Those SC are still gained from flying.

Yes, every SC is a degree of separation from a flight. The ANZ CC SC bonus requires you to fly, as does a loyalty bonus or DSC, and ultimately the rollover SCs too. I can have a 150 SC balance in a membership year but not have taken a single flight, but those SCs are undoubtedly from flying activity in their original incarnation.

That said this is a pretty limited program. It's simply not accessible to your average worker given the $s involved.

Just to confirm, do bonus points from CC sign ups contribute to points club or do they have to be earned through spend?

Yes, CC sign up bonuses are included in eligibility for the club. I earn 90% of my points on the ground through bonuses.

I don't think the program is limiting at all. It's opening up status and other perks to people who would normally have to fly much more frequently to achieve them.

There are plenty of credit cards available with decent sign up bonuses that the "average worker" can utilise. The CC hustle isn't that much of a dark art, so I think this is good news for many.

Earning status credits on award bookings alone is an attractive prospect. Think about a QFF Gold status run that you can achieve for only a few hundred dollars in taxes.

Biz rewards points dont get counted towards this, so if you have the Amex Qantas Biz card... its no good

you need a personal card used for Biz to get the points to count
Nothing stopping a business owner from charging their corporate spend to a personal credit card though (subject to their card's limits, of course).

Assuming you are first eligible for the program, then yes.

I wanted to go back to the other thread where I said "surely they won't launch amidst the current environment" to eat my hat. But i'll have to do it here. :)

My membership year rolled over recently. Based on last year I would be "Points Club" but at present it shows I need another 140k to qualify.

This leads me to wonder: does it reset each anniversary and do you have to requalify each year?

May have to retime my CC earn and burn strategy.
Absolutely will cause some careful thinking, especially when you consider amex referrals, including the 60k promo going on at the moment.

My points earned on the ground = 600k. Earned in the air = 0. 😆
0.45% of my points this membership year earned in the air so far. XD

Understand importance of non flight related revenue for QF, (particularly when noones flying) but agree this is next to useless to people who don't play the CC shuffle game or cant divert all their personal/corporate spend through point earning CCs and rather spend their time actually flying. Just to confirm, do bonus points from CC sign ups contribute to points club or do they have to be earned through spend?
Woolworths and other promotions (health insurance, Australian Super, etc) will be important to consider also

Yes up to a limit of 125k points per "partner" per day
Emphasis: per day, while lots of the material says 'per transaction'.
I've been restricted by this limit already, as amex sweep bonus points to your account on the same day that they sweep your normal transactions.

My SC balance has just jumped by about 500 SC, with all award flights taken since 06SEP19 having now accrued Points Club SC...
I think the poster was referring to the fact that Qantas appear to have gone back through your current membership year and figured out at what point you became eligible for Points Club, then credited SC for any Classic Reward Flights you took after that point. Essentially backdating any SC earn from this method...
I went through and analysed mine; as I had an award flight early in my new membership year that didn't grant SCs. I hadn't hit 150k yet so I didn't qualify and it didn't count. Technically i would have qualified based on last year's points earn, but they haven't applied it to me.

All in all, I consider myself pretty lucky that my reset was in September. Gives me time to hopefully hit plus this year.

Ahh as Max would say...missed it by thaaaat much!..OK so how about... someone could effectively reach WP without ever having to purchase an airfare..?😉
Considering the size of fuel surcharges on international bookings, it may be cheaper, but not without foregoing some cash!

Can't wait to see the tables we'll come up with.

Would you like a referral?
To what?

I use a NAB Platinum CC that is fee-free thanks to my (currently worthless) NAB shares, but it's my secondary card to the AMEX Plat Charge, where I'm currently stockpiling points and this is not direct sweep. While it would be tempting to waste my points by sending them to QF every few days at no more than 250,000 MR = 125,000 QFF to keep Points Club (every year, or achieve Plus) I'm not sure there's enough value yet.

If other ways of making up the 105,000 points appear that aren't a CC (assuming maximum 20,000 points earned from flying first) then I would probably consider them rather than sacrificing my valuable earn rate with AMEX to a VISA/MC or my MR points.Going to be some good deals for those points in the coming year/next year.

Do you know if you had 125k points from Westpac, Bank of Melbourne and St George it would be 125k or 375k.

I'm assuming it's 125k considering everything else but would be good to have some clarification.

So effectively they are giving more benefits to non-status fliers than those that have status. Surely they could replace the (very valuable) Qantas Club benefit with something else for Gold and higher members? Points, SCs, upgrades, anything! Or at the very least make the membership transferable so you can gift it to a family member.

It's per transaction, so as long as your 125k points are all on separate cards (therefore, separate transactions) you would earn 375k towards your membership.

On the other hand if, for example, you had one single 375k point earning event, then only 125k of those points would count towards your club membership.

Just posted this in the other thread as well. Interesting that for travel in J, the SC earn rate is better for shorter flights, eg:
MEL-SYD: 1 SC per 1,150 points
MEL-PER: 1 SC per 1,297 points
MEL-SIN: 1 SC per 1,425 points
MEL-LAX: 1 SC per 1,506 points.

Good incentive to use points to fly domestic J more.

The SC earn rates are a bit better in economy, esp. on longer flights. PE is much worse.

Do these banks all transfer from the same place? If it was on seperate days i'd think you would be safe. If it was the same label on your QFF account, on the same day, it might hit the cap. But we won't know until we test.

I qualified as Points Plus. As I am already LTG I would actually prefer to be at base level, then I would get 2 lounge invitations which I could gift to other people. I will get little to no benefit from the other stuff. Things get weird sometimes but such is life!
I just read a David Flynn article and he says:
"Points Club and Points Club Plus members who have also attained Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold or higher status won't receive the free lounge passes or Qantas Club membership, as they already enjoy lounge access by virtue of their status. "

So I wouldn't get the lounge invitations if I was a lowly Points Club member after all.

This whole points club just adds to an already convoluted FF scheme. I think they just get to the point where it becomes so complicated that people land up disengaging.

I do see that as a very real problem. Now you have to monitor your points, points club points and status credits. People already get confused about points vs status credits.

Personally pretty happy with this new program.

I found myself in points club and status credits retrospectively assigned for award travel back in January - very happy with that outcome :)

The benefits may not be amazing but i don’t plan on changing my existing habits and therefore will leverage the new points club benefits where possible without any additional effort.

That takes away one of the main perks being marketed by Qantas for the Points Club.

Rather than removing benefits for status pax, I wish Qantas would allow you to "gift" Club membership to another member a la P1 status gifting.

Otherwise its a big jump in entry requirement from Club to Plus without much of a payoff in terms of benefits in my opinion.

Need another 110,000 points to make Points Plus Club, have until 30 June, I don't think I will make it, unless some REALLY good points for wine comes thru.
Happy with the benefits of being in Points Club, which will hold until June 2021.
Still waiting for the lounge passes to show in account.
