I have used OLCI a couple of times now. Each time has been without trouble, however this last trip from PER-MEL-SYD I went to get on board in Perth and the FA on board almost refused to let me board stating that I needed to produce my BP to gain access to the plane. I explained that it was an OLCI and showed it to him, but he refused to let me board. As I was the first PAX to show up on the plane and the queue behind me had started to grow, he reluctantly had to let me on but took my BP off me to confirm it later. Prior to takeoff he came up to me and apologised saying that he had only briefly heard of OLCI and that it had been his first one so didn't know how to recognise it.

I had to laugh as it is has been a couple of months now so not many people must be using it.

On a side note, after 50+ flights in the past 12 months I had never had a bag delayed or lost. I have now had my bags lost in 2 flights in a row. Not happy. I was stuck in Sydney overnight with no bags and without an offer by Sydney baggage services for any compo. Thankfully I was able to ring up Perth BS and they offered to comp me $60 in emergency expenses. (PS This happened almost a week after the baggage strike and the bags appeared to have been left behind in Perth).

JAB,

Welcome to the AFF forums.

It's good to see that the QF training of the FA's has been so thorough:rolleyes:

I look forward to trying OLCI myself next week. (I think)

Interesting to note that I got seq #7 for today's 2:20pm SYD-HBA flight and I used online checkin at 2:35pm yesterday. Flight appears to be only half full so I think many people are using online checkin even though they may not be printing their own boarding pass. I got a boarding pass at the bag drop 1/2 an hour ago.

Or some of the 6 previous check-ins were connections from international flights.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but yr most likely to get this type of response on PER services where International FAs operate the 747's. The live in their own little longhaul world ..if you cant have it in QF1 it doesnt exist;)

Has anyone had any issues getting a FF number to show up on a BP?

I'm using an AA number - On CheckMyTrip it showed up as "American Airlines - AAD5xx_XX" - and wasn't on the BP. So i called QF and got them to change it and it's now showing as "Qantas Airways - AADxx_XX" but the damn thing still isn't on the BP.

I have even tried changing seats - incase the BP wasn't being regenerated. No luck there either. My partner's QF number and status is correctly displayed.

I've checked in about 7 times so far - i'm sure the old fashioned way was easier - Then it was the agent's problem if the number wasn't there. :)

Thanks,

Chrisb. :)

PS.. Any comments on 13JK on the 743? :)

When viewed on CheckMyTrip.com, "American Airlines - AAD5xx_XX" means that for all AA flights in the itinerary, the flight will credit to the AAd5xx_XX account.

"Qantas Airways - AADxx_XX" means that for all QF flights in the itinerary, the flight will credit to the AADxx_XX account.

So it all depends on whether the flight in question is a Qantas or AA flight.

Its an upper deck dreamtime window seat. Its not the exit row. So its as good as any non-exit row upper deck dreamtime seat.

Oops, sorry - The PNR is purely Qantas Domestic booked through Qantas.

Then it needs to show "Qantas Airways: AAxx_xx_X" on CheckMyTrip.com.

Yep, that's what I have. :(

Chrisb.

It's not uncommon for the number not to appear on the BP; as long as checkmytrip shows it correctly then I wouldn't be worried

Possibly.

I think we are under estimating the number of people using online checkin.

I always use olci for seat preference and mroe sleep time in the mornings, but don't always have access to a printer - I pick up my bp from the gate just before I board. Every time I have done this, the service person says in a surprised voice "oh - you checked in online".

I'm not sure if it's OLCI or something else, but checking in at the Airport 3 hours before SYD-PER B743 flight and the only pair of 2 seats available to us via QuickCheck in business were the 2 we were auto-allocated - everything else was just single seats. This was very unexpected on an aircraft with 52 business seats. We were sequence 160/161.

Does it register you've checked in online the moment you hit the "Online Checkin" button, or only after you've printed off a boarding pass?

I suspect that it registers after you declare that you have no explosives. I often don't print, but am still 'checked in'.

Used OLCI for my Monday morning MEL-NTL flight (QF2792) the other day, checking in on Sunday afternoon. Was allocated seat 2D. Went to print BP and received message that I had been allocated an exit row seat so BP would be issued at bag drop. Thought this was odd as 1D, 1E are the exit row seats on a Crash-8.

Received BP Seq #1 at bag drop. Ask if 1D available, but was told not (30 mins before flight departure). Get on board and find 1D and 1E empty.

So... intereseting that the OLCI system automatically allocated me an exit row seat.... even more interesting that my supposed exit row seat was in fact not an exit row seat.

hmmm... perhaps you were the contingency plan. Just in case no-one shows up in row 1, you would be the one calling 'women and children first' as you help people onto the inflatable slide.

I agree.

I checked in on Sunday morning for the Redeye Perth - Melbourne. I didn't have a printer available for this leg so I got my boarding pass at baggage drop 45 min before the flight and my sequence number was 17. A/c type was a 743 so the sequence number from the morning obviously held.

My first experience with OLCI and the system seemed to work well although I was given an 'extra' boarding pass on my outbound flight "just in case the printed one wouldn't scan correctly"
