Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

Yes I agree about the EK Lounge at DXB. The first time I went there I couldn't believe the size of the place or the hundreds of people in there. One time I had to leave the Lounge to find a toilet that didn't have a queue....not good

The word on the street is that the J Lounge will be one of the largest in the world, nearing a kilometre or so in length (I think that is the dimension).

When does it go from being a lounge to a terminal? ;0

A year is a long time in Politics, even longer in the airline industry, just over a year ago QF were going to build a better Qantas with four pillars:

2.Strengthen Asia (Invest in a new Asian premium airline.)
3.Deepen and broaden alliances with LAN and BA, including strengthening the JSA!

I hope the other pillars are still going OK:

1. Customer Excellence
4. Ongoing Business Improvement

I see this as a positive move, however I do wonder what will be the picture in a years time! At least the lounge access with issues with BA have some logic to them now.

Where did you get these four pillars from?

The four I found are:

- Opening gateways to the world
- Growing with Asia
- Being best for global travellers
- Building a strong, viable business to create shareholder value.

Have a look at the investor preso that accompanied the results announcement a week later than the fluff:

I think they possibly came from an older address, which was when Qantas released the "A New Spirit: Building A Stronger Qantas" note about one year ago, announcing the withdrawal of HKG/LHR and BKK/LHR on QF metal, moving EZE to SCL, etc.

Can I confirm some how whether this tie-up will results in QANTAS start offering flights to LAHORE, PAKISTAN?

umair,
Most likely but routing will be SYD-DXB-LHE
which is not exactly direct (eg SYD-SIN-LHE)

Thats fine. but at the moment, there is no way to confirm that this flight will be available?

No, no way to confirm this. In fact, no one knows for sure which routes EK will have QF codeshares on. The information simply hasn't been released yet.

Even though those flights may not have codeshares on them, it would be a pretty safe bet that they would be QFF points earning flights

Well, crossing fingers that QF will not have any non-earn Y classes on EK coded flights. The awarding of status credits on EK coded flights is also uncertain; history alone suggests this may not be happening.

For umair, if the flights are not all QF coded (i.e. metal or codeshares), there's a chance that you may not be able to book them on the QF website and thus on one ticket.

But we'll have to wait and see what happens. After all, the first step is that QF needs ACCC approval for this alliance to go ahead before we can all even start talking about this stuff with confidence.

welcome to the forum umair. there are some very knowledgable people that you'll have access to through these pages

However, if the QF flights carry an EK code, you may be able to book it as one ticket with EK instead.

I can't remember if it was discussed in this thread or another but . . .There has been discussion on the possibility of a xONE3 being possible from 1 April. Well apparently oneworld appears to have gotten in early in preventing that:

oneworld Explorer rule sheet, rule 4 (k) Travel between South West Pacific and Europe/Middle East on a single flight number/or by surface is considered travelling SWP-Asia-EU/Middle East through three continents

Next thing oneworld is going to start inventing continents and countries.

It has been mentioned on other threads, so I think the rule was already there:

The current xONEx rules state "Travel between South West Pacific and Europe/Middle East on a single flight number/or by surface is considered travelling SWP-Asia-Europe through three continents". Seems like this would still result in a minimum of a xONE4 from Australia.

I noticed that QFF awards to LHR are now available via DXB (at least in September 2013). Plenty availability in Y but looking for J seems to still route via SIN and/or FRA. Interestingly taxes/charges on QFF (Y) are $A462.42 but the same flight booked through AA is only $US83.90. I guess it's only a problem for those of us who still call Australia home!

AA does not include Fuel Fines in their taxes calculation for award flights operated by QF.
