Qantas domestic economy meals

QF0440 MEL-SYD on Monday 8/4. A330-200
Lunchtime flight so fittingly we got a sandwich... Sorry, 2/3 of a sandwich. (What they did with the other third I don't know). Overall roast beef, caramelised onions and cream cheese are a pretty good combo, but I wouldn't have minded the missing third

Yep, definitely snacks - not meals.

Those mini pies are tasty however, if they are ever served I grab them. Those pizza slices are usually scorching hot and vegetarian, I hate but the missus loves them (being vego)

My wife and I recently returned from a great short trip to the NT. Flights to and from DRW were full service with meal and drinks shortly after takeoff then snacks and another round of drinks prior to landing.
As we enjoyed the NT I thought we could potentially next do Broome. I noticed the SYD to BME flights (which are over 5hrs) only show the sign for snacks, not meal service. Is this right?!?!? Is there not a set flight duration where meals are provided?
Has anyone else recently done the direct flights from the East Coast to BME? What was the service like?

Followed by today's return flight on Dash 8 - cheese and chive sandwich (or as noted above 2/3 sandwich). Odd combination with grated I assume cheese in mayo with chives. At least the bread was freshly defrosted and nice and soft. Cold drink service.
Had an aborted landing as the wind was too strong so it was power up and go round again.

Not a phrase I would ever think of using. But then, on a Dash 8 you are thankful what you are given (says someone who has done a gazillion runs on Dash 8s)
Most/all of the food has been chilled/frozen - sometimes defrosted long before the flight and if a sandwich, the bread is dry. This was at least soft and moist.

My flight from ADL to BNE yesterday morning was definitely a snack, a tiny little tea cake.
I expect that sort of snack on the Dash 8 to regional centres.
On the way down the day before it was more substantial, the brioche scrambled egg number, but it is near inedible that one.

Recently flew BNE-ADL and returned a couple of days later. On the way down had a snack of 3 crackers with French onion dip and on the way back 5 rice crackers and 5 small slices of cheese. Disappointing on a 2hr+ flight.
Both flights were 4 pm ish, I was hoping for something hot.

If you think they are really bad in economy, they're also often terrible in Business Class particularly the shorter flights like SYD-MEL.

They're also wanting on International trips. The trip home from either Jakarta or Bali offers a "breakfast". A choice between a muffin or muesli for breakfast in Business Class is most unsatisfactory.
