size-iness of this eaten in the air.

QF922 SYD-CNS 28th December - sausage rolls and soft drink / tea or coffee only

QF927 CNS-SYD 1st January - warm Portuguese Chicken Ciabatta which was quite tasty + softdrink/wine/beer/coffee/tea and then later offered a Christmas Chocolate. As flight was only about 70% full I got two shadows (i.e. Row 6 a-C to myself) and there were left over meals so they came through asking if anyone wanted a second ciabatta.

But after that plunged the cabin into darkness, so much so I could not see what the chocolate was they were offering.

Overhead reading light?

I did end up turning that on after I'd blindly taken the chocolate. As i was using my tablet I didnt have the light on before hand, as was also enjoying the spectacular lightning show out the window.

Crew also never came back through to collect cans/cups; and when I tried to give rubbish to FA she said of just shove it in the seat back. Guess being last flight for that aircraft of the day they figured the cleaners would sort it.

For those wondering if there is a difference between Qantas domestic flights that take off from the domestic terminal versus those that take off from the international terminal, I flew QF9 yesterday from Melbourne to Perth on a 787 in economy. Here was the menu presented on screen:

About 15 minutes after take off flight attendant came by with water and crackers/cheese:

About an hour in meal service was offered, I chose the chicken which wasn't too bad. Additionally, the booze service was a step up from domestic economy with there even being options for G&T (I had the QF Spritz):

Afterwards, crew came by with Magnum bars:

Lastly there was a coffee & tea service with Lindt chocolate:

A bit of a blink and you'll miss it difference, amazing how poor QF intl Y meals, compared to say EK

Who knows what has happened, domestic Y stepped up on the intra WA during Nov and December and now flights we had a hot snack and then hot meal we now get 4 crackers and salsa......even worse than the corn chip/salsa/nut snack pack we used to get.

Very odd and totally inconsistent of late.

Having flown on a fair amount of domestic QF Y flights including long haul to DRW and CHC ex-SYD this really takes the cake. A decent appetizer, main meal and ice cream bar to finish off. Sure you may point to ol Bling Air (Emirates) as having better catering but it’s a red herring. They generally do not operate domestic routes in Australia. Hence we must compare it to the domestic competitors like Virgin, Rex and JetStar. I would argue that the service on QF9 was a cut above

Now some may rightly argue about whether my post is appropriate for this thread. After all it is an international flight which happens to have a domestic sector. I would argue that it is appropriate for those weighing whether it is worth the hassle of departing out of the international terminal for a domestic flight. Obviously there is more that must be factored in here such as whether you have access to the Flounge and whether the other amenities provided in flight are better than flying domestic (generally) narrowbody

QF772 PER-MEL 10:15am departure. Pasta with pork (not sure I saw any pork in it) or a cold chicken tabouleh salad. Pasta dish was edible at least.

The presentation of the Y Pasta dishes may not look too flash, but have to agree from my recent flight it is edible complimented with Water and a Chocolate piece.

Mid morning departure PER-SYD. Lunch service. Some beef or a Japanese rice and chicken salad option. Looks as appetising as the business class slop was was relatively edible and tasting, if a little salty. Beans were cooked to perfection.

Late night flight QF498 from MEL - SYD. Only option available was an Mediterranean vegetable pizza slice. Passengers who rejected were offered rice crackers as an alternative.
Seconds were offered by the crew on their way back to the galley.

Pizza tasted rather bland and salty, however was appreciative that had something bit more substantial than a crackers/dip as on my previous Qantas flight.

Standard soft drinks/juice/alcohol was provided with the meal, however no tea/coffee service was provided (only x4 crew with only x2 working in Y). I wish a small chocolate was provided with the meal as a small desert.

Hoping 2024 gets better with the Y domestic food service offering.

24FEB CBR-BNE QF1910 - Crackers and Cheese (with mould) :(

The best before date not clearly visible in the packaging. The year reads *2024*, but not sure what month. So chances are the cheese is past it's best before date.

Complaint lodged with QF. Not sure if I will hear back.

I love this crackers & cheese, but it is safe to check before consuming.

Did you tell the crew? Likely the seal had been broken or cheese had been incorrectly stored somewhere warm.

I didn't notice it until I checked into my hotel room. I had eaten lunch in the lounge, so didn't feel snacking.
