It's their society and culture - you are in it, show some respect! Same thing holds if you go to any other transit point - Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong.... heck, even Abu Dhabi, Guangzhou....
The same way they show respect for our society and culture?

I wonder how long my crucifix would continue to hang around my neck on a short transit? Or should I hide my religious beliefs?

As long as you want it to be there or rather - as long as you need it to be there.

My crucifix was perfectly fine when I transited DXB, and I changed my shirt in the toilets (no lounge access). No issue what so ever.

The same way they show respect for our society and culture?

I wonder how long my crucifix would continue to hang around my neck on a short transit? Or should I hide my religious beliefs?

This is starting to become really silly. I think this thread has turned into something quite nasty now and it's time to shut it down.

I presume you could still book BA flights through the BA website and LH flights with SQ connections - with reduced or no QFF point earn and no QC access in LHR/ FRA for paid QC members.

And I'm sorry I don't respect intolerance.

So just because one culture may be intolerant (and not say completely intolerant) then we deserve to do what we like there?

We could be as intolerant as they are and subject adverse behaviour in this country to similar punishment, but we don't. That's just us.

But declaring one should have free reign to do whatever in another culture just because you don't agree with it is not correct.

By the way, what is your suggestion to Jewish and Israeli travellers? Be respectful and not exist?

This was covered in another thread. As it stands, most people - Jewish and/or Israeli - can transit Dubai provided they are not on an Israeli passport (or an Israeli citizen).

For the rest, there are other options as discussed upthread.

My only point is that due to the intolerance there, I choose not to travel via certain airports and Qantas is taking away the options to still fly QF while doing so.
I don't fly VA but if I wanted I think I could still fly code shares on Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines?

And as mentioned upthread, you have the option of flying with BA or CX, or even creatively going across the Pacific instead (QF, then another booking with BA or AA).

As for reduced earn, have you thought about flying Economy with SQ and crediting to your VA account?

You lot are still going?

Yes they are :!:

I fail to see how an argument broadly about cultural insensitivity is amusing, straitman.

Split off the thread, if you will, but that might be difficult since people are intent on attacking this whole venture purely from a single xenophobic and cultural insensitive viewpoint.

The same way they show respect for our society and culture?

I wonder how long my crucifix would continue to hang around my neck on a short transit? Or should I hide my religious beliefs?

I think you'd be fine as long as you don't make a huge statement about it. They won't even nail you to it, either.

So based on that timetable, when are we likely to be able to book flights? Or to put it another way, when are Qantas likely to put EK in the booking engine?

Sent from my iThing.
Why, because iCan.

I would've thought that even with the JSA abolished, QF will maintain at least some BA codeshares, e.g. BKK/LHR, HKG/LHR. BA also still have their own service to SYD travelling via SIN; no reason why post-JSA that you couldn't book these (even as BA marketed sectors), which means you can still link up to these in SIN via other centres (not just SYD)..

Qantas's ACCC submission says the codeshares with BA for onward travel on both airlines via BKK and HKG and SIN 'may' continue. I haven't heard anything stronger than that. If those codeshares ceased, BA would seem to be the one losing more options for getting pax to Australia than QF (after the EK tie up) ... unless BA's tie up with Qatar goes ahead. On the other hand QF may have been surprised by the resistance of some pax to give up SE Asian stopovers, which could push pax to other carriers. But who can predict airlines' priorities and decisions these days ?

Final determination.

So based on that timetable, when are we likely to be able to book flights? Or to put it another way, when are Qantas likely to put EK in the booking engine?

They are not leaving themselves a lot of time between decision (if it comes through) and "go live", so to speak.

I would expect QF not to enable booking flights until the last minute, viz. the decision. Don't forget that when they enable bookings, they also have to start rebooking those on the old QF1 etc. services. If these are retimed then it'd be a bit of a mess up if QF rebook people then has to revert them back in the event of ACCC rejecting the application.

That's a lot of speculation and conjecture, but you can't go wrong if you assume that you won't be able to book until at least the ACCC say yay or nay.

Given the number of EK flights vs QF, if anyone is going to be into trouble in DXB, they would be much more likely to have arrived there on an EK flight than a QF one.

Just checked at Nice for our BA codeshare to LHR and then transiting to QF2 to SYD. As I am Gold, I am entitled to 2 bags in Y on BA due to the announcement in August. Immediately they tried to charge me. I brought out the printoff of the change in policy emailed to me in my monthly statement, still denied I had 2 bags entitlement, called her supervisor who also denied entitlement, then after I asked to speak to him he came over. Showed him the printout. He said it is always too difficult with Qantas. Finally went off and came back with the regulations, agreed I had the entitlement but informed me that in future my service will be very poor as Qantas was cutting its ties with BA and leaving OW. All with a typical Gallic shrug.

Sounds like we need to carry a lot more than a passport these days. Good idea with the printouts.

It is I, Leclerc !

Qantas will start taking bookings soon, they won't wait I'll it's green lighted by the authorities and have not done so in the past (JQ Japan being the most recent example).

That Yay or Nay will be indicated by end of October and confirmed by December ... anything after that would be i dotting and t crossing.
