Qantas international Economy Class meals

Just noticed this thread and thought I'd share a couple of recent trips I took on Qantas operated flights internationally (including to the US, if you consider US bound flights international):

QF81 : SYD > SIN (Sept 22):
Pre-lunch Snack:

Lunch (some rice chicken dish):

QF 82 (SIN > SYD) - Oct 1/2 (also first flight on a QF Airbus 747M)...

Lunch:

Mid flight snack/dessert:

QF7 (SYD > DFW) on Oct 10 (first time flying QF on an ultra-long haul "domestic" service):

At my seat there was a QF bag filled with various types of snacks (this is a first for me on any airline):

Pre dinner appetizer (including G&T):

Breakfast:IMG_0083.jpeg

Overall, I was blown away by the catering on offer here, especially considering it is not considered a flagship destination.

QF18 (LAX > SYD) on Oct 27:

Dinner (I chose the plant based dining as I wanted something light having pigged out at the QF Flounge):

Breakfast:

Catering was very ho-hum in comparison to my prior post (SYD > DFW).

Southern beef with mash potato, corn with herbs and 5 green beans
Or
Rice with chicken salad

Vanessa apparently loves the beef!

I refused my SYD-AKL cardboard box.
I’ll eat near anything but some slop in a box is below my (low) standards.
I think the QF economy meals are appalling (for a ‘full service’ carrier)
Even low cost carriers serve a tray with an entree, salad, main, cheese & bread

I fly with JQ and TG as QF do not service my ports. I would rather pay for food than eat QF food. Flew MEL / HKG. and was horrified with catering. Attendants even handed me a roll without gloves on top of meal.
Travelling economy is a punishment. Glad when I have used all my QF points. They can't live on their laurels as they wilted years ago

QF145 SYD-AKL 23/3/24
Lunch was chicken breast with oven roasted potatoes or cold beef and Mexican corn salad.
Served in somewhat appealing plastic dish and plate, bamboo cutlery and cheese and cracker's.
Chicken was tough and dry but ‘ok’. Spuds done well. Cheese and bikkies good.
Wine was Shiraz first (organic, harsh) before I spotted a Cab Merlot. Much better but still no medals. IMG_2195.jpegIMG_2190.jpegIMG_2192.jpegIMG_2193.jpeg

No CSM interaction, he wasn’t going past the J cabin curtain

What LCC's do that on a 3 hour flight like SYD-AKL? DY didn't ARN-LGW and U2 certainly didn't LGW-GIB....

SYD-AKL Chicken Schnitzel last night

It was fine.

I've still yet to encounter the infamous Qantas cardboard box - maybe I'm just lucky? Or have they stopped doing them?

I thought it was cardboard boxes on domestic but plastic dish and "plate" for international (sometimes no plate)?

I guess with Trans-Tasman, given the muddling with domestic service standards, it could go either way (even though it should go international, of course).

Looks still better than what I got on AKL - MEL in J in late 2022 when Mickey Mouse prepared the tray.

I don’t know what Qantas/the Caterer were smoking overnight but today’s QF156 (AKL - MEL) J offering was absurd. It almost felt like someone who works in places like the Reject Shop had a go today and packed whatever he/she could find in the shelves on the tray and a bit more.

Having said that, the dried fruit from non-sellable fruit were delicious and the crackers & salsa did the job.

The omelette was unfortunately non-edible and has been handed back to the cabin crew.

A big shout out to the ISM in J, Mary King, great service, great smile, and very proactive in asking for top-ups etc.

Pre-departure drinks were provided.
