Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

Carbon offset - does anyone have experience in getting that leaf when booking a (cheap) flight but not actually turning up for the flight? All my DOM flights are booked via travel agencies and hence I can‘t add the offset. So was wondering whether I can book the cheapest SYD-MEL or so flight, offset it but never actually fly it to get the leave. Definitely worth 50 SCs on my view.

Just an update.
My new status year has just started and my Green tier was renewed. Happened automatically with the rollover (I had completed 5 activities in 2022-2023).
Was able to select my 50SC reward too.
Hold on - did you need to do the 5 activities again in your 2023-2024 year to select the 50sc again?

No my year just started again yesterday.
I had completed the 5 activities during 2022-2023.
The option to select an Award only appeared on my account yesterday after the new year started.

That means if I decide to retain I’m going to need to find an additional 50 SCs compared with what I thought. Might let my status slip then try to get it back next membership year.

The implication, as mentioned up thread is you’ll be limited to taking 50 SCs in the one status year for GT Yr 2 onwards.

I’m about to get my 1st GT year and take the 50 SCs in August (1st month of new member year). I think I’ll be happy then with a rolling 50 SCs at the start of each year thereafter while ever GT is around.

I was hoping for a 100 SC rollover from PC+ but that’s proved to be a bridge too far…

Thanks to odd numbered PC SC I'm a whole 1 SC short to requal WP this year. Was hoping this would not be the case re Green Tier opening up reward selection in the next status year, guess I will need to find a nice short status run.

Or call. Someone else recently got comped SG (from PS) when they realised they’d be 1 SC short.

I don’t play golf but I reckon 1 SC is a “gimme”.

I don't know the answer to your actual question, but IMHO a better option would be to book a QF flight you need/want for the future (cash or award) and offset that.

You don't have to wait until you fly the flight to get the leaf, you should get it within a few days of purchasing the flight and offsetting it.

Yeah, same. Bummer. Though dropping a level makes SG/WP 100 or 200 higher to re-attain?

Yeah, I'll be async as well. Will need everything I can get to retain WP.

Yep, you could book SYD-MEL (Ret) for ~12mths time, pay the offset at time of booking and still get the leaf a few days after booking.

Book a cheap reward far in the future, offset at booking. Few days later get the leaf. With any luck, Qantas will change the schedule of your flight between now and travel date, at which stage you call, say that doesnt work, and cancel for free. Worst case scenario, no change schedule, and you will cancel online. You will get your taxes and points, minus 6k points for cancellation fee (per person). Make sure to use a credit card you will keep up to the flight, to make refund of taxes painless.

I called Qantas about exactly the same issue - 1SC short - and they were happy to move me to WP knowing that I didn't have any flights booked before the end of my membership year.

I didn't get that. My member year starts/ends 31 March - I did my 5 leaves prior to 31 March (like a few days before it expired), I never received the option for points or status credits.

I called the customer care centre and they are still "looking into it". They will probably wait till my Gold status expires before offering the status credits. Hopefully, I won't need the extra credits with the amount of flying I'm doing this membership year, but you never know.

Or simply make it a busines rewards, and cancel it when you get the leaf.

Are business reward cancelable for no fee?

Way back when QF had a 50% bonus SC offer I had a BNE-LAX-BNE in Y.

45+45= 90 x1.5 = 135 right?

Well no.

According to QF:

45x1.5 = 67.5 - we credit you 67

67x2 = 134

And thus I was faced with being 1 SC short of SG.

Now I accept that the latter calculation is the correct method, but I also expect that the convention of rounding 0.5 up to 1 would apply.

I had an unexpected work trip on the final day of my membership year which meant it wasn’t an issue.

But if I ever fall 1 SC short of LTG or LTP, I’ll be on the phone quick smart:

“I’m calling about some flights from October 2007….”
🤣
