Qantas domestic economy meals

hey all, apologies for asking here, but is there a thread for international economy meals? Otherwise I can just post my recent pics here.

BNE-DRW return had fairly substantial hot meals in both directions (late evening/lunch respectively). Not going to win any awards but was certainly edible and filling enough.

Lindt Lindor ball for desert - first time I've seen a selection on QF, normally they just have the original reds ones but we had a choice of four.

Was actually surprised by the BNE J lounge this time - hot dish was advertised as vegetarian tofu noodles which I initially passed on - until I saw later it was chock full of beef. Turns out it was beef & black bean, and unusual for this lounge, it was very much loaded up with beef.

I popped in on arrival on my return and the dish (can't remember what) was also very meat heavy. Hopefully we've turned a corner here with the BNE J lounge.
Just shows how many cutbacks have been made. Used to be a nice icecream just before landing into DRW from the east coast flights.

I can’t find one (that’s still open), so feel free to start a new thread otherwise you’ll make this one OT :)

Free booze now though - never got that on the DRW flights before.

Overall much better.

Even one beer/wine costs more than the mini magnums they used to hand out.

Yep - feel free to start a new thread called "Qantas international economy meals" @JasonK :)

QF939 BNE-PER 21st May 737

Consigned to steerage this evening after failing to get the points upgrade on a Sun pm BNE-PER for the first time in living memory. Obviously a function of the only offering on this route continuing to be narrowbodies only, a problem which the very friendly lounge attendant apologetically admitted has no end in sight as far as she knew :(

Still row 4 is not much of a loss hard product-wise on these small conveyances, even if I struck out on a "neighbour free" 4E on this completely full flight (it seems that "shadow" is so 2022).

Great service by FA Vanessa, had the shepherds pie which had enough meat in it even if the serving was only entree size, more suited to a MEL-SYD hop than a medium haul flight that would be Int in most parts of the world. Very glad that arrivals lounge access for WPs hasn't been enhanced (yet) and that I was able to supplement this with some pizza on getting to PER. Got a single Lindt ball at the top of descent, but otherwise no dessert.

Washed down with a mini bottle of Glenlofty shiraz, which comes from west of Maryborough in Victoria. Fairly one dimensional but pleasantly drinkable.

The other offering was a chicken salad of some sort.

ADL-DRW (Alliance) Shepards pie was the only option after take off followed by cheese and crackers before landing. A bottle of water in between. Serve of Shepards pie was half the size of the pre-Covid dinner boxes you got on MEL-SYD. Wouldn’t really say it was a full service airline offering…

Was served these disgusting 'bolognese bites'. Chewy dough with a thin slather of tomato sauce. I am usually one to finish a meal even if it is mediocre but these were terrible. What ever happened to the chicken pies they used to serve on this route?

Kosher meal ADL-PER on Saturday. To be honest, not great. While plenty of quality chicken pieces, it was a bit dry. Veggies were cooked well (ie not mush). Cake (top left) was moist and tasty. To the right of that was grapefruit and orange segments cut-up. Then empty container on the right was a salad.

This is more food than you'd receive in J! :o

For the record, I don't keep kosher. I just want a decent size meal and meat that isn't the worst cuts sometimes.

anyone know what the Y meal is likely to be SYD-PER (midday departure) or PER-SYD (also a midday departure) ? Will there be a choice in Y? On shorter routes recently there has been no choice and not really a meal just a snack.

There's usually a choice of two meals (maybe sometimes three?). It's always a hot meal (some kind of slop) and a cold option (a salad usually with a grain and sometimes a protein).

We had a passable shepherds pie on BNE-PER 2 weeks ago ( presumably similar catering ex SYD) but the portion size was way to small for a 4+ hr flight. Recommend supplementing with lounge food if you can!

That is the plan especially since my Mum is a fussy eater - we plan to make toasties in the lounge and bring on board just in case.

Only white chocolate cookies offered on 10:15 SYD-OOL this morning, i passed as tried them in April and pure sugar. Wish they have a savoury option even pretzels.

7:00 OOL-SYD a small quiche lorraine was tasty enough.

Id already had bacon on toast and a barista coffee in the GC QPub. Was happy to see bacon as neither the SYD Domestic QPub or SYD Domestic J Lounge ever have bacon. QPub SYD has no hot breakfast offering other than a DIY toastie, J Lounge always has bland chicken sausages.

QF470 MEL-SYD: Chicken, cheese and caramelised onion panini

There's a lot of tiktok/youtube short videos "Tell me you're x without telling me you're x"

Looking at a lot of these photo's is the case of someone challenging Qantas to "tell me you don't want to provide catering, without telling me you don't want to provide catering"? 🤣

Very true…JQs catering looks so appealing in comparison (yes you have to pay extra)
