Qantas Platinum One experiences?

re the 747. I have NO issue with being charged. If I could have gone that is :)

I think it's a lovely idea by QF to reserve for some P1's the chance to have seats upstairs. I do think it's a bit unreasonable to expect it for free though. Maybe a little discount would make some sense but I mean these are high demand they can sell all those seats and don't really care. I reckon some P1 avgeeks I know would even pay a slight premium to have that P1 reserved seat (maybe not.. but I could see it).

Specially in these times QF need every cent.. even for joyflights in a bloody expensive beast so I don't begrudge them charging at all.
I would have loved if it was free but I, too, think that's a little unreasonable.

Something like a one hour tour and photo op with the aircraft in the hangar, along with the business class commemorative goodie bag would have been cool though.

Well my former P1 experience was before COVID (in 2108), but my hubby dropped back as soon as I lost my P1. My year end was Mar, and his was May. They actually made him do a full initial WP qualification with 1400 SC, not even a re-qual at 1200SC. We were both pretty cheesed off. I hope your situation is a bit better than that - could be that the blanket extensions might help you out.

I understand you were not happy but that treatment makes sense to me. Let us say he was Silver or Gold prior to you gifting him Platinum with your P1. He still has an earned status of Silver (or Gold.. whatever that is < Plat). The gift is.. just that and he still held his underlying status (and of course any SC earned while flying with the higher status gift).. so whatever he had actually earned would revert back to once the gift had ended and as such he would be assessed (separate to you) as his earned SC's and thus the normal qualification criteria would apply.

I certainly understand that you might think OK he was Platinum why not allow him the requalification amount? That does make sense from a point of view definitely but the gifted status is not earned so doesn't follow the same rules.

Reading the fine print in the same link 2 posts above:
There is SC support that gives P1s 150 SC per month that counts toward P1 requalification, but does not specify if it does or does not count toward the 900 QF SC requirement. Different and in addition to the boost mentioned in my last post.

Anyone want to guess if it would?

Might help for those that earn the bulk of their SCs using partner airlines, but given the current situation....
Guess what, the support SCs do count toward the 900 QF SC requirement.
With no flights this membership year, the 1800 + 150 SC given so far leaves me with this:

TO RETAIN PLATINUM ONE YOU NEED
1,650 more Status Credits
including at least
750 more Status Credits on Qantas marketed flights

Nah he was Platinum in his own right when the gifting started. I was P1 for 3 years. Anyway small beer in the scheme of things now none of us get to fly 😞

Time travelling much? 😂
Hopefully Covid19 is over by 2108
Thanks there @defurax! Must have been wishful thinking that this was all behInd us. I’ve edited to correct, plus had a laugh.

That makes sense based on what SST informed me when I started gifting WP to MrsM, at the time I was informed that the individual receiving the gift status it was either the highest status level be it gifted or their own that would take priority. However their own status would follow the standard QF rules and would not be placed in a suspended or hold state. When I first started gifting WP to MrsM we could have paid for her flights and she would have retained WP over the past 6-7 years we chose to use points for her travel whilst I remain P1.

Yes and I agree with this and this was what I was trying to say, but I think I may have confused it with commentary on the giftee's status prior to the gifting.. but really it's what has been earned during the membership year during the higher status and when that is ended the normal rules come back into force with whatever has been earned in that membership year.

So I still say the treatment from QF is consistent with this and makes sense.

Just some information for other P1s after looking at my QF account so this information may be applicable for others. My rollover date is the end of July and earlier in the year when QF announced the status extensions I had already retained P1 and in May started receiving the emails stating that my status had been extended. I have just noticed that the P1 F invitations have a corresponding May 2021 expiry date when they are normally July. In my case the F lounge invitation now expire 2 months earlier than they should. Hopefully SST can fix this.

Do you think F lounge will reopen by May 2021? Or July 2021?

For anyone that knows the answer:

Now that the SST has dissolved... Who looks after complimentary upgrades, special requests, reward seat requests etc

premium line was unhelpful and provided no insight when I tried to request an award seat

“platinum one team doesn’t exist anymore”

When did SST get dissolved, I was still able to contact them via email in early August.

SST are still in operation, although working from home at reduced capacity. They returned to the office briefly a while back but I presume the Victorian situation sent them home again.

They're based in Canberra
I know, but presumably the heightened risk sent them home again? Not sure. I know I called them one morning and they'd just moved back into the office. Next time, it was working from home again. I didn't enquire the reason, just assumed Covid as Victoria was in full swing and NSW was looking suspect.

It is more generous than I was expecting. However, if Australia continues to keep out non-Australians, it still could be very difficult to achieve for some of us. I don't particularly fancy having to do 45 JQ domestic (in NZ) max bundle flights in a few months to get the remaining 900 QF marketed SCs (plus of course whatever balance of the 1800 total SCs are needed).

I've just noticed (so either missed it before or it has been changed) that JQ flights don't count for the 2700 QF SCs for platinum one. So impossible to progress towards this other than by QF's generosity, until such time as non-Australians can enter Australia or QFi resumes flying. At least JQ flights count for the other 900 SCs required.

Interesting, I've just had a look and you're right that the 2,700 states that is has to be a qantas marketed flight and 'Qantas marketed flights are flights with a Qantas [QF] flight number on the ticket'.

The 2,700 status boost that I've received so far this year (1,800 plus 900 for Apr - Aug) have counted towards the QF requirement so now I only have to earn 900 more somehow....

That's interesting. Bit awkward at the moment as I'm having to fly JQ as there's no other way to get out of Tasmania without going through Melbourne.

@nutwood thanks for the response however my post was more directed at @travellerqff who made the statement that “platinum one team doesn’t exist anymore”. In re-reading my post I see it may have been misinterpreted. I was pretty confident that SST was still in existence as they seemed to assist in getting some refunds processed after waiting the 10 weeks and still no refund in sight.

I thought the 2700 SC requirement was always on QF flight numbers and nothing else? Meaning that JQ has never counted toward the 2700.
You might be getting the 4 ~ segment requirement mixed up..
