Qantas Points Club Discussion

Will probably need to 'up' the churn to 3 credit cards a year to hit +. Is it worth it? $600ish for additional credit card annual fees versus about the same to maintain Qantas Club annual fee. I spose I'd have all those extra bonus points, but might run out of eligibility (12-18months/card) too quick, not to mention the hit to my credit rating.

IMO it would be worthwhile if you already pay for Qantas Club. You get a bonus 200k points to fly around with, now earning SC as well. Obviously this is dependant on your personal situation and credit score, but 3 CC sign-ups per year is pretty sustainable if you space them out and are diligent in closing them and tracking exclusion periods.

Depends on the cards you sign up for, I guess. There are usually discounted annual fee promos that can be better PPD value. Even $0 annual fee introductory offers are still around, albeit rarer nowadays. I reckon you could get there for circa $300-400 with the right set of cards/promos.

So I'm about 7k points short of 350k points for the year which expires on 30th April. Most of those 7k will come in the next credit card sweep on around 20th April. Going by 2infinity's post above, does that mean I will only enjoy 10 days of that Points plus benefit (i.e 10 days of QFF membership or is it a yearly membership) and some of the other perks.

Also, if booking Classic Rewards that now on SC, I assume they qualify for Eligible Sectors (i.e the requirement to have 4). I was looking at using a Jestar Bundle Max for this on another thread. I need 20 SC and 2 Eligible sectors. I'd have to do 3 short fares (7SC each) rather than 2.

I think the information on the Qantas website saying how long you'll enjoy the benefits is conflicting.

From Website: "You can enjoy your membership benefits from the moment you unlock Points Club, until the end of your next Membership Year."
...
Then the website gives an example: "So, for example, if your Membership Year begins on 1 January 2020 and ends 31 December 2020, and you unlock Points Club or Points Club Plus in June 2020, you can enjoy your membership benefits until 31 December 2021."
I don't think this is conflicting - the use of the word 'next' (my emphasis above) is key.

It carries into the next year, the same way status does.

Right you are Sudoer. Website shows the confirmation for the full next year, but not sure where on the app is is shown. Qantus Club membership for example, not that it is of any value right now.. :)

I qualified for Points Club membership and checked to see if I had two complimentary lounge invitations, but the only two I found were those I already had from my AMEX card plus Qantas spending, due to expire in August! WT...?

Aud$150,000 to spend on, in a year, is a lot of money.
Very steep.
With or without flying, that is a "fair su** of the sauce bottle".
Very picky on QF, for them to only set such a high "goal".
Even when I used to fly QF a lot to maintain QF SG over 3.5 years, I didn't spend that much.
Imagine an annual income to spend $150,000 a year, would need to earn at least Aud$250,000 less tax, Medicare levey, etc, to make a net income to spend of $150,000.
When they announced it, I though it might need spending of much, much less.
Anyway, luck to those of you who do make the cut.

You don't need to spend that much money to earn 150k points from non-flying activities flying. Think credit card sign-up bonus, bonus points on QF wine etc.

Realistically, you would have to maximise bonus points promotions as well as credit card sign-up bonuses to gain membership. I'd wager that this is how most of us have already managed to qualify for either tier.

I'll be Points Club Plus when this month's points sweep happens, and I've spent less than $20k on cards in the last year. Maybe worth reading the T&C and thinking about how to creatively play the game.

I am in a low skilled job.
Too old to up skill.
No rich partner capable either
No credit cards ta.
But kudos to others who make the "cut".

Anybody have any experience or idea how the lounge staff identify a Points Plus member as eligible for QC access if they're only silver or bronze? Something on a boarding pass perhaps?

I expect like other status' it will be printed on the boarding pass (paper and electronic)

You need to download the Qantas app.

I'm only a Bronze but now have QC membership as a Points Plus member and it shows up in the app.

Stupid question but where in the app? I'm on Android and the app appears up to date. Haven't noticed any changes and don't see where it's showing. Going to My QFF just shows the usual silver/points activity.

I can see it now too. Do the Admirals Club accept the digital card I wonder?

It should show if you have QC membership here.
