Agree, so back to the topic we go.
I have been curious about whether QF awards issued by partners receive status credits for Points Club members as I have been hoping to rely on an Alaska award to receive status credits as part of my Fast Track status match for Qantas. (That's because Alaska will charge me just 20,000 miles for BNE-SYD-CNS-MEL-CBR in business whereas QF charges 57,000 for the same itinerary.)
There has been some uncertainty around this point, but after researching this further and seeing various data points from others, I suggested last week that when the partner issues an award ticket on QF metal with a QF flight number and QF fare code, it seems more likely that you'll get the status credits even though you didn't book the award with Qantas Points. Today I also noticed something on my QFF account today from a previous Alaska award on QF-metal:
This award appeared in my QFF account as a "Classic Flight Reward" despite being booked via Alaska points and despite the term "Classic Flight Reward" being defined by Qantas only as a ticket "obtained with Qantas Points", so it appears to support the reasoning above.
It's a bit of a gamble as I'll be using those 20K Alaska points to travel on the above itinerary solely for the status credits, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I'll report back in April when the trip is done.
