Qantas DSC October 2024 Offer - book by 31/10/24 & fly 1/11/24-19/10/25

I was also having issues using it. It worked smoothly for one trip but not for another. It was only after the price went up by ~$300 did it start working again (hmm, suspicious).

2 silly questions:
1) All flights booked via the Multi-city tool, when it decides to work, should be subject to the DSCs and not just the one-way/return flights?
2) Even though the number of SCs that show up prior to payment is the standard amount, the DSCs should come through as a separate transaction?
(This is the first time that I've purchased flights during a DSC sale - I'm trying to make sure that I'm not making any assumptions. I'm excited and am hoping for the best once the flights occur next year - I should have enough to almost get me to WP.)

Well, they got me.

I've wanted to see more of the South Pacific and while I haven't gotten particularly serious about it, yesterday I found flights from SYD to Samoa (via BNE), Tonga (nonstop), and Vanuatu (via BNE) priced around ~$2000 in J (Y was pricing at the ~$1000 mark). We spent the evening researching and settled on Samoa. (Norfolk Island also came in at $1500 with Y at $1000, so that's also excellent value, but we've been there [loved it].)

I didn't expect to book during this promo as I don't personally get enough value out of my status to see the logic in spending money I wouldn't otherwise spend for SC runs, repositioning, etc., and I didn't find fares on other potential trips I have coming up compelling enough to pay such a high premium all to guarantee my ability to maintain SG status, but this struck me as a genuinely reasonable fare to somewhere I actually want to go, and the DSC promotion did manage to get me to bite.

480 SCs for $2023 = $4.21 per SC. Not the best but also not the worst value as seen on this thread, and an interesting option for anyone based in SYD who actually wants to visit some of our Pacific Island friends. I'll also be locked in for Gold through May 2027, while still able to remain a free agent for larger, more expensive trips.

$4.21 per SC for a tropical island holiday destination is quite acceptable in my opinion - better than say $3.80 per SC for an overnight stay at Auckland airport.

I'm really just referring to the ability to use the Qantas website as you could before to build a multi city same day classic flight reward that prices as a single award rather than individual ones. It is absolutely nothing to do with having a good travel agent.
(I have been one and still have gds access if I need it)

This could be useful on double SC for points club members

You could call them and they could do it. Waive the fee due to not being able to do so online.

Man I've tried staying at the AKL airport last time I did a status run - had back problems for a week or two later - getting a hotel might be worth it if you don't want your body to disintegrate (not that you're already doing in the air!). It does add a bit to the overall $/SC but took advantage of some CC's travel credits and whatever accom near the airport using Qantas Hotel to get that extra points promo!

Can anyone tell me how you book a QANTAS flight with a domestic connection to New Zealand or Indonesia? Whenever I've tried to do this in the last year, the cost presented has been exorbitant. There is an example fare in the AFF news article, but how do I access that?

Also, is it possible to book a status run originating in Asia? E.g. Indonesia. I found that sales aren't offered if your flight doesn't originate from Australia.

Is it confirmed that Points Club SCs earned on Award flights qualify for DSCs? I couldn't find anything specifically about PC/PC+ in the terms and conditions.

They've previously posted for me as DSCs but I didn't want to assume.

I can re-qualify for platinum with a status run on Award fares, but don't want to go through the rigmarole if PC/PC+ aren't included in this promo.

But using the points, it's 8000 + $54 for 14 DSC

If I use point hack valuation at 1.9c per point, the cost of the flight is actually $209.

So buying the ticket with cash is actually better in this case.

The gap is even bigger if I assume the points are used for international Business/First class

syd-lax works out to be 4.8c in business and 8.2c in first.
So the ticket above ends up costing respectively $438 ($31.28/SC) and $710 ($50.71/SC).

There's no way for that to earn 110SC even if it got it wrong something with its multi city calculation is definitely throwing it off.

SYD - SIN in sale is 30.
HKG - SYD in sale is 30.

SIN - HKG is 40 in flex economy. Sale should almost never earn but if it does it'll be 20 i believe.

That would mean it's 100.

The only way you can get 110 is if one of your QF legs is not in sale but saver instead (40 SC) and you got a bank error claiming the CX leg and the agent didn't look carefully at your ticket (which has happened to me before).

Looks like the following happened:

• QF127 SYD-HKG (Discounted Economy): 30SC
• CX691 HKG-SIN (Discounted Economy): 20SC
• QF292 SIN-SYD (Flexible Economy): 60SC

Didn't have to claim for the CX flight asw. It just came into the account with no strings attached.

Are you talking about a cash fare or a reward fare? If cash fare then you should get both as per Oneworld rules (except maybe Aeroflot). Cathay leg will not get the DSC, but should still get some SC for it.

Everyone puts a different value on points, personally I only redeem them for international premium cabins so I would base it off 4c a point in my calculation.

If you have a lot of points without much plan for redemption? If that's the case you could ask yourself if buying X status tier for X points presents value to you.

I would say the 1.9c a point would be a good minimum, but everyone's perspective and financial circumstances differ.

Not sure if this was answered already (but me being new) I just scrolled down to more flights until I found one that actually had a connection for domestic. The longest connection I found was like Sydney to OOL TO ADL to NZ but I think it was quite expensive
