Qantas international Economy Class meals

QF3 SYD>AKL earlier today. Beef & Bacon Bourguignon with Peas, Carrots and Mashed Potato. Accompanied by the focaccia and a cheese and crackers “chaser”. Tasted ok. The real star of the show was the Bulla Murray St Chocolate Salted Caramel Slice ice cream that followed a bit later 😋

Interesting that it’s on a morning flight. I’m all for it, I think breakfast food should be banned on airplanes.

Not sure if it’s just a QF3 thing or if it’s more widespread? Not that it would have made any difference, but we departed late so by the time they were serving it was more like lunch anyway.

On yesterday's QF148 AKL>SYD. Options were Pork Stroganoff or Cold Chicken Salad (which I didn't see, but I'm assuming was same/similar to the offering on my AKL-bound QF3 a few days prior). I went the pork, which was delivered with cheese and crackers plus a mini Kit Kat.

Pork dish tasted a lot better than it looked. Meat was surprisingly tender and I enjoyed the flavour. Far from Michelin Star of course, but not bad. Would have again if it was offered on future flights.

Washed down with a Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc which was ok.

No ice cream offered on this flight, but crew did come back down the aisle multiple times proactively offering additional drinks.

These were also the options on yesterday's CHC-MEL. The chicken coleslaw salad looked decent.

Trays are back!

Good! I always thought it somewhat unhygienic to have to put ur bread and other things directly on the table
Why would you do that and not place it on top of the serviette?

Angus beef steak... if they stew it, that's a waste of Angus. If they try and serve it as a seared or the like, I wonder how they can assure it to be tender. If it comes rare in a salad, that probably is not going to appeal to everyone's tastes at all.

The picture seems to depict the chicken breast.... in a salad. Pretty classic, but that probably means dry breast and likely not a lot of flavour for most people.

Pumpkin tortellini is a pleasant hot alternative dish. I don't anticipate it'll look good at all, and I also recall the disgust of more than a few here at anything pumpkin.

Step in the right direction, but still no proper dessert is disappointing.

A side salad would be a much nicer addition instead of 10cent cheese and crackers

Still a poor intl dining experience compared to many full service carriers

saves crew having to lean across three or four times with all the various bits and pieces? They still had to get all the bits and pieces out, now they can hand them all over on one easy tray?

I have no issue at all with trays, they're used in premium cabins on some of the most highly regarded carriers in the world, and I think the anti-tray argument is pretty silly.

I just think Qantas referring to it as an underplate, seemingly to avoid saying the dirty T word, is ridiculous. It is clearly a tray!

Economy has always done ice cream as dessert for lunch/dinner. On supper, the side is a better dessert, like maybe a creme caramel.

I know - but it’s not a proper dessert, even BA has better Y catering for long haul, forget SQ, EK etc

Agree. I’d prefer a tray in premium cabins if it meant we could get served all the courses at once, then be free to relax or sleep!
