Qantas International Schedule changes

At least they offered to rebook you on Jetstar. When I had my Finnair awards changed last year I was told I could get a points refund and that was it - couldn't rebook me on anything as no reward availability.

In these situations they will always offer a refund as they seem to have done here.

The AY cancellation is outside of their control, so they will do less. The QF cancellation is within their control so they are supposed to offer more.

I thought JFK was a relatively strong route?

US Carriers have pulled back capacity into NZ so thought that would have only benefited this route.

It only went from 4 to 6 last week, so perhaps that was always the plan after the Christmas period was over. It’s only going down to 5 so still more than it was.

They’re also definitely making the most of NZ being curtailed so perhaps accounting for them to ramp up a bit. Increased capacity to DFW should lighten loads to JFK.

Super glad that the A380 is back into DFW. Yet more chopping and changing with JFK. I think the past year has seen it go from five to six and now back to five.

No, as above it went from 4 to 6 last week. Back to 5 after Christmas.

I find it odd that Qantas really just called itself as a business airline and considers Jetstar as the "leisure" (poor) airline. I fly with Qantas because its a full service airline that has been generally reliable and has a wide loyalty program.

"This swap will result in an overall increase in seats between the cities and better serve the strong leisure demand for the route"

"Qantas launched flights to Seoul after the pandemic, and now that demand has normalised, it’s grown substantially as a leisure market, opening up a great opportunity for Jetstar to increase its frequencies and allow Qantas to redeploy its aircraft to other routes where we are seeing strong demand
I hate how Qantas leans on jetstar like it’s part of the same airline (yes they own both, but as a passenger it’s a very different experience). Calling this a positive move that now jetstar is daily to “allow” Qantas to redeploy its aircraft. No, Qantas are leaving a route, jetstar isn’t a comparable alternative.

I have opted for a full refund and cancelled my reward booking.
Now to wait for the points and taxes to get refunded

Thankfully I have loads of Velocity points lying around so will be taking the SQ J option from ICN with a few days stop-over in SIN.

Thanks for nothing QF

QFi is a still a vulnerable part of the business, Jetstar not so much. Really shows the weakness of QFi outside of USA/Europe.

QFi has high margin targets so they will continue to shuffle the fleet around in the Asia region if capacity climbs.

They hang on about it as being a ‘strength’ of the dual brand strategy, but I disagree, it displays the weakness in QFi.

The booting of Seoul to JQ is a kick in the guts. Easiest way to get to Japan on CR when I last looked. We were gonna go via ICN as there was availability for next year direct from SYD, then we had to change plans and went via MNL. No way in hell I'd be going that far on JQ personally.

Yes, it's very disingenuous the way they say Jetstar is a separate airline when it suits them (eg when talking about competition, slots etc) but that it is part of their airline when it suits them to say that (eg when downgrading people off QF onto JQ).

If I wanted to fly JQ, I would book JQ flights.

Obligations no, but very bad PR move and QF has been trying to avoid very easily negative PR moves for a while now. This would easily be understood by the wider public and make for easy 6pm headline news if they rebooked everyone on JQ.

"Thousands of Qantas Passengers have been forced to fly Jetstar after Qantas cancelled their service from Seoul".

Outside a cheap and nasty headline from a B-grade 'news' website, I think you're estimating what Qantas would consider a "very bade PR move".

Key phrase - “if available”.

Of course nothing stopping you changing to other award options if there’s availability.

I would argue the "if available" out clause applies only to the "same destination" element, which in this case is Sydney. If "if available" applied to the "next available flight" clause, I would argue the clause would be:

(a) offer you a seat on the next available flight on our services (if available) for an alternative route to the same destination and where a connection was arranged by us, a seat on the next available connecting flight; or

And if it applied to the entire clause, I would argue the clause would be:

(a) If available, offer you a seat on the next available flight on our services for an alternative route to the same destination and where a connection was arranged by us, a seat on the next available connecting flight; or

Semantics, of course, but perfectly arguable, I would ... argue.
