Qantas Fleet

Now now, we all know that's highly doubtful ;) there are only a few places in the world you can see cows from the plane as you land... :P

From my travels to NZ, there are quite a few airports there where you can see sheep and cows when landing. From memory Christchurch is one.

As we all know that was intention... and they will be gone soon enough. Though when gone people will start remembering the good old days.

Yep... they don't quite make aircraft as they used to.....

Now to get rid of those clapped out old 767s, as we all know, a seat cover and an iPad is like putting lipstick on a pig...

Well , In todays paper they are reporting that QF will announce that they will retire 15 767-300ER .... I actually prefer a wide body over a 737....

Sounds like your wish may come true, but replaced with what? They also happen to be the backbone of Qantas Freight, with more capacity than an A332.

That story hasn't been fact checked as there are only 13 remaining active in the passenger fleet with VH-EFR being the dedicated QF Freight aircraft (making 14 in total). Considering EFR was only leased two or so years ago I'd be surprised if they dumped it now.

Be also difficult to immediately dump the 767s unless JQ/3K immediately return their A330s without major Domestic reductions on the triangle routes.
(eg. Can't see how QF could get enough slots on SYD-MEL with just 738s)

But I agree - I wouldn't be surprised to see announcements re both the 767 and 747 fleet.

Ha, ha, you may indeed be right, but I've always arrived in CHC in the dead of night and haven't spotted any sheep wearing orange hi-vi ;).

As a follow up...unconfirmed, but interesting nevertheless:

I have heard a rumour that has came from one of the planning departments is that they are going to retire the 767 once they have the 717 operation between Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart up and running because supposedly the 717 will free up some 738's which will then be used to replace the 767's that operate between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin. The rest of the 767's will be replaced by the a330's coming back from jetstar.

So a lot of the jobs that service the 767 will be gone...

In planning, there has been no rumours of pulling out of London or Johannesburg though.

The other rumour is that they are going to be WET LEASING 4 A380's to some airline in Turkey. So I don't know how that is going to work.

Note that its time as a "TN aircraft" was relatively brief. It commenced operations under TN in April of 1993 and was repainted to QF in October of that year.

So 5 months as TN, 245 months QF.

Fellow #avgeek. ;)

To all the B767 haters out there - enjoy your Starclass product at J class fares on the replacement A330s being returned from JQi to QFd, and replacement of B767 services with B738 means that Y pax will enjoy their B and E middle seats a lot more! And this is putting aside all the other space/roominess and speed advantage the B767 had over the A330. So I suggest that pax are certainly not the winners in the B767 retirement whenever that happens.

I could see why QF would want to accelerate the B767 retirement even faster more due to fuel costs and getting rid of a lot of crew/maintenence costs. As moa999 says - I also can't see how they can do it without more B787s magically appearing for JQi ahead of schedule (and no more teething problems), QFd may also be slot and gate constrained in SYD and MEL, and again we come back to the longer turnaround times of the A330 vs the B767 making the A330 difficult to work on shorter east coast routes. And remember there are not enough A332s to replace the existing B767 fleet on a 1 for 1 basis anyway so total domestic capacity is only growing due to B717s and maybe a few new B738s (assuming JQd fleet remains static).

Their retirement was annouced a long time ago. Now not having seen the newspaper article maybe what they are saying is retirement schedule will be accelerated. (and as others have pointed out there aren't 15 anyway)

I am not a B767 hater, the opposite in fact, but I don't quite understand what you are getting at above? The JQ Starclass J product is/was the Qantas domestic J product and is similar to what is/was on all domestic 767's anyway. So not sure what your issue is in this regards. Change to a 738 I do understand but unfortunatly that is what the market, from a demand perspective is now demanding.

Worth noting that Qantas still has a few TN birds (4) , flying freight every night as modified 733s.

Could he simply be the person in the office who flies the most? LOL.

I know of transport writers who know nothing about transport but their words are accepted as fact.
