Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

Hey all.

My QF gold status is expiring end of this month (30 April). Being in Perth and with work reevaluating their need for travel, I haven't been able to make the 1x flight to retain my status :/

What would happen if I make a $130 booking from MEL to SYD for October and then just don't get on board?

Any idea if my status would be revoked after the missed flight?

Looking for suggestions to maintain my status in the next 2 weeks! Thanks!
In a situation where I was unable to make a change - it was Amex and they weren't responding so as a cheap fare I gave up, I didn't travel but didn't receive any credit or FF points. Of course this is a little different being revocation of status. You now have until end of Dec to fly as long as booked pre April 30 so surely you could fly somewhere within WA?

Never heard of a status extension being revoked.
This is a very different and novel scenario.

Only problem is having to decide in the next 2 weeks. I definitely have a work flight in may and june, but cant book them just yet :/
Cant just change the flight either as it needs to be booked by our travel agent.

Indeed. I'm surprised this hasnt come up in the past several months though!

That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It will be a long wait until October!
Worst case scenario I get an extension from april to october.
Question now is do I book a flexi flight so I can cancel. Or book a cheap fare and no-show.
Not sure if it makes a difference

It sounds like most of your flying is work related. What a pity you couldn’t take a quick flight to Broome in the last 12 months, even as a same day return. 😞

Cant you just commit to and book a weekend away to travel before the end fo the year?

If your worried about interstate tavel, fly somewhere within WA, but everything is open so a trip east shouldnt be a worry.

And if you dont want to waste $, book a domestic classic economy award flight, whilst not usually the best use of points it is the cheapest way to secure your status for another year.

That’s because it’s not the (previously June 30) now Dec 31 date so no one is bothering just now.

Honestly if it’s that important to you personally (it was to me) then book a cheap flight yourself and not involve your work. That’s what I did. There are so many regional WA flights.

I called on Tuesday to chase up my lack of rollover SCs, she said it takes 2-3 weeks, but as we were at that point already, she escalated it to the internal team.

48 hours later and nothing yet - I guess they might be on Easter break.

Ended up just booking a syd to mel flight for late december. Will just not board and see what happens....
Worse case i at least get my gold status extended from april to december

Wonder if there's any difference if i check in and then dont get on board vs not checking in....

One of those options means 100+ people sitting in a plane waiting for someone who failed to board.

… and check-in some luggage as well?

Why would my SCs not reset on a Sunday, like they usually do. But they haven't yet.

Not arguing, just observing ;)

cheers skip
Because ours haven't either? It's only fair.😁 I'm just pleased it's worked given we fly out to UK in two weeks and some kind of status makes things much easier.

Membership year ends 31 May and still showing that I need 2 flights and 1180 SCs to retain Platinum.

I booked and took a flight on 28 April. Is it too soon to show updated status?

I'm not too concerned about roll over credits as I'm not likely to retain Platinum again in the near future. Lifetime Gold for me is the new Platinum.

As has been stated and oft repeated up thread, status will not change until your anniversary date.

The only time the anniversary date changes earlier appears to be if you have actually earned and/or received all the status credits required to renew and flown the four legs earlier.
