DXB is great for me - 2 - 3 days recovery in DXB before heading to PFO or LCA - only one long flight - great stuff.

SYD-DXB opened up again today:
Y $2058 rtn
J $9617 rtn  (you have got to be kidding...!)
F $14067 rtn  (see above)

Let's hope these aren't the final fares as I'm struggling to see why you would book QF on this city pair when EK et. al. can be had for much less...

F to LHR is only $13,088, so take a weekend excursion...

Prem Y for AUD3287 and a combination whY/Prem Y AUD2687

They have not loaded fares from LHR to DXB

DXB is now reloaded back onto the QF Award System, so it might be time to book people :)

I don't see many SYD-DXB in J for example but plenty in F ;)

Hmm - I checked for Sep/Oct next year (yes I know it is school holidays) and there wasn't anything in J or F (2 adults 1 child) and only a couple of days with PE.

Funnily enough, Emirates Y fares drop on 31 Mar 2013, the day QF launch on the route...

Interesting, but if going anywhere in the Middle East, then you're still better redeeming AAdvantage for EY as there are no connections on EK loaded yet.

Qantas and Emirates baggage allowances will be aligned using the weight system and not the piece system according to Alan Joyce in this article, where he has no regrets to the grounding as sparkle returns to his eye (must be the bling from the EK A380 suites!);

Qantas will also change its long-haul baggage policy from a per-piece system to one based on weight, in line with Emirates.

Qantas and Emirates may also plan to consolidate lounges - a sign of things to come in Singapore and other ports perhaps? Maybe QF and EK will open a joint International lounge in ports like Adelaide? It seems QF customers will still be directed to the BA lounge in London (as there is no Qantas lounge in London - failed journalism from The Australian, again).

While passengers to markets such as London will have the choice of an Emirates or Qantas lounge next year, Joyce says he'd like to see them come together in the future.
"Eventually we would love to have common lounge facilities in the UK together. Longer term, you would like to see as much commonality as you can get. But we both want to ensure we maintain our brand presence in our core markets. But where you can get the benefits of common lounges and common facilities, that will be the thing to do," he says.

FWIW, IMO, the EK Business Lounges in MEL and BNE are the best of any int'l lounges at those 2 airports. Hopefully if loungesharing becomes a reality, then QF will move to the EK lounges and not vice versa. Can't ever see SYD changing though.

Totally agree. The EK lounge in BNE is one of the best lounges I have ever been in and the QF lounge at BNE International is just the pitts

Better than MEL Flounge? I haven't been in the EK lounge, but think it would be hard pressed to beat the upstairs QF lounge.

Which lounge would we use in Singapore if flying Emirates Business Class?

From memory it's on Level 3 in Terminal 1

I probably should've given more information with the last post... it's up from the main level in the terminal, just before the right-angle turn at the C gates. It's next to the Rainforest lounge. Note that level 3 is very disconnected, so you must use the specific escalators/lift to reach this lounge.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to checking it out after the limo ride from our hotel! :-)

I suspect that if you are not actually on an EK flight you may not get in. Or am I being too cynical here.

Is the EK lounge at BNE really that good? I've been in EK lounges all over the world and most are average - DXB is particularly bad with too few showers and toilets.

I agree though that the BNE International J lounge is poor and the "F" lounge must be QF's idea of a joke.

Never been in it, but given that it has quite an extent, I'd say that the EK lounge would be preferable to the QF lounges, if only that it is located quite far from the main concourse (but close to where EK has its flights).

DXB is probably good in terms of design but due to the explosion of EK traffic it's probably been insufficient for demand. Hopefully this will be resolved when DXB finish the concourse extensions in EK's part of the terminal (including a dedicated A380 concourse). The word on the street is that the J Lounge will be one of the largest in the world, nearing a kilometre or so in length (I think that is the dimension).

I agree though that the BNE International J lounge is poor and the "F" lounge must be QF's idea of a joke.

I find that the lounge is sufficient enough, but definitely room for improvement. The view is quite nice and refreshing, which helps alleviate a bit of the insufficient aspects of the lounge (compare this to some other lounges which feel closed in, or lack windows or natural light).

The F lounge is not - I call it the F room instead. Thankfully it too has some natural light to give it a bit more "breath".
