Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Interesting one today. On the Perth Sydney flight sitting in front row economy in 24G. After take off the CSM started the greetings in the left hand isle handing out J headphones to WP's and doing the greeting. S far so good. She came across to the left aisle did the same for the WP's in row 23 then went to the rows behind me, skipping me entirely. I'm not in the slightest bothered, but just found it strange that the P1 was ignored while the WP's were given the treatment (I saw bag tags hence knowing the level). Human error, or computer glitch? I don't know. Merely posting in support of the inconsistency theme that pervades this thread

Oh you didn't know? You've just experienced the new unpublished P1 benefit: From now on the crew will bother everyone else with pointless greetings and leave P1s in peace to enjoy the flight :p

I can't remember the last time I got or witnessed anyone else getting an onboard greeting (honestly thought this practice was discontinued) but anyway I always preferred those written messages on my BP, like this one from last week, which usually comes with a treat ;)

Exact scenario happened to me twice as well in a previous stint as P1 - others got the full treatment in Y, as P1 I was totally ignored. The lack of greeting neither here nor there to me (avoids embarrassment actually) but better headphones or a drink after take-off - that's when a tangible benefit is missed (if offered to others).

I had exactly same experience SYD-SIN earlier in the month. On Domestic, I have exp this on a few occassions...

It would seem there is a problem with the notification to the crew that a P1 should be given at minimum same recognition as a WP. I will provide this feedback to the P1 email team. Red Roo, may be worth doing too. This is so poor but must be a really easy fix.

This membership year I started doing stats on this actually, I have had 72 QF flights this membership year (4 months to go) So out of the 72 flights I have had 17 welcome on boards (although 13 of those flights were in J) So only 4 welcomes in whY!!!. One flight in J I specifically remember as the CSM knew one of the pax very well (i assume WP or WP1) anyways he was the only one she had the good old welcome speech to & completely ignored the fact that there was a P1 right next to him.

Maybe the CSM's think they are doing us a favour by not welcoming us much, as we may get it all the time & from feedback from other customers they might not want it.

Personally I love the greeting as its just about that loyalty factor & they want to keep us happy/informed about how the flight is going, or to get a drink & some nuts, etc. I get used to not expecting any welcomes on board now & just get straight into reading my book or watching content on my iPad.

I think the CSM's iPad's should be used more & to add personal details of the pax, like does the pax engage in conversation, or whats his/her favourite drink or newspaper, or does him/her have ice in their drink (which i do 100% of the time) Make it more personal to the pax, how good would it be if any high status pax got on board, sat down, got settled in & then arrived your favourite drink, nuts & newspaper without even saying a word.

Thats QF consistently inconsistent.

Although I am not a P1, I have found the odd occasion on an Intl flight where I didn't get a greeting (in the minority) I noticed the CSM didn't have an iPad only a paper manifest. I'd think its more of a case that they just missed you, however if they had an iPad they have no excuse to miss you as the seating layout is pictured.

As an example i've done about 8-10 QF intl flights in 12 months, only 2 of them I had no greeting at all with the paper manifest being the key thing I noticed in the CSM's hands no pax information iPad.

So I qualified P1 again a couple of weeks ago, with 4 months still remaining in my year -- after 1 year back as a WP. Expectations low given previous experience which was underwhelming but I won't repeat details. And now reminded of sometimes being missed as a top tier pax on board is worrying. Unfortunately a genuinely good benefit (partner platinum) is not relevant.

But hoping for a better and more consistent experience this time.

For reference, made P1 through (roughly):
- Some full fare J trips to Asia, middle east and Europe on QF and EK
- One return FASA to US
- about a dozen AA F flights in US
- several domestic e-deal Y flights on QF
- a few OW Y flights in Europe (minimal earn though)
- A dozen or so JASA domestic and trans-tasman segments.

Haven't done calculations but would probably have come close to P1 over full year without the ASAs (or close enough to do a run). None of the ASAs were status runs, though a few extra segments / connections were included for this purpose. I did prioritise QF and EK this year given P1 was likely.

A fair bit of travel in next 18 months, but what's booked so far (international) is largely on partner airlines (CX, AY, Iberia and BA) as QF fares not competitive. Haven't flown some of these at all or for many years so will be interesting to compare. Service always good on QF but needs to be exceptional (especially as P1, with some extra benefits) to keep interest and custom.

Nothing this morning, although I don't expect on a short intercity hop. I'll be interested to see what happens tonight on my Perth flight, as this is one where the little bit of extra attention and drink from the front makes a real difference.

Interested to read of a potential flaw in the systems telling the onboard crew who the P1's are. That may explain a lot. I am not really one for the welcomes, but in years past I did get the spiel more when I was vanilla WP and a lot less these past 2 years as WP1. It may explain that. Interesting. Not a big deal for mine but interesting.

I would note that when scanning BP's at the gate the FA manning the reader has at least read the PLAT part of the service information and made a appropriate comment like "Welcome back again" or "Glad to have you back with us" sort of thing. A few have recognised me (embarassing) and it's more personal (which is both nice yet a bit scary :))

I am 2 AA Y flights next week from a 3rd year of WP1.....

P1 has been useful when flying long haul Y. It is not so much the greeting but the offer of a decent glass of wine or two, from J, a cheese plate or the offer of J headphones or even pyjamas. The free exit row or extra legroom seats is the main tangible concrete benefit for me...........

....the problem is when there is no glass of wine or headset then I may as well pay the extra for SQ Y extra legroom seats, which all up is less than or equal too the price I typically pay for QF, and enjoy what is, quite frankly, a superior Y product.

My re-qualification date is the end of July and this year I will hit 3600 SC''s exactly. Based on the level of service I received on QF129 yesterday I wont be rushing to book with QF in the future.

The other problem QF has and Trippin_the_Rift has mentioned it a bit here is that QF has no real way of tracking intent or actual actions of FF's looking to move elsewhere. Since the end of December I have accumulated 2290 TP's with BA and will hit GGL in October - unless things go horribly wrong!! When I drop of the P1 perch in August 2016 I suspect QF will not even notice.

It is sad really, because on their Day the QF crews can be up there with the best of them, but simpler and fairer coupled with inconsistent service when good service is most needed by me, is driving me away from QF. (I am an odd case because I'm non too concerned about the service levels I receive in J or F...but man alive I do like decent service on the occasions I am in Y.)

...as for BA their service has been, not unexpectedly, dire so far but the tangible benefits of GGL+ make it worthwhile for the travel patterns I have.

Having said all of that I will miss many aspects of QF as simpler and fairer impacts my travel completely. :(

Random question that occurred to me when travelling in Y on the tram this morning....

If one was P1, then earned 0 SC's the next year, would they have a soft landing to WP,or to SG? I am presuming/guessing WP, but I just wondered if anyone knew? (I know what JohnK's answer will be : "It doesn't matter, WP and SG are merging" :D )

Well, it was another ignore last night BNE to Perth. No CSM greeting, no headphones, no offer of a glass from up front. On the positive side, I did have 23b with 23a blocked out so all the legroom and space I could ask for.

My observation so far is that QF tend to spoil WP/P1s more on international flights which doesn't make much sense as champagne from J Int cost more then wine from J Dom.

I found it interesting most pax prefer 23B for the legroom and avoid 23A. I always select 23A so can stretch my legs on the door bench (it's allowed, I asked ;) ), feels more comfortable then old config A330 J seats!

I'm just an aisle junkie....I hate the feeling of disturbing somebody if I have to get up

Canny man - did you notice if others in Y got any special treatment?

Nobody got any special treatment on this one. The only acknowledgement was that I was addressed by my name when asked what dinner option I'd like.

Have come across one CSM when flying in J domestic recently who was adamant that neither WP or WP1's warranted any special treatment and or drinks etc from J as they had not paid for it and this would devalue the J cabin if he were to do it.

So stump up for J or stay in Y and get the same as everyone else was the basic belief.
