Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Food on the MEL-AKL flight.

Duck salad. Totally devoid of taste. Didn’t help that it was left on the trolley and forgotten by my FA until after some mains started being served and I raised a polite query. To be fair the crew were excellent and other than this lapse (which came with genuine apologies) service was very good.

The fish was superb. Great piece of fish, nicely cooked and very tasty.

And the usual very average cheese plate.

So not entirely sure why, but the OZ to NZ and East/West menus were held back from the change that happened earlier in the year. But good news, on 15th June OZ to NZ and East/West has a menu change.

QF1756 CNS/BNE 13/6 5pm departure

Waygu beef steak with mash or duck salad
Was reasonably tender for an aeroplane steak
No pre meal drink from bar with those pretzels. (Not sure if pretzels are still served as I haven't flown QF in many months).

The dumplings were delicious

So was the Humpty Doo Barra

The mousse was a massive portion and unpleasant.... it went back after the first spoon.

All washed down with Duval, Giant Steps Chardy, and Noble One sticky.

A “new” but same old poor trans-Tasman menu ex-AKL.

The salmon is nice.

But mains options are horrid. I’ve seen the salad and the multigrain sandwich. Look poor. I reluctantly took the beef again. Same result - pretty tough, overcooked and tasteless. Fortunately I had eaten some (very nice) chicken in the lounge beforehand so just left most of it with a polite bit of feedback to the FA.

Cheese ex-NZ is ok.

No pre-meal drink service. But service overall was very good. J cabin was full but most around me were travelling staff.

Shock! A “new” east-west trans-con menu (dated Mar 19) a few nights ago, SYD-PER.

Not actually that different at all. But the chicken Kiev appealed.

But no. FA came around saying the menu was wrong. No chicken Kiev. In fact it’s a really lovely roast chicken with eggplant blah blah blah blah.

Just when I thought QF catering couldn’t be any worse. What a fail.

QF catering is plummeting bad... I love the service mostly, but sadly my strategy when flying to NZ now is to eat at the lounge in Melbourne. Ex AKL can be difficult if you are left with the really sad AKL QF lounge. It's days like these when I miss EK trans tasman :(

I must say my last couple of meals on QF domestic J have been mostly underwhelming and quite average but on a recent QF SYD-CGK flight in Y, I had close to the best Y meal on any flight ever and was actually far better than several QF J meals

Exact same menu PER- SYD redeye a couple of nights ago.

But this time the crew were amazing. Lead by Rob the CSM. Took the delay at the gate (due to avoiding arriving in the SYD area while still under curfew) to explain what was on offer (not much) but also ask everyone if they wanted to be woken 1 hour out for breakfast.

I had a drink after takeoff and asked for a cup of soup. No problem, what type of cup (large cardboard or regular ceramic). After it was provided another staffer came round to see if ok and would I prefer it in a small bowl. Two drink top ups also provided.

While lights went out reasonably quickly the staff made regular walk-throughs of the cabin. Quietly, just making eye contact to see if anything was needed. Good stuff.

Cabin stayed dark until 20 minutes out. Probably helped by a slow, smooth descent that actually saw us circle over Canberra before heading to SYD.

I did EK CHC-SYD last week and the catering was actually really average. Three options were beef with potato gratin, ling fillet fish or chicken with gnocchi and green pea mush.
They were out of the beef by the time they got to me so I chose the chicken. The chicken was dry and tasteless and the gnocchi and pea mush was horrible. Cheese platter was also average and drink service was inconsistent. Seems EK ran out of many people's first choices, including dessert.

It looks like the menu team rolled out their changes without telling the catering team. The "new" menu is identical to the old one you just posted except the old one has the chicken with eggplant that's being served with the "new" menu. :D

Finally (for me) a different menu, though one that has been posted here before. AKL-SYD 15:45 flight, A330.

My order taken first while still on the ground by Courtney who I have flown with many times. Christian the CSM was also excellent and the service was generally superb on this trip. I asked if a pre-meal drinks run would be done and told yes. I then heard the FAs tell all pax that would happen, and it did.

Cup of soup and (yet more) mozzarella to start.

The salad was an odd combination and pretty tasteless.

None of the mains really appealed but based on the feedback from others in this thread I went with the beef salad.

Massive serve, and was quite tasty. But still not really a great J meal in my opinion.

I have also enjoyed the Giesen small batch Pinot Noir on my last couple of flights. I usually prefer peppery pinots but this one is very fruity and rather nice.

Finished with the usual cheese plate which was good. Alternative was a spiced apple ice cream (huh?).
