As requested by @JasonK, this thread is to discuss and post photos of Qantas international economy class menus and meals.

I was also partly inspired to start this thread after being served this for dinner on a MEL-AKL flight this week:

It was supposed to be lamb with polenta, but I don't think there was any actual lamb to be found in my cardboard box.

The other option on this flight was a chicken and potato salad. I had this on another flight recently, and it looked like this:

Did it pass the taste test?

It wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. A very ordinary meal. The best part was the garlic focaccia slice that came with it!

I believe Singapore Airlines has decided not to proceed with serving economy & premium economy meals in cardboard boxes after that trial.

So you got the vegetarian option!

Actually, flying SYD-MEL last week (albeit Domestic), they handed out a Spring Onion and tomato relish sandwich - which was actually quite tasty despite a few complaints that there wasn’t a non-vegetarian option….

QF81 October 2022 (SYD-SIN)
MAIN

Plant Based Dining - Tandoori cauliflower tikka masala and fragrant rice
Red curry chicken with jasmine rice and choy sum
Braised wagyu beef with broccoli, carrots and soft polenta

Rosemary, garlic, sea salt and olive oil focaccia
no photo oops
I recall I had the braised wagyu beef and it was decent.

QF38 September 2022 (SIN-MEL)
MAIN

Plant Based Dining - Braised tofu with king oyster mushrooms, choy sum and shanghai noodles
Roast chicken with lemon garlic jus, oven baked potatoes, spinach and cherry tomatoes
Stir fried black bean pork with Sichuan vegetables and steamed rice

Herb bread
Here's the Plant Based Option. I recall it tasted pretty good, but the portion size I found was a bit insufficient.

I refused my SYD-AKL cardboard box.
I’ll eat near anything but some slop in a box is below my (low) standards.
Some airlines do food in a box quite well! SQ for their regional routes for example, and SAS for their salads on intra-Europe premium economy (SAS Plus).

Both cases above the food was absolutely delicious.

Great idea for a thread! Here's breakfast on a flight to Nouméa, New Caledonia last month. The flight departs Sydney at 7am and the lounge doesn't put hot breakfast items out until around 6:15am which is a bit late when you need to go and board, so I was looking forward to eating something on the flight.

Hot breakfast box consisting of sausage, spinach, scrambled eggs and beans.

To be brutally honest, this only thing I could taste in this was regret. The Lindor ball was the saving grace.

Thankfully the return journey in Aircalin Business Hibiscus class was much, MUCH better!

I just posted a separate SQ Economy meal thread about this. The food actually tasted quite OK.

I did SQ221 SIN 2 SYD in PE on Friday night. I did. book the cook and got some Indian chicken roti which was quite tasty. The tray itself was clearly what was Y food a couple of years ago. No breakfast served before landing in SYD.

Just showed the top pic to my wife who is flying PER-AKL next week - she hopes for something better of course. Could anyone who has flown that route lately let us know…

Qantas doesn't fly that route, so I assume she's flying via. Sydney or Melbourne in which case I'd imagine the catering is very similar.

Thanks for starting the thread @Mattg :)

Here's my photos from Qantas QF35 MEL-SIN (late April 2023).
========================
Pre meal snack was served along with a drink (I had wine)

20230422_124918.jpg

Main meal (for lunch) was a choice between beef or chicken (apologies I don't remember the specific dishes) along with the usual bread. I believe there was a 3rd plant based option too but I can't recall.

Followed by a paddle pop for dessert and then a tea/coffee service.

1.5 hours before landing there a snack. Choice between vegetarian samosas or a panini (chicken, cheese, onion).
