unlikely to be random.
could be simple alphabetical from the wide distribution of this email.

Re: Qantas Double Status credits

No joy for me. SG, member since 95. The only offers I have ever recieved have been the HKG double SC promo. I already have about 20 Mel-Syd return flights booked over the next six months - red-e deals as it comes out of my own pocket, so my guess is that any profiling is picking up that i am rarely paying full fare! Hoping i can get a double sc promotion late in the year or early next for a SC run to retain SG or at a stretch push for WP (taking Mum to London next year and some flounging would be nice for her).

Re: Qantas Double Status credits

ok, for a data point, I got the offer. Did not get the last one, but got the one before that. I have done 1 paid flight on Qantas (MEL-SYD) in the last 2 years!

Re: Qantas Double Status credits

Another data point - I am SG and got the offer. This is the first targeted double SC offer I have received for many years.

Re: Qantas Double Status credits

I would not be so sure. I think ultimately Qantas will never let on exactly what their method is because it is commercially sensitive. But there are valid reasons why you would offer it random. One would be that they are undertaking some form of A/B testing to see how well it does. During the promotion period they may see an increase in fares booked, but is that due to the promotion? or some other factor like an upswing in the economy or some other promotion?

So to know for sure you do A/B testing. You choose two groups of frequent flyer at random, the two groups don't necessarily have to be the same size. One group you give the double status credit offer to, the other group you use as a control and don't give the offer. Then at the end you compare the two groups, did the group who got the offer actually increase their spend over the control group?

... but why leave WP1 out?

My teenage son who has never flown QF and obviously has no status received the double SC offer. He only joined QFF 6 weeks ago as a result of the EDR free sign up.

I'm trying to book a couple of flights on the Qantas site.
One is from Brisbane to LAX, I want to fly Premium Economy and take my chances with a points upgrade request to Business class.
That is easy to book .
The next flight is from LAX to Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
I want to fly First Class to Fort Lauderdale.
That is hard to book, I haven't worked it out.
I want to have Qantas tickets so I can take advantage of the double SC offer.
The Qantas site does not seem to have a way to change from Premium Economy to First Class for the Fort Lauderdale leg
Does anyone know how to do this?
Cheers.

Hi Klavdy,

I've been in this situation and it seems like you can't book a ticket in First via Qantas.com to fly on AA metal LAX-FLL, even if it is a CS flight. I've booked First via AA.com flying DCA-MIA for example, quoting QF FF number, and was credited something ridiculous like 90 SCs in my account (from memory). However booking via AA.com meant that the SCs were not from an "eligible flight counting towards attain/retain" (hence no ~ next to the SCs in my activity statement). Nevertheless, RedRoo and her colleagues included these non-eligible SCs to give me a discretionary WP retain I believe (my eligible SCs didnt meet retain, but I was close).

Long and the short of it, I don't know if there is a way to take advantage of the double SCs by booking an AA sector in First - you would have to book through AA.com to get the seat in First I believe. As others have noted the prices for First in AA can be very competitive, (especially for the Instant Upgrade option if you can find it), and particularly if you are prepared to make a stop on the way e.g. DFW or ATL. Beats flying AA economy across the U.S. any day (I feel your pain) even if you can't get double SCs.

Anyone else know of a way to help Klavdy? I would be very interested too!

Cheers,

LFF

Any AA status credit is eligible towards status accrual on QF and it doesn't matter where you book it - aa.com, QF.com or anywhere else. However, if you don't have four qantas flights then you cannot earn or maintain status, regardless of how many other SCs you have (obviously exceptions are made as you found out in your case). '~' can only be earned on eligible QF/JQ flights.

The only way i can think to include the Qantas flight number on the AA leg in F is to book it through an agent... but it won't be eligible for the instant upgrade fare I wouldn't think. you'd be buying a standard F ticket if you could do it. That could be quite expensive.

Re: Qantas double SCs -how to book connecting AA sector in AA First & get double SCs?

Thanks everyone,
Yep, it's the A.A 'Instant Upgrade" fares I'm after.
You can book economy, premium economy and business on the Qantas site,A.A's flight numbers come up for the American domestic legs, it just doesn't seem that you can change the class for the different legs, ie from discount economy on the BNE to LAX to instant upgrade first on the LAX to FLL leg.
It looks cheaper to fly LAX to TPA (Tampa)for the same SC's but you can't get there and back in a day.
You can red eye it from LAX to FLL and be back by lunchtime.
Hmmm.

Re: Qantas double SCs -how to book connecting AA sector in AA First & get double SCs?

Email received. Already have some flights booked, hopefully some work travel comes off as planned, could see me hit P1 sooner than I'd planned :)

Are you tyring to take advantage of the double SC offer by booking QF flight numbers?

Are you tyring to take advantage of the double SC offer by booking QF flight numbers?

Hiya Serfty,
Yes my friend, I am trying to maximise the benefit so graciously offered by Qantas by booking QF numbers on the flight from LAX to FLL.
Your input would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Qantas double SCs -how to book connecting AA sector in AA First & get double SCs?

In regards to QF flight numbers on AA first - they don't happen with 2 class flights as QF books into business class and generally costs far more than buying AA ...
