Qantas Points Club Discussion

So I have a question. I have reached points club plus. They have said they will pause my current Qantas club membership- but I don’t have current membership. And I got nothing else to confirm Qantas club membership. Anyone else had this experience???

I had thought that complimentary Qantas Club memberships (i.e. those given to Points Club Plus members) were not being extended automatically? This was specifically excluded in the recent announcement.

This doesn't sound good... Mrs Rusty just ordered some wine to reach points club plus. Valid until 31st October 2021. With these recent announcements does this mean Qantas Club won't be added to her account?

Cheers

My interpretation is that you will receive Qantas Club membership upon reaching Points Plus (unless you are WP or P1), but it will not be extended as bought ones are. So QC membership expires at your anniversary.

Don't worry, she'll still get the complimentary Qantas Club membership! The only thing is that the Qantas Club membership will only be valid as long as she's a Points Club Plus member, rather than being extended for another six months after she loses Points Club Plus.

I was perhaps a bit clumsy in my wording.

🧐

There wasn't any announcement that Points Club Plus members won't get a digital Qantas Club membership, she'll still get it..... although Mrs Rusty probably won't get much use out of hers unless borders open.:(

The announcement from Qantas related to fully paid-up members of the Qantas Club. It was extending the validity of their paid membership as those members have limited access to lounges at the moment.

See Qantas' explanation, which to be honest is fairly clear for once 🤣:

So I don’t currently have qantas club membership but it seemed to imply I won’t be getting it either. Perhaps because they thought I had a Qantas club membership???
It has been only 2 weeks so I was just waiting in case the situation resolved itself... and the trip in a week is cancelled due to border closures so no rush to sort it out now!

Pausing QC membership may have been a generic email to anyone gaining QC membership with Points Plus. Have you looked at your digital card to see if you now have QC membership attached?

It just updated to include it today. So maybe just a lag in updating the digital card and a generic email . Thanks for that!

Hi folks - after your view on something... I purchased a new Dell laptop in late August on my MC, and there were two sets of bonus points that applied... a 6,000 QFF point bonus from MC for ordering a Dell, and the other was a double points QF Shopping referral for buying Dell (circa 8,000 QFF points). I also got the usual 1:1 points on my HSBC Premier card when it swept. All in it was about 20,000 QFF points for buying the laptop.

Where I need an opinion - that first MC bonus of 6,000 points credited early September, but didn't go to Points Club total (anniversary was August, so September is my month 1). The QF Shopping bonus is yet to be applied - that could apparently be up to 90 days after.

My Points Club tally is 11,004, from the top 3 rows below. I believe all of these card points and bonuses are eligible... so should the 6,000 QFF points not have been applied to Points Club, or does the transaction date of the purchase come into play in some way here?

This is consistent with what I've seen from my Points Club tally so far this year.

In the same way that points/SC earned from a flight on 30 Aug may not credit until early Sep but are backdated to Aug, Points Club also appears to run on transaction dates. This is obviously detrimental in your case, but can equally be advantageous at the end of a membership year if someone is trying to earn some last minute points to hit PC/PC+.

It's also described in the T&Cs section 22.3:

"In calculating whether a Member has qualified for the Points Club Program in a Membership Year, Qantas will count Qantas Points from the applicable Accrual Date. Some Qantas Points can take up to 90 days to appear on your Qantas Frequent Flyer Activity Statement.
"

with accrual defined here. Frequent Flyer Terms and Conditions | Qantas

Ugh... that sucks... I was hoping I'd get the 16K or so from the purchase in the current year, as I'd already made PC in the last, but am expecting less spend/travel in the current (for obvious reasons). Thanks for the detail though - and here's the specific item that kicks me in the guts:

(c) a Qantas Shopping Retail Partner, the date that the goods or services were purchased from that partner;

Cheers,
Matt.

If only you’d waited two more days to purchase.

The ever-present issue! Lose a sale price and gain the points to the tally, or v.v.!? I'll make it up somehow if push comes to shove and still see some value in PC :)

QF survey out today considering additional milestone benefits for PC and PCP. The 50 SC for PC looks good to me otherwise the rest is pretty meh...

The only appealing benefits for me are QC access for PCP and the SC rollover. That said, with no travel likely in the near future, and being in between AMEX signup periods, I anticipate I will be unlikely to retain PCP and will have used the QC access a grand total of 0 times before the benefit expires.
