Qantas Points Club Discussion

Is this a recent enhancement? I don't recall it, as I'd recently built myself a spreadsheet to plan and track sc earn for my upcoming reward flights

Yes, a new addition to the bookings page. Visible on the website for me. Even recognises PC vs PCP status.

It existed previously, then they removed it - but I also noticed it came back this week.

I've always thought Points Club Plus is hard to reach for an average person like me so I thought I'd share how I reached it for the first and probably only time. It took 11 months, 98 Red Planet surveys, 6 flights, 3 new credit cards, 1 new Optus plan, 1 Superhero account and 1 wine purchase.

I didn’t think Red Planet points counted as they are not “purchases”?

What's always struck me as funny about PCP is that it appears to be a status level for credit card churners as I'd say that's the only way most people reach it. I would think the number of people putting huge business expenses through a Qantas-earning card rather than say a flexible points currency must be quite small.

I reached PC+ mainly through paying for holidays and flights by credit card, all private. Now those trips are paid up, I doubt I will be PC+ again. PC should be attainable with normal credit card spend. I certainly don't churn credit cards.

I think Qantas would have a good stranglehold of the small medium business owner type market, but would be trying to push this towards business rewards program cards as it seems most personal CCS are trending towards spending caps and specific exclusion of business expenses.

You are not average. That is a lot of effort.

Also, I'm looking to purchase a laptop - most likely a microsoft surface. How can I maximise earning qantas points for this purchase ? Still looking for ways to earn points for PC.

Was thinking giftcard purchase and everyday rewards ?
Or buy via microsoft store seems to earn 3 points per dollar.

Advice ?

Does green tier 10k points count for PC ?
Good question. I can’t see any specific exclusion in the T&Cs for either Points Club or Green Tier. That being said, I’m sure someone on here as been there, done that and ticked it off to provide a definitive answer.

Probably depends how much time and inclination you have, but assuming you need to buy via MS Store, what immediately comes to mind is…
  1. Wait for a 20x EDR deal on Ultimate Gift Cards that include JB HiFi.
  2. Purchase said gift cards using a points earning credit card
  3. Spend said gift cards at JB to purchase Microsoft Gift Cards.
  4. Load them into your MS account and purchase your laptop.
You’d have to calculate the points earn compared to getting 3x points via Qantas Mall to see which option was better value.

Points Club Plus journey - August 2022-May 2023, main point earns:
  • Cards and banking 140,000
    • Mainly Amex Ultimate, 1x additional card added, Sniip where appropriate
    • One sign-up bonus 40k
    • Superhero 16K
  • Everyday Rewards 80,000
    • General WW spend
    • Limited Gift Card purchases <20k
    • Bupa sign up bonus 30k
  • Optus Promotions 70,000
  • Red Energy 16,000
  • Qantas Wine 14,000
  • Qantas hotels 8,500
  • Qantas shopping/Marketplace 6,000
  • Domestic flights 4,000
  • Qantas Wellbeing app 2,000
The rest is mainly from uber, BP, Binge, QF travel insurance, and others. I started the year with Points Club and associated vouchers.

Is it worth it?
Well, the accumulation of points was the main goal, and will go towards international J/F travel next membership year, and any extra or unusual spend (like Superhero and Optus in my case) balances out against this in my opinion.

The additional wine/hotel vouchers will come in handy and should make it easy to retain PC next membership year. The QP benefit will be helpful for domestic travel when in economy until I make QFF Gold in 2024 (Currently Bronze, anticipating silver by June) and helped along by the PCP SC rollover, Green tier SC's, and SC earn on reward flights over the next year.

As such, I won't push for PCP in 2024 - limited value as QF Gold - but will monitor bonuses and might just luck into it again.

I'm sure some of the folks here have been thru this - one of the $50 QF Hotel vouchers I received as part of my PC+ qualification doesn't seem to work. The voucher is valid till 31MAY23 ... I'm currently on the phone with QF, hoping to talk to someone re this. In the meantime, those that have faced this issue before - what was the resolution offered - replacement voucher?

Also, am I barking at the wrong tree by calling 13 12 11 ? QF WP here. Or should I be calling the QF Hotels 1300 738 206 number?

Search your inbox for the voucher code - if you've already used it, it'll show up on the tax invoice emailed to you.

Annoyingly, used vouchers don't automatically disappear from the Points Club page.

Edit: I've been caught out on this twice...
