Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Have the plates (in the F lounge) actually changed? I haven't had a problem for a while - I was quite critical before - but haven't had any problems last several visits and now quite like them. And I am sure I haven't become a less-clumsy diner.

Nup - they are the original Newson design from 2007.

I have got used to them¹, maybe you have as well.

¹ Not without an "educational" olive oil or sauce splash here and there ...

We eat from them at home on a frequent basis. I actually like them, not a cutlery fan though. The person who coined them "camp cutlery" ? CruiserElite was right IMHO

I used to despise the cutlery too. But now having eaten at a few posh restaurants where the knives and forks have very thick, slightly rounded square stems* that look ultra cool but are impossible to grip - I'm starting to re-think my critique. Functionality wins every day.

* If that makes any sense.

Accuracy in reporting please PF - 'Kiddies school camp cutlery' to be precise! 

Thats EXACTLY what they are! I really don't understand why they have those ugly things in an otherwise fantastic venue? Is there some practical or safety/security reason that I'm missing? Why wouldn't they have proper cutlery that fits with the style of the rest of the lounge?

They are a Marc Newson 'exclusive' design. QF obviously feels they have some prestige to them.

Hi everyone, have not participated recently due to to damn much to do ,but I have to comment on this.
In the FLounge in LAX and loving the atmosphere as always but what happened to the wine list. I have seen better wines available at the Bridgeport hotel Murray Bridge. Seriously ,a 2010 Penfolds Hyland Cabernet , you can buy here for $11 , and has attained the lofty heights of 88 point reviews and a Centenary Hill Shiraz 2009 , whilst it command a higher $30 Price point still pointed less than it's shelf buddy.
Come on Qantas, this is one of the premier wine positions for Australian Wine in the world. There is not a winemaker in the country that would not want this shelf space, and would support Q with supply and price. Not good enough

Yes well Qantas disbanded (sacked) the multi award winning Qantas Wine Panel last year which had some of Australia's best wine experts and then elevated Perry to fill the gap.
The mission for Perry and his sommeliers was to showcase the best of Australian Wine.

The Ladies who Shoot Lunch red used to be a regular in Dom QPs and possibly also plastic mini bottles in Y golden triangle flights? QF’s wines have really really been enhanced lately across the board

Wow. They've really gone all out on that wine list. What an absolute disgrace. If that's in the F lounge, it must be goon in the J lounge.

The Pennies Tawny....about $11 at Dans. And certainly not from the Adelaide Hills either.
That is a truly woeful wine selection.
I’d be disappointed getting that in a J lounge

Ironically, for the price point, Ladies who Shoot Lunch actually a good bunch of wines. Just not what I'd expect in a F lounge.

It definitely didn't feel like a F experience compared to the excellent service and love shown in Sydney and especially Singapore.

  • No warm welcome at lounge reception or information about booking a shower.
  • Had to ask a F&B attendant where we could sit (he seemed very disinterested "Oh that table is free if you want to sit there"
  • F&B brought a lunch/dinner menu and a breakfast menu (at 6pm) - he scurried off so had to chase him down for the correct menu.
  • Drinks & salt and pepper squid order placed. Drinks took 22 minutes to come out (we saw the drinks sitting at the bar for 15 minutes!) - had to ask 2 different attendants as our dude had gone off on a break.
  • Main course food took a further 41 minutes to arrive (doesn't Neil have an ETA of all dishes should be ready within 10-15 minutes?) - steak and chips was very overcooked, pork belly was quite flavourless.
  • Dining room was only 1/3rd full so they definitely weren't swamped with guests.
All in all very disappointing.

I was in LAX last month and actually had a very good experience.

Same menu as you.
Didn’t bother with the wines, stuck to Taittinger.
Excellent attentive service.
My daughter and I shared a SP squid, and the Basque cheesecake was delicious!!
