Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

I also received this email, but no option to select the award (I already received it by calling up a few months ago)
The same with me - received SC manually after contacting QFF, got this email yesterday, but no option to select. Fine by me given I received the reward this membership year. Bit concerning if their systems are inadvertently giving them out twice though, it might make QFF less willing to manually issue the reward as soon as someone retains GT in their membership year. I want my SC as soon as I am ‘entitled’ to them per the Ts and Cs, not in the last month of my year!

I suspect that previously they probably had a policy just to let the IT do its own thing and give the reward at the end of the membership year. Then they started getting more and more calls asking for the reward so they've probably set someone up to run a batch thing (maybe end of month) and send everyone that qualified their reward.

Hey did this give you 4 leaves? Trying to find the fastest way to obtain my final 2 leaves before end of December...
I didn't checkout, was just checking if the discount applied.

But buying all 4 wouldn't get the four leaves, you need to do (only) one per category.

Sorry this may have been answered before:

What are the top 5 ways to achieve green tier by December 31st:

Have currently unlocked 3 leaves from:
1. Quiz
2. Donation
3. Choose sustainable (through wine)

P.S. no QFF flights booked for remainder of year yet, and got declined for energy change somehow.

I'm not sure how the flight offset can be achieved without having a booking in your manage my booking page, so you may need to make a booking for the future. Note that if you cancel a booking within 24 hours it currently says the offset is refunded so I would imagine it won't stick in that circumstance.

For sustainable lifestyle, pay for an offset for your home and/or cars.

Not really. Depends also on how much you value the SCs or points.

But a domestic return flight is cheap. Around $2 to $3. You don’t have to have flown to get the leaf. eg book SYD-MEL (return) next year and pay the offset will provide the leaf about 48 hrs after booking.

Sorry SYD what do you mean book domestic for $2-$3 and not fly? Is there a quick process I can follow so I can do this please!

And does it need to be booked for return next year even though I need the leaf this calendar year?

TIA

The carbon offset for most short domestic flights is around $1 to $2 each way.

If you were to book a trip now for next year and pay for the carbon offset at the time of booking the flights, you should still get the leaf about 2 days after booking even though the flight could be weeks or months away.

What if it was a overseas trip booked for 3 for next year, would you need to carbon offset all 3 passengers?

I thought you could only allow you to pay carbon offset with points and not with cash..

I believe you have to pay the offset for all travellers on the same booking (someone else might jump in if that’s not correct).

Which makes offsetting longer international flights less attractive than short domestic flights - as far as getting a green leaf is concerned.

No, you should be able to pay cash at the time of booking a paid (revenue) flight. Not sure what the current arrangements are for classic rewards (points) bookings however.

I just checked and my last SYD-MEL (economy return) was a mix of classic reward one way and paid the other. The total carbon offset fee was $2.66 ($1.33 each way). So based on that, a one-way flight SYD-MEL with carbon offset at time of booking (points or cash) ought to trigger the green leaf. (There’s discussion up thread several months ago that the total offset amount paid needs to be more than $1 to automatically trigger the leaf.

Based on this, does that mean we can just cancel the flight after and still keep greeen leaf?
I do not know the answer to that @KingHuang (it would have to be a fully refundable flight of course.)

Perhaps the more experienced AFF's might have some insight? Personally I would not do it.

Is it possible to stay one night at a sustainable property? (though not the most cost effective way to achieve one leaf.)

Yep that’s one of my options that I am considering. And the other one is the unknown haha
