Qantas Fleet

It might be different for some flights but the crew I had on my A380 back from AKL last week mentioned they get two days in AKL. Its possible its different for the 777s owing to the shorter hops some do??

Perhaps, I did hear this from a 777 crew who had done the SYD-CHC-SYD leg.

EK fly A380s from Aus to AKL. The flight doesn't need to be full to make money since it costs money to have it just sit on the ground anyway.

Three of them to be precise and a 777 to CHC from SYD. I thought all of these were same day turn around....? I'm positive CHC with the 777 is as I have flown it.

The aircraft is a same day turn - the crew however are not due to rest requirements.

Niece was an EK FA (until she met a pommy Engineer in DXB and married him) - two day layover at AKL was the norm for her.

What fuel savings would an A340 achieve cf. 747? An A340 can probably be purchased for next to nothing.

An EK FA operating on the A380 routes last month said the slips are now all 24 hours (-ish). They operate to BNE/SYD/MEL and get 24 hours there, then operate to AKL and get 24 hours there; then back to BNE/SYD/MEL for 24 hours, then back to DXB.

forgive me if Ive lost track of whats happening with the A330's but Jetstars site says they have 3 dreamliner now so assume 3 a330 would be being rebranded to Qantas by now? How long does a re fit take on these and thus whats the estimated arrival of the new a330 business class ?

1 came back a while ago and two are in the shop so to speak so 4-6 weeks. ETA for the first of the refits with new J is the end of 2014, if it goes ahead.

So they are getting them back and refitting them with the current domestic fit out or the sky bed fit out? Seems strange not to just re fit with the new design straight away than doubling up no?

I am guessing the seats are yet to be certified, so in some ways they are refitting them with a new design, but only in the guise of streaming IFE

What doubling up of seats are you referred to? I would think the only thing that would happen with these JQ birds is a coat of paint, iPads for those with out the Personal IFE to get them ready to return to QF. No need to change any seats, considering that some of the birds are in the current QF domestic config, and the millennium birds were QF domestic not too long ago...

The changes will come with the 330 cabin re-config program later on.

I think they were referring to was the cost of taking the aircraft out of commision recovering of seats plus the coat of paint and iPads, to be the current J domestic config of trying to pass off Starclass seating at J class prices (which is worse than the competition giving VA a big helping hand for a few years), and then taking the aircraft out of commision again to do the lie flat J class seats in the end of 2014 or in 2015, so QF will basically "catch up" to where its competitors are already (VA CX SQ EY etc) sometime in 2015....if QF still exists then. And even then - as others have pointed out - they are losing maybe 33% of their J class seats due to the larger seat size unless they start sacrficing space in the Y cabin or introduce a PE product accross the A330 fleet then they will have to increase J fares by 33% making them even less competative.

As the other poster said PPPPPP. So correct - they don't have the new seats certified - the question is why. The answer is probably similar to the QF aircraft that got refurbed and then sent to the desert.

The OP referred to ripping the seats out with the current conversion, i.e changing the product.
