Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

EK have an abundance of aircraft on order but that alone is not sufficient to meet their existing expansion plans.

Emirates have already stated that they believe they will need an additional 30 A380 for their expansion into LAS, SFO & DFW and other US ports.

Which will continue to free up smaller aircraft like the A330s and triplers, believe the current tripler utilisation is at 70% and they have A330s in storage.

Possibility 1 - going back to an A330
Possibility 2 - going to be an EK service only with QF codeshare.

Neither possibilities at all inspiring.

QFs Y+ pricing appears to be an all round mess at the moment.

Cheers skip

Interesting start date for an additional BKK service just loaded in the GDS by EK according to airlineroute.net:

Emirates starting 31MAR13 is launching 5th daily service on Dubai – Bangkok service, initially operated by 3-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft. From 01SEP13, the new flight (EK376/377) will switch from A330-200 to 3-class 777-300ER aircraft with First Class Suite. Reservation for this new flight opened this morning.

Lanyard idea on arrival time into Bkk and current QF timings to Bkk?

Why does Qantas need to connect with Emirates in Bangkok anyway, when both Qantas and Emirates will be offering direct flights from Sydney which is clearly where the QF flight orginates. What Qantas needs somewhere in Asia is an asian airline to connect with.

Was going to say the same. Won't you be able to use EK from Sydney direct to BKK via Qantas?

Perhaps QF will operate services like ADL-BKK, BNE-BKK and PER-BKK to hook in with EK services to Dubai and onwards?

Or a sadder and frankly more likely scenario, EK are going to expand that service once it switches to a 777 to operate BKK-SYD-BKK and take over the current QF service. Freeing up an A330 to operate say HNL or other services into Asia.

The only international destination Qantas flies into Adelaide is Singapore and that's only a couple of times a week so can't see any expansion there.

So as the traditional Kangaroo route via Asia enters the twilight of its life, and new names have been suggested for it's Arabian replacement, including the Falcon route, I thought maybe we could call it the "Date Route", and reliving any teenage boys dream, come April we could all enjoy a first date route.

Boom boom! :p

FWIW, Earlier postings in this thread have indicated "The Falcon Route".

Oil Route
Sheik route
Flying Sheik route
Date route
Via the Sandpit
Khalifa route

I personally like the 'Sandpit'. I think on PPRuNE they (pilots) refer to it (Dubai/Middle East) as the 'Sandpit' already.

the "date route" could have a totally different meaning.... ;) :p
