only 380 use full flat bed not on 777
Thanks mannej for the heads up, but from what I can see on both the Emirates website and the EKSource, Emirates uses the 777-300ER out of Brisbane. Both of these sources also say the lie-flat seat is available on MOST of the services operated by 777-300ERs. Seat Guru says these are the angled type, not the flat bed type. Can anyone share their experience in J on this aircraft out of Brisbane?

You mean the dot point that says aircraft will be purchased with a mix of cash and debt, LOL.

No I mean the dot point that says they are going to reduce debt. That's the one you keep ignoring. Keep going around in circles on this. But the fact remains - DEBT REDUCTION FOCUS.

Hi all.

I am new to AFF.

I am going to the F1 grand prix in Abu Darbi in late October. I will be flying Emirates. I won't be booking until mid September. Does anyone know if I will get QFF points for the trip and if so, how many SC points on discount economy?

Cheers

No. The partnership will not kick in until April 2013 if approved.

It's interesting that the only promotional video is very QF-centric. (The similar video on the media release section of the EK website is the same as the QF one, except using a female voiceover rather than a male one (which is used on QF's website and the QF-EK partnership website)).

I'm sure EK customers would like to know a lot more about how this partnership may be good for them, apart from the fact that their airline could be bound to become (one way or another) more successful (in theory).

On another note, the introduction of EK's "Platinum" tier is probably going to unsettle some in the other camp as it is. For QF's side, I would expect that the difference between WP, [email protected] and P1 as far as this partnership is concerned should be nil, or minimal at best.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if EK restricted entry to their F Lounge in DXB to F pax only. Certainly there are a few voices around who are vehemently against the idea of even allowing top tier elites (QF Platinums and the upcoming EK "Platinums") who fly Y or even J into the F Lounges.

Consider this. There are some long suffering road warriors that are constrained by being locked into preferred supplier agreements. I would presume that after this in enacted there might be a few less whingy emails from said warriors to their procurement department as they'll be suffering less connections, without even mentioning the behemoth that is Heathrow or the inferior BA service. BA service as a paid premium and elite passenger feels more JQ than 'to fly, to serve' to say the least.

I've never understood the BA inferior service comments. I fly F on BA regularly and consider the old horse female Pursers and older camp cabin crew to provide infinitely superior than the QF crew, particularly on the A380. In fact, on my last flight on QF12, the FA in F when I asked him to remove the half full glass of Baileys (he filled it to the rim) and the Vodka and lemonade I no loner wanted so I could sleep actually responded "Well, you shouldn't have ordered them, should you?" I was pretty appalled, but it cemented my opinion that QF crew are just too casual and relaxed for my liking.

As for the partnership, it's widely known that EK ground service is particularly bad when things go wrong, such as missed connections, lost luggage etc, not to mention their constant overbooking.

Long haul BA is good, as good as Qantas but wouldn't say better. Sure you have a story to show how bad Qantas is but bet others including myself could give arguments of good Qantas service and poor BA service. Having lived in London for four years and flying BA every 2-2 weeks let me tell you BA ain't too flash on the ground either or with luggage. In those four years about 2 in 3 flights were delayed on the ground waiting for a gate or for someone to drive the bridge and unload the a/c.

Short haul BA is cough like all European
airlines. Poor seating and other than a meal up front nothing. So the real issue is if I'm going to Europe or northern Africa what would I prefer? One flight to DXB then EK to my destination or a double hop to LHR then BA short haul?

Having a look at Emirates' destinations in Europe and Qantas' current codeshare destinations, it looks like Emirates doesn't fly to Toulouse, Budapest, Brussels, Berlin, Hanover, Stockholm, Oslo, Shannon and Aberdeen. Is it anticipated that the BA codeshares to these destinations will continue?

(I have excluded Helsinki from the above, as the continuance of the AY codeshare has been confirmed.)

Pick up a car in Denver and drive up I70 into the Rockies and you'll be at 7,000 feet in no time (11,000+ if you go far enough to go thru the tunnel). Then you have a choice of great places you could stay for 1 night - Georgetown, Breckenridge, Vail - surrounded by spectacular mountains and in June most likely bright sunshine and warm temps. Sure beats a weekend in Dallas.

I believe EY have an exact same service offered. Have many VA members here taken advantage of such services? (Assumed only possible if booking on the EY code and not the VA code?)

I just returned from Europe on VA/EY where I used my EY points for return in J AUH-BRU. Got the chauffeur both ways in Brussels. Sure beats a taxi or the train

wow...what a thread! halal, drugs and falcons...

If this partnership allows QF to getting the books back into the black than that can only be a positive. Lets face it, they are suffering from being stuck in one corner of the world, with an ageing and poorly invested fleet with a highly unionised workforce being paid well above competitors in Asia and the Middle East - (this is not a judgment on the unions - just a $ for $ comparison between QF and SQ/CX/TG/EK/EY et al)

If a tie up with EK means that QF can focus on flying in Asia with better scheduling and product than that can only be a positive. For those really wanting to transit SIN/HKG, then the OW options still exist anyway (BA/CX) - so what's the big deal. DXB allows for better options into Europe rather than the waste of a back-track from LHR.

Will be interesting to see where QP fits in amongst this. Obviously QF lounges are OK, as well as DXB T3. But nothing has been said about EK owned lounges (outside DXB), as well as guests.

I'm amazed at some of the xenophobic comments. Meat in an Islamic state being Halal? That's understandable. You'd be quite surprised by the amount of food in Australia that is Halal. Vegemite? Yes. Kit Kats? Yes. McDonalds? Yes(in some circumstances). If you're not Islamic, I don't see what the issue with halal is? Considering you don't believe in the justification for the process, how does it affect you anyway? It's still meat at the end of the day!

One more thought - Kangaroo is meat also

Do you think when this merger takes place we can get PE from Per to Europe etc, as now you cant with EK

I WILL BE CORECTED< JUMPING into bed with QF, u happy now????????????????????????????????????????????

WELL, some people cant wait to pick on other peoples ording, must wait for people to post then find fault ,When i said merger I bet 99 people out of a 100 knew what was meant , never mind eh
