Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I fall short by just 20 status credits.
Now that really sucks. Any chance of modifying anything you are still to fly within the needed time frames to make it indirect to get the extra status credits (eg instead of LAX-MEL doing LAX-SYD-MEL, or JFK-ORD-LAX instead of JFK-LAX)?

Even a quick 30 minute joy hop status run in discount economy would be worth considering.

Welcome to AFF Faze. Is there any way you can get those extra 20 SCs before your membership year expires?

As an experienced frequent flyer you probably know some good flights but if you need some ideas then tell us where you'll be and I'm sure some one here can advise of a potential run to help you achieve WP1.

Thanks Hvr and MichaelD

Problem is im already overseas in LA and im going from LA>Ohio>Philadelphia>NY>London>Dubai>Melbourne and it's all business so im only spending a day to two max in each city so there's no room to do a quick re-route.

Qantas told me that their standards are so high that they don't allow even a day after the expiry to give you the P1.

What about paying for an upgrade on one of those short sectors if possible? Or do you need QF metal?

All the flights are in business class so there's not really a chance to upgrade any higher as most of the flights have business as it's top tier.

Which is the last segment of the return journey before your cut off date?
As you will miss by two days, I assume that LHR-DBX-MEL won't be counted?
So perhaps it's the NYC to London segment that is the final eligible segment? Could you upgrade that?

Yeah you're right with the LHR-DBX-MEL segment, i figured out i was actually short by 70 Status Credits not 20 i re-calculated a flight and i got the mileage wrong hence the extra 50, but if i did pay for the upgrade (which isnt that expensive) i do actually fall short by 20 so i kind of got that right in a way haha. But yeah after the LHR>DBX i would be over by like 100

I went through all these options with the service people and there was nothing else they could think of including me flying when the double SC promotion was on.

Im pretty peeved myself yes i know it sounds pretty petty what im about to say but it just got to me..

I have been a QF flyer and a Platinum since i was 15 and this year i was lucky enough to qualify to get P1 due to some extra travel, but there was a problem i am currently in a round-the-world trip which will put me past the minimum P1 requirements but because my flight coming home (which gets me the P1 status) is 2 days after my yearly membership ends, i don't qualify. I called and asked Qantas if they had leway for a 2 day after the expiry would put me in the P1 status i was told i fall short by just 20 status credits.

I totally sympathise with your plight, earning P1 is either a lot of travel or a bit of high fair bucket travel ;)

But ill play devil advocate, where do the rules stop? 20 SC? 50 SC? 100 SC, 2700SC?
Do you pre plan your travel and do the maths on when you would need the SC's by? that would have alleviated your pickle.
Where in the world are you? and how much time do you have left? you still may have options.

Haha yeah it's pretty sad on my behalf but there's not even a day free i have to go anywhere so i guess i just missed my opportunity and this was probably my real only chance.

I just didn't understand how they couldn't be lenient by just two days and i believed i would end up at the end of my trip i'd have like 150 SC over the requirements.

I feel your pain & you could always try next membership year, but there are requirements & could you imagine QF doing that for everyone who was in this situation, not only for WP1 but WP & SG's too. WP1 wasnt meant to be easy to get, so im with QF on this one.

There is a reason a threshold is set. Can't be bending to everyone who fails to meet it as it takes away the exclusivity. If you really wanted p1 I'm sure you could make it happen.

If you are platinum for many years as you say then I think that, in this case, QF should make an exception.

There's 12 months to earn the SCs to requalify. Couldn't you have worked out earlier that you were going to miss out and then planned to do something about it? Leaving it to the last minute to realise you wouldn't requalify then criticising QF for not comping seems unreasonable to me.

I presume you are booked on AA metal - AA do not operate "Business Class" on any segment LAX-CVG(?)-PHL-NYC, they only sell First and Economy.

If so I guess you are booked on QF flight numbers; Qantas happily sell Business while putting you in the AA First Cabin - still only giving Business SC's.

Have you achieved the [-]2400[/-]2700 QF eligible flight requirement?

Do you have even ½ a day spare in LAX or PHL? You can easily pick up 80 SC's with a quick turnaround to LAS (USD450) or SFO (USD462).

What would P1 be worth to you?

Other than that, what is your full routing between LAX-//-NYC? The experienced ones here may be able to assist.

2700 SCs, not 2400.

Unfortunate but I can see it from QF's perspective. Not unusual for them to be stricter on P1 compared to WP - my guess is that most P1s would be well past 3600 and not just scrape through.

Another option is to buy a comfort seat on the longer legs if you are willing to pay for it.

What an excellent potential solution! Our OP has stated they cannot do any extra flying or rerouting, so this would be the only way to get the required SCs.

I have to file this away for future reference in case I'm stuck for a few SCs come my renewal time.
