Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

We will still be flying daily Sydney/Melbourne to London on our A380 aircraft. The flight will now be rerouted to go through Dubai as opposed to Singapore. So you will still be flying comfortably on an A380 plane with the Qantas Skybed. And get your freepyjamas.:D

Cheers, thanks for that.

I need to organise connecting flights out of LHR, hopefully QF get in touch sooner rather than later with the updated itinerary.

I think that QFF will have to be able to get SC's on EK services or else QF will lose a lot of members from places like PER where they will no longer be able to fly QF metal through to London.

As long as there are SC's available (at normal earn rates) on EK flights then this partnership will be a big win for me, and at long last I will be able to see & book travel to a lot of my destinations through the QF website rather than having to ring up QANTAS to book to places like Cairo etc, and I will earn miles all the way.

Whilst personally I have no problems transitting throuh Dxb (and have previously), I suspect a significant number of OZ passengers have no great desire to transit or in particular stopover in Dxb for various cultural reasons:shock:. These same people will have no hesitation in stopping over in Sin between Sydney / Melbourne and London to break up the long journey......I think QF will lose these pax to SQ, TG and MH.

You cannot please everyone. Maybe this change will offer an 'incentive' to fly Qantas/EK and thus also take away passengers from SQ, TG and MH

If you don't earn SCs on QF flight numbers on EK metal (and probably some EK numbers on EK metal) I will do a nudie run down 16R at Sydney

Strap some cans of VB beers under your armpits, apparently the new 4.9% alcohol content not only tastes better but gives you more lift ;)

Cultural Reasons. On face value are Malaysia, Singapore and the UAE not all Muslim countries?

Sounds like some people knocking JQ without ever stepping foot onto a JQ service...

Is it just me, or does Ben seem quite bitter today? Joyce may have made comments in 2009, but things change in time, hence why he believes the time is right to go with EK.

Will Qantas now be doing Nighties for the ladies?

Maybe they might lose a few, but at the same time I think they will probably gain more than they lose. This tie-up opens a whole bunch of European destinations that is now accessible and more importantly, allows pax' to enjoy the convenience factor - which alot of flyers like - that their competitors (eg SQ) use to have.

PrincessFiona, do you mind posting a summary of the twitter posts, d*mn work filters not allowing me to see them.

Conducting a straw poll of around 20 or so people mostly Qantas WPs who I meet with regularly, the general feeling is that this tie-up is really good news. I would estimate around a 90% positive response! Of course there is some detail to sort out but .......... it is detail.

Red Roo .... make sure you don't get any RSI from all this keyboard activity!

Convenience is something that Emirates do well with their timetables - eg depart Perth at 06:00, transit through Dubai and land in Cairo at 17:00 the same day is just awesome, and now I will be able to do it with my QF WP baggage allowances, earn miles and also hopefully SC's. Finally QF have listened and figured out that the old way of routing was no longer the best way and that this is the way forward.

Interesting brief article from Sandilands on what Joyce apparently said back in September 2009 about a Middle East relationship.

Sandilands's second last paragraph certainly leaves the reader in no two minds on his thoughts towards Joyce.

Quite frankly Ben is totally wrong.A tie up with Emirates brings a lot more to the table than a tie up with Etihad. So AJ has been proven right to have waited this time.
Etihad-85 destinations in 55 countries.61 passenger craft with 41 orders and 25 options.
Emirates-122 destinations in 74 countries.170 passenger aircraft with 218 orders and 8 343s to be retired.

So now you will be able to go around the globe earning points and SCs with only 2 stops.SYD-DFW-DXB-SYD.

- Qantas will contact you to discuss options if you have a flight affected by the changes. We will do this well before your travel date.
- We will load schedules, fares and inventory as soon as we are able. As soon as they are in, you will be able to make Classic Award bookings
- As with all our partners, you will earn SC as long as booked on QF flight numbers
the above from post #413

But I suspect in this your OneWorld partners will cease to earn flight and mileage credit on the QF flight numbers using EK metal. And the flights will not be eligible for use on the One World multi-continent tickets. The latter will affect QF FF members.

The benefits for many QF (and partner) fliers (elite or otherwise) will be the "expanded" operations from Australia to/from Asia.
Hopefully that will include daily flights to HKG from all capital cities and retention/expansion of the the SIN service. Transferring this service to JQ is not comparable. As well the change of scheduling to better support O&D flyers and inter-Asia connections (not necessarily on JQ) is a major expectation. Note: I vowed to never arrive in PER at 04:40 as the intended schedule.
