Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Phew, that was close!!! Just made the magic 3600 with 7 days to go!!! It's been a lot harder with the new rules and cut backs on business class on the East Coast-West Coast routes so I just scraped through rather than blitzing it in previous years. I've been a P1 since its inception and I would have certainly been booking a status run this weekend if I hadn't quite made the grade. For all the critique that sometimes appears on this forum I appreciate the service that the P1 team gives and wouldn't have been happy maintaining the amount of flying I do without the nice touches that come with P1

That's excellent news. 5 years at P1, wicked.

SST are great. It's good to know you have them there when you need them. Love the surprise calls offering something (few and far between though)

Am going to hit them up next month for Taylor Swift tickets for my wife and I ðŸ

So... this means you call and ask for tickets? have you done this before and if so have you had success?

more general question - how many or you do call and ASK for goodies? (I'm curious rather than trying to imply anything).

me.. I don't ask for anything. if an offer comes, great.. if not well...

I had thought about things that QF sponsor eg the Cricket or Grand Prix and wondered well surely they would have access to tickets and stuff to offer whereas things they aren't associated with (eg AFL) then probably not.

Oh yeah, if you don't ask, you don't know

Have asked for tickets for baseball game last year (MLB game in Sydney) got that as I went on someone's list and was very great ful. Have only asked once for tickets.

I have called up for simulator (1 out of 2 but that was to do with my availability) have called up for special messages on boarding passes, upgrades to be confirmed early (domesti

ah yes, I called for a special message on BP... told no problem and a pleasure.. and it never happened sadly. no biggie. that my sister got upgraded on QF93 was totally worth it (I didn't ask P1 for any assistance with that but did mention I had a request in for that as part of the message conversation).

P1 from day 1 and so far received only two invitations to events (not include corporate events). Never asked for any invitations although living in MEL most of that time where there is something going on almost every week... This is definitely one of the most disappointing aspects of P1 and before people here start with all kinds of made up conspiracy theories of different levels of P1, I know people with more then double yearly SCs earn that also didn't get much from P1.

I've written this before, and I'll write it again (cuz I am Mr Verbose!)

to me these "intangible" P1 benefits, like event invites, or the books or bottle of wine etc to me are all "extras" - I mean I don't fly all that I do to reach P1 to get a ticket to the cricket or a box of books. I do expect the published benefits of the status such as upgrade priority and that I'll be treated hopefully well during irops, but other than that I see the rest of it as a bonus. Nice? absolutely! Required? no.

Fortunately I've never been in a QF pickle where being P1 would have been helpful and in bunches of flights I consider this a great thing that QF has, for me, been very reliable, on time, etc so I haven't *needed* any special treatment.

Now things going a bit wrong, like my request for a BP message for my sister.. well that's a bit annoying, but hardly end of the world stuff... and while it might be fun to get an offer to see a Big Bash game or something, I can live without. My hints for a case of LGD somehow seem to have gone overlooked too :D

I certainly have no issue with the idea of "if you never never go, you'll never ever know" (ie: asking for stuff) - it's just something I'd never really considered.

hey one of you could have my simulator offer if they are transferrable lol.

I was offered when I first got to P1 a few years back.. but as fun as it might be it would be totally wasted on me due to my poor eyesight and co-ordination. Sometimes it's hard to find my champagne glass (that may be after several refills :))

but I digress.

1 invite in Dec 13. Nothing since. Don't feel right in asking.

Separate but related question is the simulator one per year or one per member?

I have done the B747 sim in one of my memberships years, the next membership year I asked if i could do the B737 sim, they mentioned I have already done the B747 sim, but didn't indicate that i couldn't do the B737 sim because I have done the B747 sim, I never ended up doing the B737 sim, but certainly will when I can get time over east, i guess my point is, there was no reason to even mention I have did the sim before.

So since then, I haven't bothered asking, but haven't had a suitable time to do the sim again anyways.

As I went to check in for my flight tomorrow there was a glitch in OLC. A little part of me wondered if perhaps there was a complementary upgrade in the offing. After all it's not as if someone re-qualifies for a 5th year at P1 every day.

No, quite the contrary, once I manage to get to check in for my coast to coast, I find that I've been bumped from 23b to row 44. 23b still shows in seat selection but OLC has me pushed toward the back.

Thankfully, after two conversations with P1, I'm back in the front row of economy.

In QF's defence, apparently there has been a plane change and as 23 is an exit row in the original plane, the system decided to swap to another exit seat further back.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding precious, but getting the front row seat is one of the perks I value the most at P1 and this is not the first time a plane change has stuffed up seat selection.

Not precious at all! Front row seats is one of the rare (published) P1 perks we can constantly enjoy on Dom flights.

Agree. not precious at all. Also the logic escapes me - why would "the system" swap you from an exit row to another exit row but further back? I could almost understand the logic about exit rows and needing to meet the ability to perform the functions in an exit row (blah blah) and all that, but to put you from one to another, and leave the first one vacant? huh?

glad you got your seat back and hoping you got a bump up on the flight anyway!

Thanks. I didn't get the bump although I was put in 24d with a shadow next so the outcome was fine. What intrigued me was that the person that ended up blocking me from my original selection of 23b was a young guy who looked around 17. Now, I know you can't make a judgement on appearance, but he didn't look or act like he would be a regular FF with status.

Perhaps he was the first born of a CL, and nominated as their significant other... :D

I am only a lowly [-]Platinum[/-].... err.... Gold and I expect to get the front row of economy every time. Have decent success rate too but I am relatively quick off the mark at T-80 hours.

P1 flight monitoring was in action on Sunday. I was scheduled on the 1250 from Sydney to Perth. At around 1200 an announcement came over the loudspeaker to the effect that there would be a delay and that the engineers were on board checking things out. Within seconds my phone rang and it was Romy from P1. She advised that the problem wasn't likely to get fixed anytime soon and asked if I'd like to move to a later flight. Of course I would. The next flight was a 737 and the choice of seating wasn't great. Romy asked if I would leave it with her. She called back within 5 minutes and had secured me a seat on the 3pm flight...with an upgrade. It still got me into Perth on time to watch the RWC, so I was happy. Great pro-active service. Makes me glad I've just secured another year at P1. Thanks Romy and P1

This is great service! may I just say it never happened to me in my two years as above pond-scum level. (P1)

Got a nice invite to Qantas's 95th Birthday party black tie gala dinner in a hangar at SYD Jetbase in November.

The invite arrived the day after I requalified for P1 for the 3rd year.

Thanks P1, have to do some serious rescheduling with the good wife to be able to make it. :) fingers crossed!
