Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

And yet economy passengers are the ones likely to suffer the most on long flights. Stretch zone is only useful if you go and spend the entire flight there and not in an uncomfortable seat.

I know most people may not care but would love to know which warped mind thinks it's OK to have seats already reclined. They've done this on some coaches and it's awful. I've got back issues and need to be upright for longs periods of time.

It's already difficult trying avoid the A350 but if every airline orders this aircraft then it's going to make flying difficult. LCCs are not suited to long hauls and 6 hours in A320s is not the answer either.
Just like there are lots of different business and first class seats out there, the same applies to economy. There isn’t a ‘single’ economy seat that must be installed on the a350. It will really come down to which seat QF wants to install.

Thai’s a350s don’t come with the pre-reclined seats in coach for example. So it’s just going to be a matter of finding the airline that suits your needs.

In the pictures you posted, the economy seats on SQ have been reclined for the purposes of the photo. You can see the seat in front is upright… and the extension of the metal bar supporting the seat at the rear of the armrest is fully extended in one set of seats, and is not on the other.

Seats will not be reclined for the whole flight, they will have to be upright for Take off , Landing and during meal services. Nothing to suggest the Y seats will be any worse than current Y seats; in fact supposed to be slightly wider and have more leg room. Also nothing to suggest they do not return to a fully upright position.

Ive done QF SYD-DFW/DFW-SYD in Y multiple times and also LHR-PER in Y, its perfectly manageable if you go in with the right mindset. Once you're at 18hrs, another 2 is neither here nor there imo. Of course I prefer J.

If you dont fly the routes planned for this aircraft or fly Y, why worry about what others choose to? Research must show a market for the ULH Y and W seats, otherwise it will be an all F/J service like some of the JAL ULH ones are.

I think JohnK was concerned about his experience on an a350 were seats might come slightly ‘pre-reclined’, even for takeoff and landing. It’s a marginal recline designed for comfort, but complied with safety requirements. For LCCs the seats may not be able to be reclined any more past this position. On full service carriers you can usually recline a bit more.

As much at the QF haters would argue otherwise QF is not a LCC (and even Jetstar seats can be fully upright whole flight if that is your preference). And the ULH routes will certainly not be low cost by any means, they will be at a premium over the slower indirect route via SIN/LAX/DFW.

@JohnK
Are u sure that not just positioning of seatbacks for the photo?
I'm certain.

@MEL_Traveller the SQ A350 seats are not just pre-reclined a little bit. It's quite noticeable and it's worse they can recline further. When seat in front is fully reclined I cannot sit upright at all. Can't fill out forms. Can't rest tablet. Can't really do much of anything.

My wife found them uncomfortable too and she is shorter and almost a third of my weight.

I think the focus group got that one totally wrong.

And yes I do realise I need to find an airline without these gimmicky seats but it's not easy when they're all going that way. I have QF Platinum/Lifetime Gold and Virgin Gold and don't want to be forced into travelling LCC long haul for the 3 of us. It's OK alone but not the family.

You don't realise how great we had it with the 747 or A380 economy product.

You’ll see from the second or third picture in this article: Singapore Airlines A350 & 787 Economy Class overview that the seats are only slightly ‘pre-reclined’.The picture I’m referring to shows the rear bulkhead seats, with a comparison between upright and reclined. The full recline is stated as 6 inches. I’m not sure there are any ‘bolt upright’ seats out there?

True ‘pre-reclined’ seats can’t be moved at all. But there are sort of hybrid ones that comes with a slight angle, and can be further reclined.

Not sure how wine choice has any impact on seat design. Having flown some genuine LCC like Southwest the QF seats are much better.

Anyway the usual haters gonna hate, even though none of you have experienced the QF A350 because it doesn't exist yet.

And the Qantas aficionados are enthusiastically promoting this because … it doesn’t exist yet? But what does exist in the airline is a long history of over promise and under delivery.

But good luck to Qantas and their loyal customers. I’m sure they’ll love their Neil Perry leaves on ULH.

And the Qantas luvvies are gushing because

I'm not seeing any gushing on this thread.

What I am seeing is the baseless claim that the seats in Y are in a permanent recline even though nothing to suggest that from Qantas (only that genuine LCCs chose to do that in their short-range variant that flies to asia), and retorts about wine and catering again nothing to do with the hard product which is all that has been announced so far.

Im sure just like when the Dreamliners were introduced QF will train pilots on domestic routes, and so I hope to be able to check the hard product out in person on one of those. I flew Dreamliner about 8 times SYD-MEL or MEL/SYD whilst they were training scoring W upgrades from a Y. It helped me decide that purchasing a W fare or using points to upgrade to W on Dreamliner is not worth it for me.

I think I've been on SQ A350 economy 3 times in the past 6 months. The last flight with wife/daughter was the worst. I've avoided the A350 out of SYD next month as we're on Scoot but coming back on A350 to BNE on return. I'm panicking thinking about it.

I was researching September trip and noticed SQ have put the A350 out of SYD too. Cr@p. We've scrapped September trip and planning Christmas trip and I will avoid SQ as I don't need this stress.

By the way I used to stress the same way about QF A330 when compared to 747 and A380 but QF A330 is streets ahead of SQ A350.

good source of magnesium

Daily recommendation of Mg = 400mg

100mg lettuce maybe 15mg

Would need to eat 2.6kg of lettuce to get daily Mg o_O (if that's only source of Mg). Better to eat dark chocolate, avocados and nuts and avoid alcohol.

How many leaves does one get at FLounge. Maybe 10 leaves?. Maybe 10g? Are Neil's leaves enhanced?. Is that why it is doled out sparingly?

Mg and jet lag?. Dunno about that. What's worse. Overdose lettuce and not eating other foods or jet lag
