Qantas international Economy Class meals

Thanks @JasonK For posting - looks exactly the same menu and service from QF23 SYD to BKK on 26 December 2022 (which is 2 hours longer than the SYD to SIN flight). I recall quality being decent but I was a bit peckish when I got off the plane.
Do we know if the new "larger portions and more substantial 2nd meal" service has started yet? I am flying QF23 again on this coming weekend so I will post the results here!

Yes - 2nd service is:
Sage. lemon and ricotta ravioli with kale Napolitana sauce
or
Fried rice with chicken

Served with
Rosemary, garlic, sea salt and olive oil focaccia

Dessert
Rapsberry blondie

Any chance you took a pic of the meal on the way over? Would be interesting to compare …

All my meals are vego/plant based.

QF68 BLR-SYD

Dinner : Rajma curry (kidney beans) rice and mixed veggies with a flatbread. Mind, that was the worst flat bread I have ever had so far .. this is my only complaint. All other items were really good for an airline Y meal

Followed by chocloates, cookies and ice cream

Service on QF23 SYD to BKK on Sunday 3 June.
I took photos of the menu on the screen.
There was no hot chocolate service offered and no strawberry blondie with the 2nd meal service.
Drink and snack service about 45mins after takeoff, lunch about 45mins after that.
2nd meal service 2.5hours before landing - a great improvement on my last international flight to Asia in Y in January 2023.
Also mid-flight, the FAs came around with a basket of goodies - the choc-chip cookies, indvidual wrapped Tim Tams or some veggie snacks.
First service I had the steak - great flavour. Second service I had the fried rice - also a good meal.
Both came with the garlic foccacia bread. First time in many years (even pre-pandemic) that I wasnt hungry when I got off QF23.

Flew on QF36 from SIN to MEL a couple of days ago (on a grotty, tatty A330-300 - the red fabric of the seats was black in the touchpoints - ewww - the end of days, Joyce-style, although the crew were excellent).

Dinner was a choice of char siu pork with bok choy (or similar) and fried rice with a garlic bread roll and vanilla cake. It was pretty tasty and I washed it down with a rose. The other choices were lemon chicken or a vegetarian stir fry.

Breakfast was a fetta and spinach roll which was also pretty good.

My photos of the menu on my trip on QF2 from LHR to SIN in mid May 2023, and QF9 from PER to LHR.

I recall having the Vietnamese chicken salad on QF2 and thinking it was really quite good.
Pretty sure I had the braised beef on QF9, which was quite nice again, but a small serving.

I distinctly remember the quality of service from the London-based crew being better than the Aussie crew in my mind.
The London crew gave an impression of the crew all being friends amongs each other, did a really quick dinner service on both flights, and were happy to respond to call bell requests.

Can't say the same for the Aussie crew, who were generally more akin to "glacial service with a frown". Maybe I had a crew having an off day though, so I hesitate to make sweeping conclusions.

QF35 MEL-SIN

Drinks service right after seat belt sign switched off - classic G&T with savour snack. Loved the snack - was very good.

Vegan cauliflower curry with potatoes and rice - same as what was served as first meal on QF67. What ticked me off is the Italian bread served with this meal - the bread was too doughy and not a good accompaniment to an Indian meal. For me personally, it would have been great if they served a piece of white sourdough.

Followed by Splice Pine Lime popsicle

723DA2AD-F427-4318-AD78-637675FCB888.jpeg

Followed by Tim Tams and coffee/tea

Three times during the flight - snacks were offered. Soy sticks, cookies etc.

Just before landing - veg samosa. The filling was good, but the outer shell felt undercooked (to my liking) and kept sticking to the top of my mouth - washed it down with coffee. Needed the coffee to push the samosa down.

All in all good meal service - barring the doughy bread and undercooked samosa outer shell

Yes. Naan bread would have been good. But depends on how fresh it is … stale naan becomes very hard to bite into and becomes rubbery … however, a sourdough, I’d expect to be tough, rough and crispy … the sauce, if any left in the dish will be soaked up in the sourdough .,,

QF 36 SIN-MEL.

Vego option was a noodle, with tofu, broccoli, carrot and one other yellow ball-shaped-vegetable that was so bitter that it through off the balance of the dish and my palette. However, rest of the dish was good. Served alongside garlic bread. Was a decent meal. Nothing to write home about, but decent.

Followed by brekkie 1.5 hours prior to landing. Black coffee with Spinach and Feta pastry. Definitely good. 👍
